That is extremely tacky, but in a fascinating, retro way. I could easily see this car being driven by a bigger-than-life super hero pimp villain in one of the mid 1960's Matt Helm or James Bond movies....it looks like a '60's era custom to me, over the top and tacky, but still, somehow, authentically vintage. I like the Monkeemobile much better!!

Txbobcat 01-10-2014 01:47 PM

There just have to be some drug use in here somewhere

Gator67 01-10-2014 02:00 PM

I don't Mark…there may be a few things on this car you could incorporate in your Cat gasser project :)

marxjunk 01-10-2014 02:06 PM

if we all liked the same thing, thered be a line around the block to date your mom....nuff said

It's so tacky that it's awesome! WAY over the top, but cool like the Monkeymobile or Batmobile was cool. George Barris?

X2 well said.

Even the hood scoops have hood scoops.:)

geeteeohguy 01-10-2014 06:19 PM

Yes, this is very interesting. It is in extremely bad taste, in my opinion, but looks to be of extremely high quality and very well executed. Like it was done by Barris or another pro. Usually, amateur custom jobs are hacked together.....not so with this one. Very well done and carried out, but I would have to wear a ski mask to drive it in public!!

FunctionalShaker 01-10-2014 06:46 PM

Holy crap! Now that is a pimped out Pontiac.

I think he's just jealous that he didn't think of all those cool mods for his car....:D

gregneun 01-10-2014 08:11 PM

Nudie like car

Maybe they used a Nudie car as inspiration. Nudie Cohen made the Hank Jr and Roy Rodgers Bonnevilles.

A perfect example of "More was never enough!"

It looks like they started out doing an XP-400 clone but couldn't stop with just 2 scoops on the hood & 1/4s.

I always liked the XP show cars.

gregneun 01-11-2014 02:23 AM

XP 455

I think steve v broke the code.

The suntanning units are cool, wonder if you can be strapped in for cruisin?

KNOW WHEN TO SAY; ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Ragtop Man 01-11-2014 01:28 PM

My father used to say: "looks like it was magnetized and dragged through a J. C. Whitney Catalog!"

It hurts to look at it!

Ragtop Man 01-11-2014 01:30 PM

PS on the color factory shot, I'm ga-ga for the deep offset 8-lugs and redlines. Yum!

hellerods 01-11-2014 03:01 PM

even more

If you bought this car Mark, you could maybe "Donk" it out and add a little of your own style to enhance the car's street cred!! Mark look at this as an opportunity to demonstrate your car building skill and improve the "perfect" darksider, tell Steve about it and offer it for his future museum. Lee

I think I am in love.

So minimal.

71GP76TA 01-12-2014 09:50 PM

What blows me away is the $37,000 price tag...

marks73ta 01-13-2014 07:35 PM

I need to appologize to the owner of this car.
I have to retract my first impression and the comment about "throwing up in my mouth" when I posted a thread about this car. My wife put it all in humble prospective. I showed her the car and explained how I felt about it. Right away she said, "well, someone may think that about your car since you cut it up so much", sheesh, I hate when she is right.
So I apologize to the owner of the car and anyone that likes the car. As I've stated about comments made about mine, it is my car and I can do what I like and want to. If you built this car, it is your car, I may not agree but I do not have any say in it. Just preference and that I can and should keep to myself. The workmanship on the car does look to be exceptional and the excecution of the modifications were done well. It is well done for the concept. Above all, it is a '63 Pontiac. That alone makes it worth looking at.

importsmasher 01-13-2014 08:18 PM

That car was built a long time ago; it has been running around Phoenix for decades. As some here have said, not really my style, but there are aspects of it that I like, and the workmanship looked good.

hellerods 01-14-2014 12:28 PM

apologize ??

Mark I know that you meant what you wrote and you are a good hearted guy and I should stop writing right now,,,, but I can't help myself. Let's get real-- If I owned this car and drove it to my local Sat. morning dognut get together with all the other car guys, I am sure that more than one car guy would spit coffee all over himself at the first sight of this fine Poncho and there would be huge smiles and some outright laughter within earshot of said Poncho!!!!! We live in enough of a P.C. world as it is. I say we don't need it here with fellow Darksiders and all of us should wear are "Big boy pants" and feel free to comment on the obvious...just sayin.....Lee

marks73ta 01-14-2014 01:06 PM

Thank you Lee for that. I can't control the thoughts or the mouths of others but I can control mine. I could have been for constructive in my criticisms instead of out right mean, and destructive. You're right about people at a car show being shocked and laughing at it but there are those that like it. They have every right to do it as they see fit. Anyway, I'm only advocating that I be more tolerant, not saying the world as a whole should back off. Criticism is a very strong motivator. Constructive criticism is an even greater tool. Anywho, I don't want to stifle anybody's creativity. It does not mean I can't still think it but I can temper the voicing of it. Now--on with the show--LOL.

there may have a point in that car's life where it wasn't too bad, but the urge to update was overwhelming.

that being said, i'm pretty sure duff man would drive the **** out that car.

OK y'all for posterity:

I will now post Pics of the JCW magnet car and one I just found that show a similar concept. Check out the wagon in the background of the Pic.- its got more people looking at it. I think it is Chicago Auto Show but not sure. I wonder what motor that is sitting on the stand with the white headers on it.
