What is your favorite GTO? If I do this right you should be able to only vote for one year only and the results will be public. Sorry LS guys only "real" GTO's no corporate nonsense!

Oops, only 10 options. Looks like the 73-74 guys have to be placed on the outside of the field, again. Oh well, might give them a fighting chance. :D

I knew this type of poll had to have been done before but I've never seen on so......
I remember when I was a kid 65 was the heavy favorite and 68 was not so popular. Goes without saying that 73-74 were not even up for consideration. Heck Paul Zazarine's original restoration guide did not even include 71-72 :eek:

I remember the 68s as being called parts cars...they where the red head in the room...


i do remeber the 65s always being the most popular...then it went to 67s, then 66s became popular because of the trips......69s have always been hot around here..cant even buy a 70 around here...71s not enough to buy..72s are everywhere around here..and i mean everywhere....a few 74s and hardly any 73s..theres been one for sale here for 3 years...hes dropped so much, now hes trying to trade it off


I like them all, if they are ruff, or are perfect..and somewhere in between...there was a time when 71s and 69s are all i looked at....i had a 65 trips car...never got it done...

Had to vote 66 as it was the very first car I bought and was my daily driver. But that one is long gone and I now I'm fortunate have the 2nd one. 66es are special to me because of the louvered tail lights, and the grills.... like 64, 65, and 67 are one year only. Besides, 66 was the first year for the 'coke bottle' look on a muscle car, and that look was copied by other manufacturers.... so it must have been a good idea. LOL

Voted 66 as well and it too was my first GTO at 19 yrs of age. I don't own a 66 now but still my favorite.

They are all great cars and each year has its strong points. I am blessed to have every year of American GTO and my 66 has been my transportation and daily driver for a few years now but, I really miss driving my '72. '72 has to be the 'best' year (interior, WW5 option, etc, etc ) but, not every ones 'favorite' year. '71-3 had almost no advertising. '65-70 had all of the advertising and that really helped make them legends.
'68s and '69s are way up my list too but, as I said, I like all of the American ones even '74s.

I voted for 66. Stacked headlight GTO's are my favorite and the 66 just makes everything come together. The taillights are the best of any muscle car from that era.

I like them all, but the VOE option and the front end styling on the 70 puts it at the top of my list.

The '66 just looks the way a muscle car should look- lean and muscular.
'69 is my second choice.

'64 was too bland. '65 was getting a more aggressive look. '66 got it right. '67 is just a cluttered up '66. '68 looked modern, but still had old style interior. '69 fine-tuned the '68 styling and added a modern interior. '70 seemed a bit bloated- '71 and '72 even more so. '73 was nice enough, but heavy. '74 was just a Nova- Just kidding, seeing who is still reading. ;)

I agree with the 66 tail lights, I believe possibly the best ass end of any car period!
Jmt, I voted for 66 and I own an origional VOE car. :eek: lovey 70 though! One of my favorite years.

66, 69 and 70 my top three in that order.

I like the '65 because it's leaner and meaner than the later cars, and has the best dash layout, IMO. My first GTO (and car) was a '66 GTO, and I'm partial to '66's as well. The 389, tripower, and the ribbed metal consoles, etc. I also have a '67, and think that it looks great, and actually like the '67's grille better than the '66. Tail lights....about the same. I have a '66 mirror and '66 window cranks installed on my '67, as the plastic '67 items are cheesy and fall apart. '66 also has a much nicer pattern on the bucket seats, IMO. So, I can't decide: I voted for '65, but I like '65,'66, and '67 the best.

Can't vote as it's a tie for me between '69 and '72 with '71 being a close second.

I've owned my 70 GTO for 27yrs but my favorite is a 65. Oh well, maybe one day I will be able to get one.

I love my '65 but like the '64's also. All the other years have grown on me. I would own any year GTO and would park it next to my '65. :D

I like the original, 1964.

Simplicity, no unneeded frills.

Even though I am the very proud owner of a 67 convertible I still like the 65 so I had to vote for it.

I really like the 65 and 70. But the 64 is really nice as well.

I was just thinking about my ranking in order, starting with my favorite:

1) 1970 - Everything about it is right to me. Best front end, love the fender flares, love the recessed rear bumper.
2) 1969 - The Judge in particular - seminal muscle car.
3) 1968 - ground breaking styling. I like the front vent windows. Arrow Head side markers.
4) 1966 - Great rear end, "classic" (non-Endura) styling, last year for Tri-Power.
5) 1964 - Gotta go with the car that started it all. Absolute classic. No frills, just a Tri-Power 389.
6) 1965 - I like the fact that it's a "one year only" car. Still lean and mean like the '64.
7) 1967 - Great, but would always take a '66 over a '67.
8) 1971-'72 - because I love the '70 so much, these just seem bizarro and I can't deal with the front ends.
9) 1973 - I like 'em, but would never own one unless it was practically given to me.
10) 1974 - to own one, it WOULD have to be given to me. I'm sure they're lovely, but they just do absolutely nothing for me.

