Old Horror Movies - So Bad They are Good

On a whim I picked up a $5 DVD set from the bargain bin called "12 Creature Features". My daughter and I are laughing our way though a few of them. "Land of the Minotaur", The Creeping Terror", "Horror High" and more. A plethora of C and D movies. Some fine fine movies!

Post up your favorite titles.

I had exactly the same reaction to that one. I don't know why but that one gave me nightmares. I can't think of another one that scared me so much. I think because it's slimy and nasty looking.
As for the 'so bad it's good' category...Of course, the grandaddy of all bad movies..."Plan 9 from Outer Space". Absolutely hilarious.

PonchoV8 04-25-2014 09:59 PM

I think we saw The Blob at the drive-in in Florida when I was about 5-6. It was relentless. How about lighting some of those green spiral mosquito repellent things for old time sake...and driving off with the window speaker still on the car.

I remember The Creature From the Black Lagoon stuck with us for decades.
ETA: And who could forget The Fly?

mechanickeith 04-25-2014 10:01 PM

I was 6 or 7, late night movie called "The crawling Eye"" Had nightmares for years!!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052320/?ref_=nv_sr_1

marxjunk 04-25-2014 10:10 PM

the fly was good....

the black lagoon never did much for me.....it looked like a swimming pool scene

SSSSSSSSSSSS scared me too.....really scared me....

fiedlerh 04-25-2014 10:21 PM

The 1960 movie The Time Machine scared the crap out of me when I was little. Mainly the underground zombies and the sirens.

zeebo 04-25-2014 11:26 PM

in detroit, on saturday afternoons IIRC, there was first a horror movie shown on ch50, then the creature feature at 3 or 3:30pm...totally awesome..love the old hammer horror movies with christopher lee and peter cushing! remember "horror express"? and the movie with the turtles with elongated necks that fell out of trees on people??

Greg Reid 04-26-2014 12:00 AM

I just remembered another one that scared me....'The Hand' (The Beast with Five Fingers actually) with Peter Lorre.

marxjunk 04-26-2014 12:22 AM

what was that weird vampire soap opera?....the dude with the eyes that almost vibrated side to side....it wasnt really scary..it was just weird...

I have been watching svengoolie lately he in the Syracuse NY area and the only thing about the chicken hater is the fun facts he tells about the movies and actors.
after all these years I didn't realize that in the Bride of Frankystien the lady in the beginning of the movie was also the charactor the bride.

Cannibal girls, from back in the late 50's early 60's. they ate only men.

Use to stay up late for the Goulardy show. Always a crappy movie but you didn't watch the show for the movie.

tigergto 04-26-2014 07:50 AM

I remember seeing The Blob at our neighbor hood theater. Don't have those anymore.
.75 covered the price of admission, double feature and snacks. Anyhow of all the horror movies The Blob is the one I remember best after all these years. Had trouble sleeping for a few nights after watching it.

Half-Inch Stud 04-26-2014 08:27 AM

titles? naw;

Artic movie featuring an attack plant. Of course it attacks the generator so it is intelligent.

Top shelf: 3 Stooges in the haunted mansion.

Radman 04-26-2014 08:35 AM

I remember the Time Machine movie. That one I thought was good. The one that scared me as a kid was "Them". The movie was radiation altered ants that were 10 ft tall. For some reason I spent the rest of that summer killing ants.

Trivia: that was James Arness as the plant. He was later to become Matt Dillon, U.S. Marshal on "Gunsmoke."

How about "Plan 9 from outer space?" Alleged to be the worst movie ever.

Or "Earth vs. The Flying Saucers?"

Or "Them?"

PonchoV8 04-26-2014 10:40 AM

Danny Regan sent me a copy of one that was terrible and funny, but only from 1991.

The Dark Backward. Oh, it's awful. I love making people watch it. Nobody will stick through it.

1969GTO 04-26-2014 10:51 AM

I was a teenage warewolf.

Less we forget ELVIRA?

That's the one I mentioned as THE movie if you want to talk about 'so bad they are good'. I don't care how many times you've seen it, it's still funny.

You nailed it: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6iu1fnYh-U0 Thing from another world
Definitely a pass the popcorn movie for a Drive-In date experience.

The theater where The Blob was filmed is about 20 minutes from me. Every year they put on Blobfest and recreate the scene where everyone is running out of the theater screaming. Of course they also have several showings of the movie. It's a total hoot! http://thecolonialtheatre.com/category/events/blobfest/

Icefan71 04-26-2014 11:14 PM

"It Came From Beneath The Sea" was on tonight. I watched the last 30 minutes of it with my kids. They were laughing so hard watching the claymation like special effects.

1969GTO 04-26-2014 11:19 PM

your kids want to see something funny, the old Godzilla movies.

marxjunk 04-26-2014 11:47 PM

jason and the argonauts ...theres some claymation..real bad..but was wondrous when i was a kid

1969GTO 04-26-2014 11:49 PM

marxjunk 04-26-2014 11:59 PM

yep

limejudge69 04-27-2014 09:25 AM

I enjoy Mystery Science Theater 3000. It shows a lot of the cheesy black and white sci-fi stuff and the commentary is priceless.

They laugh even harder at those movies. The combo of bad special effects and Japanese to English dubbing gets them every time.
