what will my old worn out eheaded engine make NA

Have a date set to dyno on april 2.

Changes
Ports are .220 wider pretty much all the way
slight increase in valve size to 2.275 from 2.25
intake valve switched to ti
intake swap from a real nice victor to an even nicer massaged bop. Much larger
maybe .4 to .5 of a point more compression
belt drive

The rest is the same as last year what say you?

BTW a note to johnta1 and Stan....please try and think through your responses before you post. I know its hard and you really want me to slow down or somehow fail. But to keep this thread clean understand in advance that 1300,1200,1100 and likely 1050hp are not likely lifting the valve .780 with a bracket set up. Additionally it will be tempting to say 850, but that will only make you look bad. If you truly are interested and have additional questions I will respectfully answer them. If not flame away.

Same dyno as last yr? Last yrs dyno # and peak rpm? Track reflected Wht hp number? I already have a guess :)

v869tr6 03-30-2014 09:59 AM

Old and worn out?? What did you do take it to Dragweek! LOL

slowbird 03-30-2014 10:05 AM

1100+ using Johnta1 and Stan's methods :)

LiL Jack 03-30-2014 10:23 AM

My guess is 1025 HP.

EHTTFMF!

GTOGEORGE 03-30-2014 10:23 AM

WOW, mike your camshaft in your engine is way BIGGER then my BRACKET RACE cam! Another high dollar engine.

No. I'm going to BES. The dyno session last year was called due to issues. basically we could not get the fuel curve where it needed to be. Where I dynoed last year they are an efi shop so i had to bring my pump and regulator. turned out it was my regulator that was not up to par. when i switched the regulator in the car it picked up 2 tenths. Anyway the we stopped at 971 @7600 peak.

through a reliable source im told tony's dyno and scorpion racings dyno are VERY close. when i dynoed at scorpion last year it made 968 on the first hit with some room in the tune up but not 1000hp worth of room. We felt that it would stop at 988-995. and the car slide rules at 1000hp in 2000ft air. using other calculators it shows 1038 which is pure nonsense. I'm pretty comfortable saying it was VERY close to 1000 if not 1k.

That all said there are many that claim the BES dyno 40 tight. who knows. I'm going there for the expertise on the bes staff and not the highest number printed on paper possible. If I were I would seek out a known loose dyno.

Did i forget to include you in the disclaimer and hurt your feelings? LOL!

FYI George that big thingy with 2 dominators on it sitting on top of your engine is an AIR COMPRESSOR. That is the thingy that makes your HP, which is not much if at all more than i made last year. But thanks for your useful comment anyway.

Since you do not post with your real name I do not know if you have my software or not. I would guess NOT. So how would you know what my method is? Help me out here and tell me what VE at what RPM should I use? Or what should I use for the mass air flow at what inlet temperature and barometric pressure? Thanks for the needed input data.

Do not know about the "Tight Deal" Dyno but Tony told me when I was there that the newer version of the Superflow Dyno they now use reads about 40 HP lower vs the old version Superflow Dyno. (My visit was a couple of years ago).

That being said, what ever the number is that Tony's Dyno prints, I would say is a good number (in the dyno racing game).

I will say 1064 HP.

Tom Vaught

ps Roots style Superchargers are "Displacement" devices. They displace a given volume per revolution. So they are basically a "Governor" for airflow into the engine.
You run a supercharger of a given displacement per revolution at a given speed and depending on the density of the outside air, you get a given mass flow (horsepower).
As long as George never changes the blower rpm, the mass flow will stay in a given range. So the reported Boost Number means little vs the HP output.
Pressure Ratio (Boost) will change vs the engine displacement the supercharger is attached to but the mass flow into the engine sets the HP potential.

Aaron Quinton 03-30-2014 12:06 PM

1000-1050 hp should be reasonable. It's hard to say what it will make without more details on the intake areas. The bigger intake valve should help when saddled with the .780" lift cam. Good luck man!

john marcella 03-30-2014 12:36 PM

1018-1021

mysticmissle 03-30-2014 03:43 PM

I'm guessing 1030 @ 8100 rpm that intake is going to move it up at least that much.

LiL Jack 03-30-2014 04:18 PM

I've got a $100 says George takes that extra lung off his car and puts on a single four barrel on with a Victor, Mike would skull drag him down the track!

Just sayn

BruceWilkie 03-30-2014 07:18 PM

Other posts indicate you may be trying to make sure to exceed 1000... got a feelin you'll cover that... for now I think you stay under 1030. This dyno session steers you to what changes are needed to better KK's ol' 499 track power. More interesting to me will be how it reacts to new intake... and carries power.

BW's wag method says 1015 +/- 1.5% corrected if the dyno isnt on top of a mountain in the middle of a thunderstorm.

.780 is net lift?? You bein stingy or Scott provin his stuff? I like the idea.

