In the Dark at Norwalk 2014

So it's time to start planning the summer.

So how about a Darkside special at Norwalk???

I figure to bring something, maybe the wagon...Hadn't dragged that out last year at all. Sucked.

We could do something up in the trailer lot during the day, I would set up my enclosed trailer as "home base" have a grill, and a cooler. We could drive the Darks up to the lot on Friday, then parade them down Sat and Sun AM for the show, the "Darkside-GTO only MORE" parade or something like that. Loop them all the way around the field then everyone splits up for classes. Maybe a drag strip parade too??? We could ask Pete Woodruff to make an announcement or something as well. Need a 69 GP or larger to play.

Whatcha think?

Maybe repost this in the other big car sections??

miltmilton 01-09-2014 09:40 AM

I'm all in. Can't wait to be there and meet up with old friends and make new ones.

Since '64s are celebrating 50 years, if I am able to go (details TBD) I will bring "Ramblin' Rose".

I think it's a fun idea, Keith. I think the John Cafferty & Beaver Brown Band song should play on the PA system during said rolling display!

Presuming that I get my car back from the body shop by then after my deer hit repair from last June, I'll certainly be there.

65 Cat 2+2 01-10-2014 02:12 PM

I'm in!
It's the 50th anniversary of the 2+2, and I'm trying to set up a 2+2 Reunion, so hopefully we can "represent".

63gpman 01-10-2014 02:33 PM

If....and it's a big if, i get my Cat done, i will be there. I already marked the calendar for time off. Would be great to put a face with the names on here and put a few cold ones back!!

mnfatcat 01-10-2014 06:48 PM

My son and I are going to try and make it, hope to have the 2:88 ST10 and the aluminum flywheel functioning by then.

Keith Vrabec 01-13-2014 11:49 AM

Who coined the Darksider name? The Chicago 12? Should get that whole crew in to OH this year... Pio? Eric? Whatcha think?

IIRC, Stu Norman and Bill Weeden (UPC-WU2) on Classical Pontiac were using it (and the sub-tag, "May the torque be with you") the first I heard of it, and that was in '05 or '06...

mike nixon 01-22-2014 03:23 PM

Hoping to make it this year. Look for the ugly car.

Cool!

pontiacjeff 01-23-2014 02:40 AM

Darksiders go waaaay back. We used the term on CP back in '98!

63gpman 03-27-2014 12:52 PM

So I will not have my car done, but am putting together plans to go. Would be fun to put a face with the names/cars/screen names that I have met on here. If you guys do get together, I would enjoy to meet up.

Any suggestions on where to stay?

AROWHED 03-31-2014 11:30 AM

There is a campground at the track. Also RV parking. Many hotels.

Eastbound Caravan...

If people coming from west of 87.9500 degrees longitude want to plan a caravan, post it here.

63gpman 03-31-2014 12:41 PM

Our current plan is a little crazy and is subject to change. We are looking to leave on Thursday night, take turns driving through the night, attend the activities Friday, stay overnight somewhere (redroof inn?) attend Saturday, drive back that night, stay in WI somewhere and go to the Swap meet in Chippewa Falls on Sunday.

If anyone else is this crazy and needs a ride, there may be room. We likely will have a 15 passenger van and a trailer to haul things back and forth. Rochester MN to Norwalk OH.

LASJayhawk 03-31-2014 01:46 PM

IIRC: A GTO guy asked it we were drawn to the dark side of the force for liking big cars...

63gpman 07-24-2014 01:16 PM

Only a week away. I'll be there with a couple people. We will be selling at the swap Friday and Saturday (if i understand correctly) Feel free to stop and say hi, you should be able to find me 6'8" likely wearing a darksiders t-shirt and my trusty crusty white adidas hat. Will have a few Super Duty parts ;)

Engine-Ear 07-24-2014 08:06 PM

I will be there Friday afternoon thru Sunday after breakfast...

Look for a white mesh pith helmet, DarkSiders T-shirt, beer (conversation oil) in my hand. No idea when I will be where...

FWIW, I won't be vending but <insert shameless self-promotion here> I will have RediRads with me (box of 'em in my trunk) if you want tunes for the ride home.

Please flag me down if you see me - especially if I don't recognize you (slight by-product of the crash) - This is gonna be kind of a "soul-batteries recharge" weekend for me.

