69 tempest convertible weatherstripping. need help
 

Hey there, I am looking into getting a weatherstripping kit for the 69 convertible. I dont need the convertible top seal, but I have noticed the available weatherstripping is the following:


pair of door seals
pair of windshield pillar seals
trunk seal
pair of quarter window vertical seals
pair of lock pillar seals

What I am not seeing mentioned here is the weatherstripping piece that goes horizontal along the outside of the door...the window weatherstripping. Am I missing something here or does it not come in the kits? Or am I missing something here. Sorry if it's a dumb question, but i need the weatherstripping that goes up the A-pillar at the doors, the door window weatherstripping (that I just mentioned) and the two vertical 1/4 window weatherstripping.

All of the pieces you mention are commonly available.

I understand they would be, but I cannot find what I am talking about...or maybe I am seeing it, but an thinking it should be called something else. I need the horizontal pieces for the door window (looks like a piece of weatherstripping, then the silver piece then the weatherstripping against the door). I also need the same piece, but for the 1/4 window horizontal pieces. I have seen a lot of door weatherstripping, but nothing for the window pieces specifically. I am just wanting guidance on what the pieces I am talking about are actually called so I don't search blindly or get the wrong pieces

Window sweeps or window weatherstrip- PY has as part # RPM48 or RPM48A

1/4 window weatherstrip- PY # RPM112 or RPM112C

Pillar post weatherstrip- PY # RPM166

Here you go. I bought it off ebay sight unseen in Aug. Pictures show it better than what it is. Needs new wheels, weatherstripping, rear bumper, etc. It idles a bit low and stalls at times, but it hasn't been driven much in a long time so I assume I can work out these kinks over the winter. The paint is a bit foggy so I am going to have to decide how to go about that. I bought it for 12.6k, so I am hoping I didn't get too ripped off.

Nice looking car. I assume he sold it to you as a clone? Price sounds like a good deal for a rag top.

yes he sold it to me as a clone, and i knew it. no worries there. just upset about the stuff i mentioned earlier that wasn't pointed out. Thanks for the info on it sounding like a good deal....I was devistated when i saw one for sale for $7000. I think after looking around i still got a decent deal even with all the stuff i need to do. Being Canadian makes our unique cars like this even more expensive to buy here, which is why i've bought both my sports cars from the USA and imported them here

The bottom line is that you like it. Nothing like a rag top to me, it is worth the extra money for that alone. Drive it and enjoy it. Don't try to compare prices it will drive you crazy and you never know all of the problems to you have it in hand. It ran a 13.1 the day after the shootout, which is the best it did with that setup.

Still running a very similar setup, but heads have mild porting, hydraulic roller cam, GM30 3000 stall converter and 3.73 gears currently- pretty much everything else is the same. Oh yeah, G7014 Goodyear Polyglas tires replaced the M/T Drag Radials. :D

Still totally streetable- I'll hop in and run a few hundred street miles at a time without touching a thing after being at the track.

How in the world do i get the windowfelts off (front at the moment)? When the window is down you can get two out, but there are 3 or 4 more screws that you cant get access too. And with the window up there is no hope for getting to them

Unfortunately you will have to pull the window out.

Actually, you don't need to pull the glass out, but you do need to loosen the stops inside the door to let the glass go down a little farther so you can get to the screws.

hey doing a windowfelt order. Does anyone know if the windowfelt on a 69 gto the same as windowfelts on a 69 tempest? I seriously have no idea of the differences of these cars

All the 69 custom S, Lemans and GTO convertible weather strips are identical

Not sure what brand you are ordering, but the PUI/trim parts sweeps I bought fit and look nice. Have also had good luck with Metro weather seals. My LH door seals have been on just barely 2 weeks now and the door is easy to close.

There should not be any difference between tempest/lemans/gto door sweeps.

I have no idea what company I am buying. Likely take a look around tonight and decide. Hopefully somewhere that takes paypal as I have some paypal coin burning a hole in my virtual pocket

12,600 for a convertible that is all in one piece and you can drive home ain't a bad deal these days. You probably paid about what it is worth.
I've seen some late 60's through early 70's rag tops of different big 3 brands and models under 10K over the last several years, some even drivable, but they were extremely rough cars that needed a lot more work than what you describe yours as needing.
Not necessarily a big fan of clone cars, especially since I think LeMan's are pretty nice in their own right, but the GTO stuff on the car sweetens the deal for most people.
Personallly, if it were my car I might be inclined to reverse the badging/hood/tailights part of the cloning. You could probably get more than enough for the GTO stuff you take off the car to cover the cost. But still not a bad deal at all.

Thanks for the info. Ya, I think in my uneducated way, I likely didn't overpay by too much, if at all. I would be more worried if I was the only guy that bid on it (ebay), but there was one guy that bid on it right before me. Don't get me wrong, it was only two of us, so maybe we were both on crack:) Either way I am super pissed when I first saw it, I called my wife and was throwing the F-bombs like crazy (not at her, but about the car)

Would I buy it if I had gone to look at it? Not likely, but what's done is done, and I will be happy if I can get it all done by the end of the winter and we can enjoy it for the summer.

I know a lot of guys are purists. I am in a way, but only if the car is rare/unique. Even then sometimes I don't care as long as it's tasteful. My Viper is a relatively rare car, but I am still looking to get aftermarket rims and ditching the factory rims.

The car I was looking at before my wife decided the car had to have enough seats for the whole family was going to be a Cobra replica. It needed less work than the car I bought, but it needed some mechanical work (nothing big but it backfired and the exhaust rattled), the paint was chipped and it was $17400 more than what I paid for this.

I think as long as I accomplish stuff I will be happy. Don't get me wrong, I get super angry working on cars and I have to say I don't think I enjoy it. I like learning so I can fix my own stuff and not pay someone $100+/hour though :)

Just bought the sweeps off ebay yesterday. They are pui ones, so I hope all ends up good. Just have to get the weatherstripping too. Here's to hoping these aren't a collosal pain in the ass
