Pontiac Heaven has traditionally been the kick off Pontiac event of the season. That will continue in 2014.
Our new, and greatly improved location is Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. Formerly known as 'Firebird', Wild Horse Pass offers world class amenities including resorts, casinos, premium shopping, Bob Bondurant road racing, drag boat racing and the NHRA championship drag strip! Simply stated, there is something for everyone and you will not be disappointed!
Our dates are April 5 and 6. In that time frame, I will be running 3 drag/show events-
Sat 6am-4pm
Sat night 6pm1am
Sunday 8am-5pm
More info coming soon including hotel info
Make plans to visit Phoenix, Az this April!

Here is our schedule for Pontiac Heaven weekend for 2014.

http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps09d95bec.jpg

Please note that there are many changes to past events at Speedworld. Pontiac Heaven this year starts at 6am on Saturday, April 5 for the early birds.
For racers, I have increased, considerably, their test and tune time. On Saturday, I will have the track surface open from 9am until 1am for an unprecedented 16 hours! Also, at past events, there was an hour shut down at noon time. This will either be reduced to 30min or eliminated all together. Eliminations will be scheduled later in the day, around 3pm. With all this extra set up, tech and test and tune time, there should be no need to test the night before.

Also new on the agenda is a general automotive parts swap meet.

http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/a...psf69eddbb.jpg

This will be held on the spectator side of the track and spectator admission to the swap is free. This is in addition to the normal Pontiac swap in the pit area. This swap will run both Saturday and Sunday and is a new idea I wish to try out.

At the conclusion of the day time events, we will go into the Saturday night portion of Pontiac Heaven weekend, and also new for this year, will be the “All Years Muscle Shootout”.

http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps7cb44ffa.jpg

This evening event welcomes all years and brands of muscle/performance domestic cars to compete for a fun night. This gives Pontiac Heaven racers another opportunity to buy into another competition event on Saturday. We will have the track open to 1am! We will also be running the Reliable Diesel drags, Nostalgic warm ups and open test and tune for all ¼ mile vehicles until 1am! Pontiac Heaven weekend traditionally accommodates racers with more track time available than any other event and 2014 continues with this advantage and is yet another reason to make plans to be here in Phoenix in April! More details to follow.

The last day of Pontiac Heaven weekend peaks with inviting all other brands 1981 and older to both race and to show against the Pontiacs! It makes for a great, and very competitive, weekend for those in the show and on the strip itself. Sunday is called “Nostalgic Show & GO!”.

http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps3a49a0b4.jpg

We wish to make a special request for our Pontiac friends to also attend and enter their vehicles on Sunday. You will be glad you did.

More info coming...In the meantime, make plans to attend Pontiac Heaven here in the Phoenix area April 5 & 6.

I am booked, rented a Penske mustang so I can race on the Saturday and Sunday, being from Alberta Canada, can't drive the GTO down and race in a weekend. look forward again to your great event Steve. See everyone on the first weekend in April.

The pleasure is mine Sir! Having people like you making the effort to attend year and after year make it all more the worthwhile. Pontiac Heaven is more than a show, a race, a swap, etc. It is our annual reunion for Pontiac fans. a time to see old friends, make new ones and see what is happening in the Pontiac world in the west.
So happy to know you will be making it this year Les. see you soon

slgenge 01-26-2014 08:52 PM

Steve, does the track rent golf carts? I have not been to this establishment before. I know you could rent a golf cart at Norwalk so you don't miss to much action. Thanks and see you in April.

Thanks
Shawn

Got started with a little work on the 67 FB for tech inspect purposes. I plan on thrashing it soundly! It's a good thing I have tow insurance and a few spare motors.;)

Can't wait! Vacation request at work is already in place!

The NHRA nationals tour is in town this weekend with 300+ mph fuel cars and more!

In about 6 weeks, Pontiac Heaven will be running at this same track! It's going to be a good time and you will not want to miss it. Make plans to attend.

Have not been asked that before but, I could see why, esp when asking about Norwalk. Norwalk is spread out with racers on one side and the show/swap on the other side. It has to do with the track layout.
At Wild Horse, everything will be on the same side of the track so, much less walking will be needed.
We have not had golf cart rentals before but, it is an idea.

Pontiac Heaven weekend is 5 weeks away!

Steve Barcak 03-10-2014 01:25 PM

Pontiac Heaven weekend is about a month away. If you want to get in early, be sure to preregister. Pre registration closes March 20. full event info including schedules, costs and forms all at www.pontiacheaven.org

Thank you Les and I agree!

Here are some updates-

The general auto swap meet mentioned in post #6 on the spectator side has been cancelled. This month of March has been flooded with no less than 3 2 day auto swap meets. The next one is this weekend, one week prior to my weekend and it does not make sense to be 4th in line.
The location is good and perhaps I will host this at another time but, will not work for April 5-6.

The 'normal' Pontiac Heaven swap for Pontiac parts will still be held in the pits. Notice- ALL vendors, swap or otherwise, must purchase a permit from Gila River in advance.
IF you are planning to sell parts, contact the Gila River community right away. www.gilariver.org or call Rachel Jackson 520-562-9558 or contact me.

In other news- The car shows for Sat and Sun will be held on a grassy area overlooking Firebird lake. There is a large shade pavilion with seating in the car show area.

I have heard from a very reliable source that this year Corporate and Chevrolet Powered Pontiacs are welcome. I will be there with Frank Rizzo and his 1969 Big Block Chevrolet Powered Judge Convertible. See you there.

ha ha That, my friend, is NOT a safe bet!