63gpman 07-24-2014 08:12 PM

I had to look up what a mesh pith helmet was!

barrierblue66 07-25-2014 08:32 AM

I'll be driving the Safari up Thursday early with another big car, a sweet '67 Bonny. A few other club guys as well. Leaving Monday morning as I want the full, first time, Norwalk experience :)

...good call!

hurryinhoosier62 07-25-2014 10:51 AM

One more time I won't be there, but I have informed the wife to schedule NOTHING during the POCI convention in Louisville next year. We'll have to see about Norwalk.

lemansboy70 07-25-2014 02:11 PM

Is anyone doing the "Darksider" t-shirts anymore. I have three of them, but my buddy just got a '66 Prix and I need to get him some. He's a lot smaller than me or I would give him one of mine.

I WISH I could convince them to make the shirts in a 4XLXT.

tharkun8 07-25-2014 03:20 PM

I'm sorry I won't be able to make it.. I lived in Cleveland
for 6 years and enjoyed going to norwalk.. I live in CO now and
it takes a lot more planning to make it.

Both my ponchos are out of commission at the moment and I'm also
between jobs at the moment so I have hurdles to overcome.

Hopefully my 66 Ventura will be ready by next summer..

Have fun all.. and try to get some darksider group pics..
( people and cars )

John

Deadhead 07-28-2014 04:14 PM

Not going this time. Have a memorial shindig for a mentor mechanic of mine to go to here on Saturday.

I have seen a guy on E-Bay in or near Norwalk who has just begun selling a 30 year stash of '65-'66 big cars and parts though. Anyone going may wish to investigate this further. If I was going, I would be all over checking him out.

Marv 07-28-2014 07:45 PM

Can someone post lots of pics of full-size machinery there, please (particularly '61-'64)?

Some of us are stuck a few thousand miles away on the upside-down end of the world!

I think that can be arranged! ;)

Marv 07-28-2014 08:38 PM

Thank you very much :)

70ra455 07-28-2014 09:44 PM

I was going to take my GTO but now I'm thinking that I'll put an alternator on the '66 Bonnie "parts" car ... register it ... and come with it. It would take a lot to get it right ... hmmm ...

either way ... I'm there

Deadhead ... who is the ebay seller? His ID?

rosconz 07-29-2014 01:38 AM

Hear, Hear, Marv, I'm keen to see the "Big Girls" too

Can't find the guy now (since 2 days ago?). Maybe all the auctions ended? I am sure you will be able to find him there.

Willshire 07-29-2014 10:56 AM

I am going without the GP as we are piling into the rv, stopping for cheap duty free booze, and trekking to the strip. We have a site on the vendors side friday nite to sunday nite (holiday monday) We will be the 3 crazy canucks shooting up the saloon (so to speak). Can't wait to do a couple trips to the burnout box for some sweet smells! See you guys there. I will be holding a bud light. still haven't figured out my distinguishing feature yet. Clown hair maybe?

Just don't fall off!

I just bought a Nikon D7100 that I'm trying to learn, after a couple decades of Canons, so I will be taking lots of pics and posting since I am kind of a post whore when it comes to pics. Now true, the pics may all be screwed up, but I'll do the best I can.

Willshire, I look forward to meeting you! (I won't tease you regardless of your hair...I have NONE)

61 389-348, likewise. Also, I am a film-Canon guy...I have wandered away from my roots and have a Sony digital (with Zeiss optics). Your pic looks great...try to avoid the photoshop temptation as long as you can!!

Willshire 07-30-2014 02:20 PM

See you there matt. Now that i know what a mesh pith helmet is!!

Why? Photoshop is great fun. Plus you have to use it to be able to use it. And even with a fancy pants camera you still have to do some post processing.

Lats Saturday was the first car show I shot with the new camera, and as you can see, I have a long way to go.

Anyone know how late campsite entry is open till. We won't in until 9 or 10

Only one 61......isnt that unusal? I've never attended the Tri Power Nationals but I've always been told it is the place to go. Any thoughts as to why there were no 61s, what about 60s?

61 389-348 08-04-2014 08:43 AM

I didn't look real thoroughly. I got there Friday afternoon at about 2:00 and ended up talking to a bunch of folks and didn't really getting around much figuring that I would do that Saturday. I did walk the swap meet (Saturday that would have been a swamp meet) And of course the rains came Saturday morning at about the time I was having breakfast and it rained until about 3:00 in the afternoon.

I think a bunch of folks packed up and left as I almost did. I went back down to the track around 4:30 or so, did the buffet and took pics for an hour or so. I didn't even get to the other side of the track or watch any of the racing.

63gpman 08-04-2014 11:28 AM

There were a few 61's. A cream one and a Bristol Blue one for sure. May have been others, but can't recall. I'll post some pics later.

Great to see everyone. Agree about that Black 2+2. I spoke with the owner of that one a few times. had a 6 spd trans in it. (check out the shift knob)
