Bad news for Pontiac fans
 

I don't have all the facts yet, but it seems HPP is being discontinued. They dropped a lot of titles today at the publisher, from what I've seen on Facebook. Certainly by the next 24 hours we'll know more.

That was about the only magazine I subscribe to anymore. That sucks bad! :(

I've read in Hot Rod about shake ups there, which HPP is a part of that group...yee ha not surprised. Wonder how they are going to refund my recent 3 year subscription???...LOL

Maybe that's why Tom DeMauro jumped ship a short while back, he maybe saw the handwriting on the wall????

My subscription just expired this month! they still were sending me renew offers :rolleyes: but I didn't re-up.

It's absolutely true.

It came out of nowhere to those working for or with HPP. We found out this morning that the Editor was let go and by noon we were told the title was dead.

As I understand Time magazine pulled the plug on SORC's distribution side causing a ripple effect in the pond. HPP was one of the titles that sunk.

Since the days it was Thunder Am, HPP had a great 35 year run!

OMGYOUDIDNTJUSTSAYTHAT!

A sad day for me, as I have been affiliated with the magazine for most of my adult life- I started there in 1988. I feel terrible for Chris Phillip. He was really doing a great job and his supervisors had commended him on his performance earlier this week. Now he is unemployed. Beautiful...

I just phoned HPP customer service, talked to a customer rep name Tracy, who says she knows absolutely nothing about this, that's really poor handling of the situation

Corporate America, in a nutshell, I'm so SICK of....

The Internet is faster than internal memos, never mind the fact that it's possible customer service is a contract company.

Will the HPP website continue? As a 30 plus year fan of HPP, (and buyer of ANY car magazine featuring the Traditional Pontiac V8), this is TRULY BAD NEWS!!!

This just sucks! HPP is the only mag I look forward to receiving.

I believe HPP will be folded into Hot Rod magazine, so I'd put money that the online resources will continue. They'd be terribly dumb not to do that, although it all comes down to money so who knows?

SUCKS!! I let my HPP subscription run out, but I still buy it off the magazine rack. HPP, Musclecar Review, PHR are what I read. Hot Rod and Car Craft - no thanks.

Hot Rod is doing some neat stuff. The current issue has a huge Pontiac article done by Don Keefe.

Am I the only one here with the "oh well" attitude? I mean I am a subscriber but that magazine gave me about 15 min of entertainment each issue, at best.
Kind of like The Legend, what a joke. Yes the were, are Pontiac only, but talk about lackluster.
Anyway, kind of like killing off Pontiac, who cares.

I care,like others that just re-upped there subscription.
And I don't want my credit sent to some other mag,if I wanted that other mag I would have subscribed to it.

I get more from these forums in one evening then I got from one of the HPP magazines. Check that, make it in a hour.

I dropped HPP several years ago because content seemed to be lacking, and appeared to be struggling to bring in new and different cars. You can only give the history of the GTO so many times. I do now subscribe to Hod Rod which has almost give away prices on the magazine subscriptions, and they are doing some great stories on all different kind of cars. I also love the Road Kill series they do on your tube as well.

we'll get a letter with what ever sh%t mag/rag they allow us to read and be greatfull for till our subscription ends.

So now we will wind up with a life time subscription to Camaro Craft.

I subsrcibed from 1990-2006. I don't really miss it since we have the internet to feed our senses.
It seemed like overkill when they went to monthly issues. That, and it was watered down with post PMD V-8 era cars.

See my sig and article from HPP on my experience with HPP. This is awfull for the hobby. If you think this is just a ho-hum issue you are mistaken. Per my car being in HPP I own every mag from 1986-90 (I think)Per article, I got the fever back in 1997 and have every mag since then. An absolute wealth of knowledge contained in the publication. Are some issues not as good as others ? Yes. It's nice when your working in the garage and need info on a GTO brake upgrade article or how to change front control arm bushings on a TA (Thanks Rocky Rotella) that you can dig through a box and find a pertinent article with pic's. Much info about Ponchos on the Web but not like the mag. A truly sad day indeed.

I just renewed HPP for 2 years. I'm probably SOL.
When Pontiac Enthusiast folded, I believe subscribers lost their money and got nothing.
The Internet has made many printed publications obsolete.

Well this royally sucks. I just completed working with Chris Phillip, a photographer out of Orlando, and a writer out of Brooksville to do an upcoming feature on my El Clasico Hurst SSJ...

Do these things just get lost in the shuffle?

Harvey, from what I was told today, any story not in the issue currently at the printer is dead. I had a few in cue too.

Sad day indeed. I get my subscription through Zino Publishing, which luckily has nearly lapsed. I feel for those who've just re-subscribed. :mad::(:mad:

Pretty funny really, most only care about their wallets, not so much the magizine.

A sad day indeed. Rocky, Don, Chris, Tom and everyone else who worked on and contributed to HPP did an excellent job and produced a first rate magazine. I have every issue including the original Thunder Ams. I've heard a lot of people bash HPP over the years and I have always been quick to defend it. I believe if you stacked it up against any other print magazine out there the quality of the publication spoke for itself. And, unfortunately for us Pontiac fans, it was the only game in town.

While I have known for some time that print media is a dying breed, I was hoping that HPP would hold on for quite a few more years. I like the feel of a real magazine in my hand when reading an article. Now, I'll have to sift through what is left in the print market and hope they publish some Pontiac stuff every now and then.

Looks like most automotive magazines are living like the Queen Song "Another One Bites the Dust". However, I still see many of the junk magazines that seem to have articles that talk about that over-exposed family that rhymes with trashdarians. Sad that it has come down to it.
Would you believe I have been a High Performance Pontiac subscriber since 1997? I was barely a senior in high school, where I obtained the 1970 LeMans that once belonged to my Mother. It has been in the family since 1976 (two years before I was born). I was brought home in a baby carriage in that car. So I do have memories in it. Now the memories are bringing the car almost back from the dead when I inherited it. I even got a color for it (Atoll Blue, which is an original color for 1970, since I wasn't too fond of Polar White, and that it looked like a school-district car). Will be sad to see it go. As many members said, I had subscribed to a year (at least that only). All I hope is that it is another automotive magazine, and not something like Surfer Magazine, Rolling Stones, or Vogue. Those three have junk I don't give a rat's a** about at all. Reminds me of when Pontiac Enthuiast morphed into a bunch of magazine (let that one run out in the end). May do that with whatever magazine I'll end up getting. As you say, a possibility it could be online. Hopefully it can be. If not, then I will be thinning my magazine subscriptions.

And here I thought that since they were the last Pontiac mag left, they had the corner of the market. Sorta felt like it would be around for a long time and had staying power. Guess that's not true.

I always liked HPP and I'll miss it. It's the only magazine I subscribe too. To all the contributors that post here, you guys did a great job.

Funny, I've been pretty busy over the last few months and have about three issues that I haven't even opened yet. I better take my time reading the last of the breed.