I haven't owned each year (only a couple 67's and a 69). Like Steve said, each year has their advantages and disadvantages. I liked the ride in my 69 more than the 67 but got to say I sure miss that Ram Air 67!

Well I had to vote for a 71 as it's the only GTO I've ever owned. As far as I know I have the only 71 in the club, usually the only 71 GTO you'll see at AutoFair, low production numbers, (partly due to the strike at GM in 71), and I think it's a good looking car. I had a 65 LeMans when I was in high school and it was a good car but I like the larger appearing GTO's like the 71's and 72's.

One other thing about the 66es. You can do the sequential signal lights for the rear.... 3 lights flashing each side.... just like the Cougars ands Shelbys of that era. I love it on my 66. IIRC you can't do that for any other year GTO. But, you can also do it for the 2 light rear signals. Not expensive or hard to do for either 3 or 2 light signals.

I'm very surprised that 65 is so far ahead of 66 and 67. I though for sure one of those would be the most popular. At every show there seems to be more 67's every time

my first was a 1970 but after that one I had to have a 1965 and looked for quite a few years for the right one.
I read an article once that polled GTO owners if you were to own a different year than you had what year would it be it was..........

Same here Paul. More 65s and 67s out at shows, but not all that many 66es seen.

Don't get me wrong, I like all GTOs but to me the cool factor is a 66... for previously stated reasons. ;)

I have always been baffled that 68 was the second largest year of production but seem to be a rarity. I very seldom see them at shows, cruise ins or auctions. Even in this small sampling they don't get their due. Why?

Because there was so many..they became parts cars in the 80s and early 90s..they made so many, and few rare ones...

i have 9 enduras laying around here that are 68s..no 69s a few 70-72s...almost every used fender i have is 68 etc etc....

every dog gets its day..and 68s are finally coming on and getting respect like they should

Some things never change. Like I said 30 yrs ago it was the same thing, 65's hot 68' not. 69 being one of my favorites and yet I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy a 68 not even for one of my kids. Just don't like em and yet they are so similar to the 69.
The 70 being so popular now, at least in this poll, suprises me a little as it was not so high on the list when I was younger.

I'm surprised the '65 is so high. I don't see them often and I don't hear a lot of people talking about them. I would have guessed that '69 would have been much higher on the list.

Voted for 68.

71-2 should get an honorable mention too.

I voted for 65 but drive a 64, so 64 is close 2nd. Sometimes u can't pass up what is almost given to ya.

I like 'em all. It wasn't always that way.

The 70-72 looked heavier compared to the 68-69. Almost bloated looking if you came to Pontiac like I did first liking the '69, but I learned to like the 70-72 a lot. The 65 is nice and clean looking. The 66-67 look refined. The 73 and 74 are fine too.

I like the way you think I voted 71 but 68 would be next on the list

1973. I'm not voting since this poll doesn't have a separate selection for 1973...

In my locale I probably see 65's the most with 64 & 67 tied for second. I do love them all.:usa2:

I like '64 and '65s... I voted for the '64... even though I had a '67 when I was 17. My dad had a '64 Convertible when I was a kid. I just think the 4's and 5's are a neater car...

I'd also vote for a 2005....had one for a daily driver for a couple of years....fun car to drive and pretty much bullet proof.

I voted '65 even though I have a '67. The '65 is what got it all started for me. My dad had a pic of his '65 he picked up new. As a young boy (probably 8 or 9), I instantly fell in love with it. Never looked back.

My choice came down to '68 or '70. It was a very tough call.
I voted for 1968 because I like the timeless styling of the front end. They didn't call it 'The Great One' for nothing.
'69s are a little cleaner with the ventless front door glass but I like the wraparound front turn signals on a '68 better, and I also like the tail lights in the bumper better.

The 1970 has a very nice front end in it's own right, and being a one-year-only makes it classy. The tail lights are less than spectacular, but that front end makes up for it easily.

Speaking of tail lights, strictly speaking, 1967 are my favorite hands down.

Now I will reveal something that is contrary to this survey.
My first Pontiac was a '65 Lemans 2-door hardtop and I fantasized of having a '65 GTO the whole time I had it.
It would be fourth on my list now, after '68 '70 and '69.

I just can't get around the '70 tail lights either or that would be my fave too, so I always go for the '69 with hideaway headlights:)
