Mike Nixon's family needs our help! UPDATED with address and PayPal

Mike went in for a routine surgery, once opened up they found he had stage IV colon cancer, and that it had spread to his lungs. There were no indications or anything out of the ordinary, until the surgery.

Mike is in the hospital, Ball Memorial, I'll work on an address.

They are already working on hospice for Mike, and the Doctors are giving him less than two months... :(

Mike has spent 17+ years here on PY helping anyone he could with tech answers and performing his moderator duties. He's also spent a considerable amount of time with the POCI over the past few years as well, now its time for us to give back and help out a Pontiac Brother in his time of need.

Mike has three young sons and no life insurance and is worried about leaving his kids in debt with his funeral expenses. I'll post an address tomorrow and see if there is a PayPal account to make things easier to help Mikes kids. Mike has been one of my best friends for the past 20 years, I'm shocked, saddened with a heavy heart and at a loss for words so please excuse me if this doesn't make any sense.

Please, give what you can, everything helps.

PayPal account was set up by Don Keefe (Thanks Don!)

Thank you!

Mike, we love you Brother!

Drag Star Le Mans 03-15-2014 04:00 AM

Sad to hear this. So much going on here with other members, this scares the hell out of me. Everybody needs to go see the doctor no matter how you feel.

60man 03-15-2014 05:49 AM

Oh good Lord. I hate to hear this David.
By all means post a account up.
He and family are in my prayers..

400 4spd. 03-15-2014 06:09 AM

David, I am so very, very sorry to read this news.
Please let people know where checks can be sent in case PayPal isn't an option.

This hurts. I don't know what else to say right now.

70gp 03-15-2014 07:11 AM

Very, very sad news indeed. I don`t know Mike, except from his presence here on PY, but he was always very helpful and never condecending to anyone that I saw. I will say a prayer for him and his family.

The Boss 03-15-2014 07:25 AM

****! Seriously?

I'm at a loss for words! Prayers sent hoping for a miracle here as in all cases here but losing faith they happen any more.

Cerberus 03-15-2014 07:29 AM

Prayers sent for Mike and his family. I'm making my colonoscopy appointment Monday. Let us know when the PayPal information is available.

tigergto 03-15-2014 07:43 AM

Just heartbreaking. When it happens to us older fellows sad but we know our time is getting closer. Mike is obviously a younger man with young children. Paypal or address, I would like to send a donation.

Deadhead 03-15-2014 08:05 AM

Whoa! Unbelievable.

I just went and saw him recently. Seemed as normal as he gets.

We are praying for you and yours buddy!

This news flattened my heart when I heard it. We are all taking it one day at a time. I know Mike will put up a good fight.

carguy66cars 03-15-2014 08:43 AM

David, Very sorry to hear this and hope things aren't as bad as it sounds!

Lyn.

Steve Hoog 03-15-2014 08:47 AM

Before my surgery; they gave me three weeks. My doctor opened me up and freaked out; but he went at it. I was in surgery three times as long as normal with him trying to get everything he could with the surgery.

I sure hope Mike's doctors are wrong and he can limp along like me.

wreckmastr 03-15-2014 08:49 AM

Damn this just plain sucks! Mike is a class act. Prayers sent from me and my family. :(

goatless 03-15-2014 09:14 AM

Damn Mike! I just don't know what to say. :( We're pulling for you, buddy.

My first time meeting Mike - he became one of my favorites. He helped me go to look at a Firebird up in nowhere Indiana. Gave me relationship advice which led to Rob and I finally getting hitched... he's a great guy. Here's his mug shot... and one of me with Tray when we went up to see that Firebird...

Firedup6975 03-15-2014 09:30 AM

I'm speechless, and saddened by this news. :( My thoughts and prayers are with Mike and his Family.

He gave a whole another meaning to......... Sticky Bunns :) Hang on Mike, fight the good fight, miracles do happen. Anything Mike, Miranda, or I can do, please do not hesitate to contact us or have a family member contact us.....

Don Keefe 03-15-2014 09:32 AM

Mike has given a lot to the Pontiac world, it's time we show our appreciation. I hope we can get the donations going soon.

David Holmberg 03-15-2014 09:43 AM

Rustie I know how close you and Mike are, I'm so sorry.