1051

good luck mike. I'm guessing 1020 to 1025.

tell uncle tony you want the east coast air that day.

mike leech 03-31-2014 12:20 AM

I'm just moving into the I hope it stays together mode. I think worst case 999 best case 1030.

If all goes well after a pull or two I'll be riding that thing like a pony trying to squeeze it all out.

R 70 Judge 03-31-2014 12:48 AM

1031hp is my guess. Good luck!

1023, Good Luck

What time is your session onWednesday? BES is less than 20 minutes from me, all scenic Indiana back roads. I can take you to Jim Zeeks favorite Greasy spoon for breakfast. :yum: :jumping:

Been there! It'll be fine, good luck Mike

GTO Dan 03-31-2014 08:44 AM

Based on the fact that DYNO is known as being conservative and you already squeeze a lot out of your engine and it is very efficient, I think it will make right around 1,000; give or take a few house power.

Good luck and try to have fun.

67Beast 03-31-2014 09:34 AM

Just figured I'd throw my 2cents in. 999 just to not spoil you. Tell Rich to stand on it when you make your pulls!

no the gross lobe lift is a .485 x 1.75 rocker=.848 - .024 lash=.824 lift- static defection =about .780 on the intake. ex is a .471 lobe.

That cam is a pussy cat cam. but it made great power last year and the valve train was very stable AND it made great power. For a while there I was going out the back door at 8600 with STEEL intake valves!

All that said we feel it may make more with a cam change. I went so far as to buy a couple suitable cores for grinding. But with all the other changes we decided this will be a constant, close, and a good starting.Everything looked great and the springs still checked good after being ran the whole season and that has some value. We are gonna let the engine talk to us and go from there

You coming in Tuesday night or driving in bright and early Wednesday morning? Only place to eat by BES is Blimpies in the gas station by 74. You have to drive either backroads into Bright for McDonalds, mexican joint (awesome), Skyline Chili and/or a couple of pizza places, or drive 15 miles down Hwy 1 to Lawrenceburg for everything under the sun. Let me know your plans and maybe hook up.

mike leech 03-31-2014 11:54 AM

shoot me a pm with your number. We are leaving at 330am tuesday and heading down. you are welcome to stop by or maybe lunch...

Mike Davis 03-31-2014 09:14 PM

1002.....on Uncle Tony's Dyno.

60man 03-31-2014 09:29 PM

Whatever it is Mike......good luck....and stay together..;)

Say .....1,043 HP...:D

quick67bird 03-31-2014 09:32 PM

I will say 1011. Whatever you make on the dyno is not relevant as you always seem to ring all the HP out of your combo when you put it in you car.

Half-Inch Stud 03-31-2014 09:35 PM

Ran darn great at norwalk as-is.

Now featuring +0.2" wided intake runners !? & bigger inhale valves. OMG could go up, yet equally could go down depending on cam match. That'sa what i'm thinking.

Can/do you fine adjust the cam time with a BOP belt?

However it goes, good luck: slow and steady wins the dyno pull. think through the tweaks&tunes. Yea keep it together.

mjm421 03-31-2014 09:48 PM

Michael, I'm going 1019 on the dyno. The track will show 1041. Good luck brotha!!!

Probird 04-01-2014 12:00 AM

I'll say 1047. Good luck Mike!

Batman 04-01-2014 12:33 AM

I keyed everything into the Batcomputer and it spit out a punchcard that said:

Chris Uratchko 04-01-2014 07:54 AM

I say there's 15 peak hp in the manifold over the other one. And more localized area in the ports I say it will hold on to VE a little better upstairs which should equate to some peak numbers, or maybe everywhere... should be interesting.

If you try a big carb it will net you 10+. The oil I gave you spit out 24 over break in oil which is still hard for me to believe but, it is what it is. Highly doubt I can make a case of that.

I say, 1035 with the big carb, good oil, and if you get after the fuel... the more you get after the fuel the more power it will make upstairs. Ain't no reason it shouldn't.

Oil Temp wants to be 115-125.

Chris Uratchko 04-01-2014 08:01 AM

I've never been conservative in my guesstimates. This is 2014 for cryin out loud, I'm claiming 1050.... BAM!

Hurry up and finish so you can get back to the important stuff. Like my basement.

mike leech 04-01-2014 09:08 AM

I fell like a carb hoarder....we are taking 4 with us. Special thanks to the guys that lent me a couple very nice carbs. I'll be gentle and they will be back soon.

You really need to upgrade the "Bat Computer". You can not trust punched cards. Now paper tape is the way to go.

Your calculator (or any computer for that matter) started life as a "punch card".:D

LiL Jack 04-01-2014 12:16 PM

Is Tonys dyno still 30 HP tight? Or did he have it adjust? This was over a year ago that he told me this.

Not to get to far off topic but many many years ago I actualy ran card sorters and wired boards for machines that process punched cards. :) I lived some of that history. ;)
