pi**ing off old car guys
just wondering why after all these years that when you added a G8 and new gto forum that you put them on top so I have to scroll thru them to get to old stuff. bet you p**sed off more than a few of you old car guys
|
Took the words outa my mouth. Nothing wrong with adding the forums but why are they before everything else? I haven't been on here for about 6 months because of computer problems, and when I finally got back I was like WTF?
|
Not only that, but why can't we opt out of having to look at the forums we don't care to see at all? Why can't we set an option to not look at selected forums?

Oops. I meant http://www.g8board.com/forums/. There are 23,199 registered users on just that forum.
I've tried pretty hard over there and everywhere to gin up interest in the true Pontiac stuff. It's important as who else is going to be interested in our old iron when the DMV (or equivalent) comes knockin' on our door saying we're too old to drive. Or else we'll have ten sellers for every buyer. We need numbers to support all of the aftermarket and repop industry. If our numbers are seen as shrinking, and they are, who is going to put the time and expense in new quality repop product? |
I own a '03 Bonni so nothing against the late model forms but just look at the
activity level. Why is the most used links at the bottom. Just saying. By all means a Pontiac is a Pontiac. ;) |
Where's my Solstice Coupe forum?
|
You know yo can minimize the forum threads you dont want to see. Makes them almost disappear.
If anyone gets pissed off and want to leave because of that little thing, I would suggest they have issues that need to be addressed. |
Damn shame scrolling (or simply minimizing it) past something you don't care about is such a bother. Especially at what it's costing you.
Get a life. |
Minimized would be fine if it stayed that way. Every time I read a post and come back to the main forum page they are expanded.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's just this crappy IE browser. TS |
Mine have been minimized since the forum change. On this computer and my iPhone.
|
OK...did I say I'm PO'ed??....
NO. Just making a point. I realize what the post title is... I kind of like my life David...how's the arm doing ?;) |
Guys, take a look at this thread. All this stuff is explained here:
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=738852 If you don't like looking at the late model section, you can minimize them by clicking the Blue Arrows in the Red header of each sub-forum. We won't feel bad :) We already have the largest gathering of the classic Pontiacs. We are trying to build our following for the late model market. Give it some time. |
Altho I have yet to look at any threads in the new forums I like the idea that they are here for those Pontiac owners who were basically being ignored.
I don't think I will develop carpal tunnel syndrome from simply scrolling past them. Jim |

I've found having them min'd is more annoying than scrolling past due to the big red banner of having some many min'd so I turned them back on, and I'll admit I have not looked at a single newer model catagory. In fact I usually skip the first Gen Firebird thread now, I kinda lose and forget about it because of the high numbers of categories chaos. Just giving my :2cents: user feedback. |

Kinda like an "Ignore Forum" selection is what I'm thinking. I personally just don't care about racing, blown or newer stuff at all. I'd just like to have the ability to focus my attention on the stuff I may have the ability to give my personal attention and advise to. Charles |
I've noted that the "blue arrow" minimize PY function stays as set when using Apple IOS (iPad) even after clearing out memory;
Doesn't work that way on our Microsoft Internet Explorer systems. Wil stay minimized for the duration of any session...but reappear expanded at next use. So, Suggest it may be your local Hardware, software, and user settings, seperate from any PY display setting. That has been the case here at home and office. Enjoy! |
Most of the later model Pontiacs will end up in the scrap yard as they deserve to. If PY feels there is a repop market knock yourself out and try. Very few late Pontiacs will ever have collective value and ever fewer are loyal to the brand. Hey, it is your deal, do what you want but, I think it is not the wisest direction to go. Not like you would listen to me anyway....
Where I would agree with the idea of the original poster, I am not ticked off about it. This board is big but, not the only one to go to. If people do not like changes, they will simply go elsewhere in addition to coming here. Time will tell both of us if there is a real, valid 80s, 90s, and 00s Pontiac repop market. I do wish you well but, do not feel it is a safe bet. |

The arm is good. FINALLY kicked me out of therapy last week. 3 months...... |
As a classic car guy, I too have found it to be a nuisance and inconvenience. I wonder why the change?
|
Links to previous discussions that explain the whole thing have been posted a couple times already...
I'm an old guy too, but taking an extra second to scroll down to the old car sections just isn't a big deal. |

Glad to hear arm is doing good.. Didn't know about the minimize deal.....cool !! All is well Thanks Eric |

The new forums don't bother me. I can scroll past them, it's no big deal. But IMHO, the last true Pontiac rolled off the line in 1979.
|
Didnt we just go through this?
My God.... |

Real Pontiacs only..no corporate nonsense!

