Finally getting close
 

Finally, it's getting very, very close. I wish I'd kept a chronological log of my journey with this car but they are scattered all over the forum. Mostly in the Body Shop.
Anyway, here's where it is today. Got all that MUD off and it makes a world of difference! By tomorrow, it'll be closer and I'll post more... I actually have the hideaways and grilles installed but didn't take pics..

Greg, looks GREAT! - I hadn't realized you hadn't finished the car. I was off PY for a couple of years and just assumed somehow that you'd finished the car already. man, all I remember is that swiss cheese roof that you tackled!

is that black or a dark blue on the vinyl roof?

Thanks guys..I'm pleased with the way it's turning out... and I'm glad to see the opinions on the poverty caps. I was on the fence about them until I washed the car...then suddenly, I started liking them again.

Dennis, the top is black. The color scheme is the factory scheme. It's the only car I've seen with the Turquoise paint, black top and turquoise interior. Every other K2 car I've seen had a black interior.

Andretti, lol at the garage comment but it's a good thing I didn't raise the other door..lol

I love the stance with the dog dish hubcaps and the dumps out the back - it looks tough.

That looks real nice, and clean - wish I could keep mine that way. I am so slow that everything gets a nice coating of dust on it.

You have a new tank on yours? Looks like the filler neck actually comes out in the right spot on yours - how'd you do that?

As for the dust, if you look closely, you can see a fine coat of pollen on the last pic. It just started yesterday and we'll be in for a crapload of the stuff over the next few weeks.
Also, the trunk and interior or still LOADED with sanding dust, pinestraw and etc. I wanna clean all that before I add the bumper and of course, install the interior.

quit teasing and get the back bumper on there! You're in the fun part of the resto now, just assembling. Man I hate doing the bodywork which is where I'm stalled at with the 67.

I hear you on the rally's....got bored with them myself, that's why I wasted a ton of money replacing the 14" rally's on my 71 that had less than 50 miles on new rubber with a set of 15" honeycombs I had to have. I've got the rally's set aside for now. Wish I would have kept the original steelies but 20 years ago they were "winter tire" rims and they all went out to the trash during one of the garage cleanups!

I kinda lucked into those 15" steelies. I bought a '78 Bonneville as my son's first car. Like all first cars, it was driven into the ground. When I sold it, it was under the condition that I would keep the steel wheels and the Cooper Cobras.
I'm ashamed to say that I didn't do a thing today... :o ...except yard work. :(

What size tires are those? They look just right.

They're 215/70-15 if I recall correctly from a previous thread.

Correct, as usual Bart. Again, they were originally bought for a '78 Bonnie but I liked them on my ride so I kept them. They could be a little wider for me but they'll do for me as long as they last.

Great looking Goat. You have to feel good when you look at it now and remember what it looked like when you started. Man, that roof would have scared me to death. What is the color? Mine is Alpine Blue and yours looks like that also, but I seem to recall that it is another shade of blue.

By the way Mike, it is Meridian Turquoise. I'd say 50% call it 'green' when they see it and 50% call it 'blue'.

yes, the fuzzies first before the glass gets installed. Technically you can do it with the glass in but you need to drop it off the track so the glass drops all the way into the door so you can get the strip clips to clear the angle to get them in/out of the holes.

I actually got one from the other Dennis..the one that did my paint...but when I got it home, I saw that it was configured differently than mine. I confirmed it was the wrong one with the Fischer manual.

Greg, I ran upon a decent used right door off a 68 LeMans last week and bought it. I have not looked at it real close yet, but for 100.00 bucks for a complete door , it didn't matter. I needed the vent window, hinges, outside handle and a few other parts. If you need a right side door glass, I may can help you out. Mike

I appreciate the offer Mike but I need the driver's side. The guy that painted my car gave me one but at this point, I'm not sure if he gave me the wrong one or I just picked up the wrong one out of a pile of other stuff. I may try to go down tomorrow to verify. It's kinda holding me up as I'm at the point where I'm about ready to do the interior but I'd like to do the glass swap first.

Looking good! MT is a great color; I was going with that color for my 68 'vert until the last minute switch to Nordic Blue.

Do you think your car might be ready for the May 2 Atl show? I am still planning to make it this time and hopefully my job won't get in the way that weekend. I wanted to get a new top for my car before then but been out of town on business every week for the past month. Crossing my fingers and hoping for dry weather this year...

Having watched through the whole process I really want a first-hand look!

I was planning on making it there with the car...but I don't know. I really would like to get the interior done and I don't even have it yet! I pretty much have the outside done. Bumper is on, lights all work, trunk is clean ,etc.
I have a job interview coming up this month too...so I dunno what's going to happen there either. This month is flying by!

Thanks GW. It is still coming along but I'm being held up waiting for some interior parts. I'm realizing in light of the new paint that some of the parts I was going to re-use just aren't any longer up to snuff.
