Adam 12 and the cars of the day

Been watching a fairly new channel called MeTV. They show old tv shows from back in the day. Been watching Adam 12 and have really enjoyed seeing the various cars on the road as the guys do their patrols on the streets of LA. Lots of GTOs, Catalinas, Firebirds, Camaros and of course all of the other brands during that 68 to 73 era. I find myself paying a whole lot more attention to the traffic than the plot!

arbys 09-27-2013 12:19 PM

We have a similar TV station called Antenna TV. It carried the Adam 12 for about 6 months plus Dragnet and a lot of the stations that you would have viewed on your "antenna" TV.

68gtoMN 09-27-2013 12:21 PM

Hulu does the same. Yes, amazing cars. There are even some stories in car mags about this and some of the cars that were seen in scenes. There was a thread or two here regarding the Two Lane Blacktop GTO (Judge) and this discussion might have been part of that too....

Alvin 09-27-2013 12:41 PM

We stream all of these via Netflix. Enjoy these shows like: Streets of San Francisco, Kojack, Dragnet, Rockford Files, etc. for scanning the cars on the background.

Great stuff!

Hulu also has The Rockford Files, Magnum P.I. and a number of other shows that are fun to watch. They even have Highway Patrol, where you can get your 1950s cars fix. :)

PONTIAC LARRY 09-27-2013 01:48 PM

I caught an awesome episode of Adam 12 on Antennae TV and it was about illegal street drag racing and they got them to race at the track instead and the cops had drags cars too and they all raced! Lots of awesome muscle in this best car guy episode I have seen yet !

MikeNoun 09-27-2013 01:53 PM

These originate in Chicago. We have MeTv, MeTOO, THIS, Antenna, HUB, and others that are all free. They even come in crystal clear with....eegads....an antenna!

They've been showing classics like The Honeymooners, Dick Van Dyke, Andy Griffith, Gilligan, Get Smart, Hawaii Five-O, Rockford Files, All In The Family, MTM, etc. for years now. Unfortunately, they chop up the episodes to get more commercials in, but still cool to watch anyway.

And some more rarely seen ones, like Kojak, Rhoda, The Flying Nun, Night Gallery, Adam-12, Barnaby Jones, etc.

The days before a glorified talent shows featuring karaoke took over the tube, back before people became obsessed with reality shows, back in the days when families used to watch TV together.

You mean back in the days when TV was worth watching and didn't give people the idea to go out and shoot or blow up things. ;)

stevep 09-27-2013 08:06 PM

I love watching Highway Patrol.

limejudge69 09-27-2013 08:32 PM

Along the same lines I have been watching RFDtv with my daughters. We have had so much fun watching Mr Magoo, Fat Albert, Waldo Kitty, Hercules, Roger Ramjet and Skippy the bush kangaroo. The best part is they have no commercials!
I also enjoy 60-70's programming to see all the old cars.

I saw that one very good, Reed was driveing a 66 or 67 GTO Thay were raceing at a track called brandson in ca, The GTO was raceing a old 64 dodge IIRC. Was there a track in ca named brandson?

70RAFormula 09-28-2013 10:32 AM

I love Adam-12. On one episode Reed and Malloy were on a call and parked on the street. Behind them was the big Pontiac Indian dealership sign, and across the street in the background was a line of half a dozen brand new 1971 Firebirds! Thanks Me-TV!

geeteeohguy 09-28-2013 10:49 AM

The car Reed was up against was a nightwatch blue '65 GTO. Reed was in a '56 Ford hotrod, if I recall. Not sure of the drag strip. Gary Crosby (Bing Crosby's eldest son) is the cop who races his own '67-68 Camaro. Gary Crosby is one of my favorite cops on the show. Route 66 is also a killer show for old cars, as is Dragnet. This stuff never gets old to me.....

bird72 09-29-2013 11:19 AM

MeTV is gold mine for old car shots!

Icefan71 09-29-2013 11:38 AM

I love watching all those old shows just to check out all the great cars from back then. I never heard of Highway Patrol. I'll have to look out for it.

Zone 24, Dealer # 100, University Pontiac, N. Hollywood, CA

Appears to be a real Pontiac dealer.
(and not a movie lot setup)

:)

Blue'69 09-30-2013 03:34 PM

Besides the old cars what's amazing to me is the care people showed to one another back then. Not much of that going around these days.

Interesting. That's where my 68 GTO came from.

ReelFun 09-30-2013 08:40 PM

The street race episode with Dick Clark as the promoter at the track is season 4, episode 22, "Who Won?" It has a 1965 GTO racing.

This car was at the Ontario, CA Route 66 cruise last weekend. Broderick Crawford was Dan Mathews in the Highway Patrol series.

Thanks again for the info. B/MP was same class my father ran in '71 w a Pontiac powered '62 Catalina named Renegade... That episodes' 65 Goats' rear 1/4 looked stressed w a wrinkle above the driver side wheel well re-arch work for the slick fit. Wonder if they were running cheater-slicks on it? Was neat to see it beat the Road Runner too.

Missed the '70 GTO on those episodes, but did see:

Ep 18 a '70 Firebird stopped @ traffic light where Adam 12 turns right, then stops to by paper from boy.

Ep 24 The stop of the military vehicle, a Brown 1969 GTO convertible passes directly by...reminded me of this iconic RAIV '69 http://www.tachrev.com/MecumHou2012Pg3.htm
