68 April gold at Volo museum
Checking out a 68 april gold GTO at 31k from Volo Museum. Is gold a 'negitive color on a 68? Is volo a decent place to buy a car sight unseen?
|
dont buy anything from that place without seeing it yourself or having and independent inspection..as a matter..dont buy anything for that kind of money with out an inspection
that is a popular color...doubt if its a big end color, but its not negative |

It's not like it's green or anything ;) I've always liked gold. http://www.volocars.com/1968-pontiac....MJS2kwKx.dpbs |
boy, thats a nice car....or appears to be..
|
I've heard some kr@p about VOLO over the years. Definitely inspect it in person.
|
Looks like a pretty nice car, I would definitely have a inspection done to validate their claims. I've observed these guys buying at auctions and they seem pretty knowledgeable.
|
As with any of these museum/showrooms, you have to see the car in person, do your research, and ask for the documentation. It's the same as buying a car from an auction. Many restorers like to dump half-assed quickie restos on the short attention span instant gratification crowd, but sometimes good cars come along.
Not EVERYTHING at Volo is bad. Like other museums, they get many cars on consignment, and sometimes they get some very nicely restored cars. But as their ads all say (and the same for TV auctions) : INFORMATION IS TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE. |
High-option car (not from ad but from looking at car as presented)
Bad
Make sure PHS matches options shown |
One other thing that stood out to me is in photo #13, it appears the dash was not replated:

Single snorkel air cleaner is right for '68. Passenger side mirror isn't.
Like the others said, inspect it closely. IMO it's nice, but it better be spot on for 30K. Do they have any documentation on the work done to it? It doesn't look super fresh under the hood and the interior needs some attention. How old is the paint and what kind of body work is under there? |
i think its a high teen car..unless theres lots of reciepts and the PHS works out..
31 is optimistic |
Odd placement of the drivers rear quarter window switch and I believe an incorrect power brake distribution block along with some other condition issues already pointed out. Very nice looking car with the parchment interior and black vinyl top. I've been to Volo several times and agree with a previous post....some very nice spot on restos, some clapped out quickie restos. Gotta look for yourself, they do a very good job with their photography.
|
It's a beautiful color combo in my opinion...On the other hand, as much as I like '68s, that's pretty strong money for one.
|
Price seems pretty high to me too. I see similar condition GTOs going for about $5k-$10k less. If it's a color and option combo you just have to have and you can inspect it beforehand to verify it isn't a shoddy respray buff job or the engine isn't tired or smoking, then it might be worth the price.
|
43 pictures and not one "body shot" down either side of the car, nor any pictures of the underside. Those are a couple of "red flags" to me.
|
From catching the incorrect passenger mirror to the wrong placement of the power window switch, to lock of undercarrige shots, to the heads up on the volo Museum, you guys are the best. Thank you thank you, thank you. One last thing, from this discussion i feel y'all think this is about a 27k car. does anybody think its worth more? Damm you guys are good!
|
I'd say closer to 24-25k, but that really depends on a close inspection. My hunch is it's not as nice as the pictures would lead you to believe.
If you have 30k burning a hole in your pocket, buy my car so I can get this one ;) |
Interesting '69 here.

It's a pretty car alright. Big question is if it's a factory RA car or not. Even if it's not, looks like a nicely done addition.
|
Seller sez...."car is 100% correct".....with the wrong shifter. And what is the black "tank" on the driver side inner fender?
|
Yea, what is that black tank?

The dash looks like a cap to me as well. And what's up with the scoop fit on the hood? |
Noticed that scoop and the dash as well. Like I said, whether it's an actual RA car will make a lot of difference in the value and how many little warts can be overlooked. That's probably obvious to all though. The fact that the seller never mentions the RA feature makes it doubtful. Just out of curiosity, I sent the seller a question regarding it.
That being said, it's a no reserve auction and has the RA stuff present. As of now, just on face value the price isn't bad in my opinion. |
Running the numbers on the Volo car first. If I cant buy it right, will focus on the Blue 69 and try to buy it right. If all else fails ill just wait, or buy a 74 401 Matador coupe that some guy in Kansas wants 9 grand for. Now thats scary!
|
Got a response from the seller on the blue '69 in regard to the RA status.
Quote- "I think that may have been added". That tells me that it was added. Still could be a decent driver with the RA addition and for the price it's sitting at right now. |
They are both nice looking. Personally I would inspect both cars or find someone you trust to look at them if you can't. Both seem to have things wrong, like the shifter in the 69,PWR window switches and passenger side mirror on the 68. Both have little cosmetic issues which just let's you be able to have fun working on it. It really depends what you are buying the car for. If it is an investment I would tend to go for the 68 and see if you can't get it for the mid to high 20's. If it is just a driver I would go with the 69. I like the colors of the 68, I think they make the car stand out. See if there is one of the members that lives close to the cars and see if they would look at it for you. If you find one in TN don't hesitate to shoot me a PM and I would be glad to look at it for you. Good luck!!
|
I agree. Both are very nice looking cars. Personal inspection is the key when spending that type of money. At the very least, a real in depth conversation and tons of pics from the seller. The gold with tuxedo interior is striking on the '68.
|
There is a real nice 68 April Gold GTO in this months HPP. I like the Volvo one better, I think the parchment interior looks better that the black. Both are nice though.