Maybe by having these forums for the newer cars, will not only help PY from a business aspect, but help us traditional Pontiacs guys and gals by exposing more of the younger crowd to our traditional forums, which they don't get on late model only sites.
|
Why is it so important to get young people to like our cars? Should it be equally important for them to get us to like there newer cars?
It just doesn't matter, it just doesn't matter. (in my best Bill Murry impression) |

http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/DSCN0775.jpg Seriously though, in ten years or so, we'll have ten estate sales for every buyer. I personally don't want to see that happen to our cars. I'd like to believe that we'll have a new generation take over when we can longer do it. We've put a bunch of time, love and money in this old iron and I'd really hate to see this stuff rot from disinterest. This is where this turbo Miata came from. I'm an avid workout junkie so out of all the youngins I work out with, there's only one who is really interested in cars ... period. Used to be about 8 out 10 males who were intensely interested in cars back in my day. So this 19 year old like most kids his age was interested only in rice. So little by little he started making the change ... first the fascination of how a V8 sounds. Then the ride and the surprisingly good handling for something this big. Then to his first big national meet ... the POCI Nationals in Dayton. Did all the events while there including Friday at Kilcare. This includes the surprise regarding how iron this big and old could get down the dragstrip like many of them did. Then one thing leads to another and then that light blue 69 Grand Prix SJ 428 HO appeared in the PY forum classifieds a few months ago .... the one in Eureka, CA. Got him interested enough that he talked to Hagerty about insurance costs (found out that they won't cover him on a collector car until he's 25). Overall, made a bunch of progress to take from someone who wouldn't even consider an American car, old or new, to the point that he'll certainly buy a new one from the home team and likely an old one at some point. He goes to our local old cars, old guys hangout on Thursday night and I go to his Friday and Saturday late night ricer hangout .... with the 63 of course. It's a big hangout with 400 - 500 cars and it's 90% rice and a few new domestics. I'm the only old car there and I frankly get more attention than anyone else. I think this is how we bring the new generation along so we have someone to take over when we're all gone. It all happens one kid at a time. |

Oh right, they already do. |

Interesting.

People complain that theres no younger guys into cars. This is part of the reason.
Guess what, not everyone can afford a classic Pontiac (Or any brand). Its damn expensive buying and restoring old cars, so they look for the next best thing. How can you argue with something thats LS based, makes tons of power, and can be bought rather cheap now. You cant. |

I could buy a finished car much cheeper then restoring one but I choose to do the work myself. I really enjoy it and the reward is so great when driving or showing off something I did. The majority here love Pontiacs, we don't care about the model T the same way some much older folks do. The same will hold true for what the younger generation liking something newer better that or old Goats etc. Are we any less off because we like Goats and birds more that a modal T? No and neither will the rice grinders for loving there rides and not ours. Its going to happen, already has and this forum watering itself down with corporate nonsence will not make a difference except to upset the old guys. :D |

Hope this makes sense. I'm in a really bad mood right now about something unrelated and just needed somewhere and something to *#tch about. Carry on. |

I guess I just don't see how a 301 is not a real Pontiac motor, or a GA is not a real Pontiac? Yeah, the GA and the other div, shared a lot on that body, but the 301 is all Pontiac, unless you would also not include the 301 Turbo T/A's as not real Pontiac's. I guess another way to look at it would be this, do you consider a 64/65 Lemans with a six in it a real Pontiac? You are by all means entitled to your opinion, but that is a pretty slippery slope you have started down. |