Actually, chevy and corporate powered Pontiac are most welcome to attend....on the spectator side!

Our annual celebration of the Pontiac V8 engine starts this Saturday! You will not want to miss our new location. The show will be on the grass overlooking Firebird Lake and there is a large shade pavilion right in the show area! Plenty of food, beer and other beverages will be available too. Lots, did I say, Lots of Drag racing track time? Bank on it.

http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps645445fa.jpg

I will have the track open and running Saturday for over 16 hours straight! Where else can you get that? NO ONE complains at Pontiac Heaven events for not getting enough runs in. You can test and test , and then test some more. Plus 3 different drag show opportunities- Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday!
Jim Wangers will be there as well. The M/T HEMI Pontiac will be there and more.
Pontiac Heaven for 2014 sets the new standard for any Pontiac event destination anywhere. There is so much to do right in the area- shopping, dinging, gaming, horseback riding and on and on. Weather? well, leave your jacket at home, bring sun block and shorts. If you like humidity, this will not be the place for you, Arizona has nice dry climate this time of year. You will Love it. Come to Pontiac Heaven for 2014.
Next weekend!
Also, I am in negotiations for 2015 Pontiac Heaven weekend and am hoping to be able to announce next years dates during the event. 17 years of 'no corporate nonsense' brought to you by this Pontiac fan? We'll see.

I cannot overstate how grateful I am to this OUTSTANDING list of sponsors who have confidence in me to bring you the absolute best event I can.
Please support them, they are helping me to bring this event to you. I cannot do it without them.
Thank you sponsors from the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful and appreciative.

So, you think so big talker? I will gladly accept a best of 2 out of 3 match race against whatever piece of crap chev you may have. Should you accept, contact me personally. We can set up a shoot out for next years Pontiac Heaven weekend if you are serious. If not, it is time to shut up.

Latest forecast for Phoenix: sunny and warm, high of 78 degrees on Saturday and 80 degrees on Sunday.:) For those of you in the Midwest or East: it's not too late to use some frequent flier miles and hop on a plane this weekend.

All fun and games. I love my pontiacs just as much as the next guy, and even have one with a factory chevy installed (71 ventura) ;) But I like my chevy's as well, and even have a couple of fords. Some people take the whole brand loyalty thing a bit too serious. Cracks me up when I drive the formula to a cruise and pontiac people are friendly, then next week drive in with the ventura and suddenly they act like they don't know you :D Whatever, I like them all ;)

Steve I truely hope your event is stronger than ever and continues to be that way. I'm always there with my formula, and already looking forward to next year bringing my fathers 69 goat with a fresh BES 571 to get kicked off the track.

Gto Darryl 04-03-2014 09:27 AM

I wanted to take two of my cars to race but the cost to get there and the payout is not worth it for me. Hope everyone has fun and a safe time.

3fastgtos 04-03-2014 09:29 AM

Payout, what's a payout?:)

67Bird Racer 04-03-2014 11:04 AM

Most events usually payout according to car count so I'm sure Steve must have something setup based on a minimum number of cars.

I have never seen anything posted though.

Steve do you have anything posted for payout amounts somewhere?

X2. Ive run Steves race almost every year. Ive won my class around 5-6 times. The payout varies with car count. When there are a lot of cars its a decent payout. This year I wont be racing but I will be there to support the event.

To the Snivelers- Stop crying and show up. This is a great event and I think the only Pontiac event in the Southwest/West area of the country.

It is, and a very difficult one to pull off out here since this has been known as primarily chevy country out here since the 60's. Couple that with the fact that there aren't as many dragstrips left to hold a venue like this, and it makes for an event you don't want to miss. My hats off to Steve for pulling this off.

Any of the other good events I enjoy are East of the Mississippi. UMTR, F.A.S.T. and Pure Stock, NMCA, Tri Power Nats, etc... Even most of the Fun Ford weekends and LS series racing all of which I like to participate in are all back East.

Get out and support Pontiac Heaven and keep this going.

Well, still resting after a very demanding and satisfying weekend.

I wish to thank everyone who attended this year. It means a lot to me and to the Pontiac and Nostalgia (Sunday) community. Our new location is a real winner and now sets the new standard for any Pontiac event anywhere.
Our show was on the grass with a large shade pavilion with seating and it overlooked Firebird lake and the Casino/Hotel in the distance.
My prayers were answered in many ways and we maintained our 16 year average event temps of a low about 50 and a high about 80 and no humidity! Does not get any better.
The swap meet was smaller than average due to a misunderstanding of the permit licenses needed and will be corrected for next year.
Even though my costs went way up I was able to maintain almost the same entrance fees.

Special thanks to nothing short of an outstanding team who worked with me to staff the entire weekend. At risk of missing someone, my hat is off to the following dedicated friends/family who worked through it all without a gripe-

Todd Mitten- show director and in charge of spectator side
Pete Brennan- in charge of pit side
Matt Webster ( nephew ) Race director
Keith Collier- just about everything as needed, Fueler mock up
Jane Webster ( sister )
George & Jody Krasnowski and girls
Brad Nabours
Tom & Hunter Locke
Bob Hamm & Ken Beer who cover the tower when my voice went out
Wayne Fern
Greg Harrelson
JR & Ray Lewis
Ken Bump
Josh Radfield
and a few others.
We all worked together very well and pulled it off! 19 hours on Sat, then a half dozen hours off and then another 10-12 hours on Sunday! This does not count all the time put in by Todd, Pete, Keith and myself prior to.

Thanks to this outstanding list of sponsors who believed in me and put up money to help me run this weekend-
