Expresso Brown Judge on Ebay

Do you guys see anything "interesting" in the pictures?

RamAir 12-09-2013 01:28 PM

Engine numbers

johnta1 12-09-2013 02:07 PM

That Judge was owned by some one on PY?

The ad writing looks like the same as another ebay ad that was talked about here recently.
(in 70-73 Firebird I think)

Just checked, it was 10 years ago?

danlevinson was the PY'er.

:)

Ditto. I thought this was gang stamped.

johnta1 12-09-2013 02:39 PM

They were usually lot smaller stamps also.

Plus the 1st digit should be a '2' and not '7'

:)

RamAir 12-09-2013 02:43 PM

whoever re-stamped it just took the last nine of the actual vin# as opposed to the correct partial vin stamp numbers

Bermuda Blue 12-09-2013 03:35 PM

hopefully, the information here will find its way to those bidding on the car. I hate seeing people get ripped off.

From the auction's Q & A section...

"The block is the original and Varified (not a restamp)"

marxjunk 12-09-2013 05:15 PM

varified...varies from one restamp to another

verified..a professional has observed and has determined its correct....

Ram4king 12-09-2013 07:22 PM

I'm surprised that no one here noticed it's in the wrong spot too. California built Pontiac engines have the vin stamp up close to where the head bolts up on th passenger side. Never down by the timing chain period.

im curious, different plants stamped the block in different places.

Only in California (Freemont - Z) did they deviate from the normal VIN stamp location.

I think Teslas are built in that plant now.

pacekar 12-09-2013 08:35 PM

what can a person do after they buy the car then find out its a restamp?

marxjunk 12-09-2013 08:43 PM

law suit....especially when they say its been varified...hes representing it as the original motr..he lied..and sure he knows...people are not that un-eduated anymore..he found his way to ebay..he can find the truth about the engine...

You would have a nightmare on your hands. As marxjunk said, lawsuit.
1) Hire lawyer
2) get (hire) expert witnesses to testify the block is fake
3) prove that the seller's intention was to defraud you
4) get (hire) and expert witness to explain to and convince a judge that a few numbers on a piece of metal make difference in a car's value
5) if you get a settlement in your favor, hope you get paid

.... you get the idea. You're screwed.

pacekar 12-09-2013 09:20 PM

I bet when somebody buys this car and find out out its a restamp. they will sell it to somebody else. and not bother with the the law suit just pass the buck:(

WOW,,,, couldnt be happier right now. Where my VIN was stamped on the block and the way it was stamped didnt look right. It was a little suspect. It looked like it was done under a shadetree. But the price was right, even if it was a date matching motor, not numbers matching. Just did a extensive search on Fremont cars. My VIN stamp is no different from any other Fremont car. Turns out it is a numbers matching car. thanks Bermuda Blue, Ram4king

In addition to Fremont plant, Arlington also stamped some vins up high near the EUN number.

Auction stopped....

1969 Ram Air 12-10-2013 10:02 AM

The seller relisted it. He's still stating matching numbers.

Did not know that. Thanks for the information.

was just about to make a post commending the owner of the car in question for pulling the auction under the assumption he was not aware of the blocks true origin when he listed the car. Let's hope we saved someone from future heartache by making the information here available.

Enough had been said already, don't worry - it wasn't missed. ;)

brians 12-10-2013 03:43 PM

1st vs. 2nd listing:
1) Same description
2) Same 30K starting price
3) Same pictures

Missing from 2nd ad:
1) Question about the WS code and EUN missing??

Bet no more questions get posted on the new listing.

Do not understand this one – Starting bid is not that bad. Car looks OK.
Why play games and set yourself up for issues for a possible few dollars more?

RamAir 12-10-2013 03:47 PM

If his reserve is anywhere close to his BIN (125k), I'm pretty sure it's not going to sell either way.

comanchefirebird 12-10-2013 05:37 PM

I should have said Atlanta (not Arlington). Please accept my apologies for the error.
There have been numerous examples (posted on PY) of Atlanta blocks being stamped up in the location that is common for Fremont vins.
Regards,
Steve

No reserve on this one.

A high Alington VIN would be new to me. Have a few documented?

GTOnly70 12-11-2013 10:57 PM

That's one of the worst fake jobs I have ever seen. Not even a casual attempt to look correct.

I made a grave mistake about ten years ago when purchasing a RA IV car. I asked the seller if the engine was numbers matching. The seller answered yes. I should have asked if it was the original block. Through years of research, I was able to determine that the engine is likely a restamp. I was told that the individual who restamped the block had a relative who worked for GM, and because of this, he was able to acquire a set of original stamps. Since I asked the wrong question, I have no legal recourse.