Steve Hoog, you've be an inspiration to many! We're seeing way too much of this and honestly it scares the h*ll out of me. I'm praying for you everyday!

Thank you to everyone, your help and prayers mean more than you know. Mike probably won't post, but he will read, or be read, your words of encouragement.

Thanks again!

Thoughts and Prayers going out to Mike and his Family.

PonchoV8 03-15-2014 10:10 AM

Fck! Mike, you are never unappreciated on this forum by anyone who matters. You're one of my favorites.

Steve Hoog 03-15-2014 10:38 AM

Donations are nice but don't really put a dent in the medical.

Love is the better gift; those close helping family out with food and taking care of the house, assuming he has a wife and kids like me.

Just like Mike, I had no clue what was going on inside of me. No pain, and the only sign was a spot of blood in my stool.

David, thank you.

Old Blue 66 03-15-2014 10:40 AM

Its hard to find better people than Mike.

Im speechless. Set up that account I'm in.

thepontiacman 03-15-2014 10:50 AM

Don Keefe 03-15-2014 11:30 AM

A fund has been set up, via PayPal. Send your money to:

[email protected]

Please donate what you can. Thank You!

Don Keefe 03-15-2014 11:31 AM

Go to PayPal.com first and then send money to the above account name. The link just sends an email to that account, so ignore it.

AROWHED 03-15-2014 11:37 AM

Now here's a guy that simply does not deserve this...but at the same time is one tough SOB and I sure as heck hope and pray he can beat it. We fellow Pontiacers, and specifically us B Body guys, need him in our corner.

A.W.Dille 03-15-2014 11:42 AM

Don, if a person doesn't have a paypal account how else could one send anything to help? This is really bad as I've been reading Mike's posts for years. I hate hearing this as this in some ways hits home with me as my stepmother and an uncle are fighting cancer and it's doubtful my stepmother will make it the next six months.
Prayers coming from the Tarheel state for Mike and his family from my wife and I. Good luck Mike.

Bob Dillon 03-15-2014 11:46 AM

Ladies and gentlemen,

Prayers are nice and I'm sure they're welcome, but they won't pay the bills for the extraordinary extra expenses Mike and his family will now experience.

Step up to the plate. We, as PYers, have a long history of being generous to members in trouble or need. Your donation will continue that proud legacy.

carcrazy 03-15-2014 11:55 AM

Sad beyond belief.

Jagtec1 03-15-2014 12:03 PM

Just sent $100. Mike is a great guy...I'm happy to help him and his family in this difficult time.

Don Keefe 03-15-2014 12:04 PM

I sent $100 also.

adam woodmancy 03-15-2014 12:09 PM

Very sad... You and your family are in my prayers mike.

Don Keefe 03-15-2014 12:13 PM

I guess the best thing would be to send them directly to him. His address is on the last page of Smoke Signals under the directors.

I'm on the same page here, unfortunately. I'll need to know how else to send funds. Reading the original post kind of flattened me, as I just lost my lifetime best pal to colon cancer this New Years Eve. I've never met Mike, but back when I was a new member to this site, we had a few late night talks in the old chat room. In the course of our chats, he gave me some much needed insights into a few personal things I was going through at the time. I've thought of him as a friend ever since. Mike, you are a great man!

Old Man Taylor 03-15-2014 12:21 PM

I'm in for $100. Best of luck to Mike and his family.

I knew you'd be along directly, Jim. You're a prince of a guy. We need to meet up some day so I can shake your hand.

David Holmberg 03-15-2014 12:50 PM

Mikes address is in the first post of this thread. Mike worked from home, and that was the address he wanted to use for mail.

Thanks!

David posted Mikes address in the first post in the thread. Prayers are helpful, thoughts are appreciated, but there are immediate financial needs that must be dealt with. Thanks to everyone who cares enough to send something. Kurt :(

carcrazy 03-15-2014 01:01 PM

$100 sent via Paypal.

Me too.

David Holmberg 03-15-2014 01:16 PM

Just talked with Mike, he's been in the hospital since 2/28 and being self employed there has been no income. He's worried about paying the rent for his kids when he should be saving his energy for himself...
