Early '70's pristine radiatior fan shroud
Hi, I'm looking for a pristine one piece radiator fan shroud for my '72 Trans Am 'Adrian'. An original without the square hole on the passenger side and one piece at the bottom.
Please contact Greg with pictures and pricing at: [email protected] 210-326-6503 |
They wrote a song about this type of quest," Dreamer" is the title and was written back in the 70's.Kinda a funny if you think about it :)
Good Luck Greg and if anything comes to mind I'll give you a call. Brew |
TOYSWEDO had an NOS one. Not sure if he still has it but it was really nice.

NEVER HAD ONE.. NEVER SAW ONE.... DON'T KNOW WHAT ITS WORTH.... DON'T HAVE A PRICE.

That part number was the formula part number. Not the TA part number. may be different for 72's, but I know 70-71 this is true..don't really know what the difference is, but the part number is definitely not a TA number.

If Greg and Brew don't take it I will for my Formula!

NOS PART
I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY ALL THE T/A GURU'S...
CORRECT T/A PART. EVERYONE PLEASE MAKE YOU OWN DECISION! |

I am not trying to slam your shroud, I think it is worth every bit of $500, but it is not a TA shroud. It is correct for Formula 350 and Formula 400 non HD option. funny that TA guru's said it was correct, shows how quickly the term "guru" gets thrown around. Here is the Pontiac sheet showing the TA part number is 479086 for use with the FP or FS radiator. the 478114 shroud is for the skinner radiators from 1.26"-2" wide, the 479086 shroud is for the larger RA or HO or HD option 2.70" wide radiator. Exterior looks the same, but the part number is incorrect.. I sort of like the assembly manual "guru" when deciding what is correct..

From what I have seen, the 3-core and 4-core radiators had different size driver's side tanks that required the different fan shrouds. I don't believe it is a TA vs non-TA thing as not all TAs came with 4-core radiators. Likewise, other V8 birds could have come with a 4-core, esp if they had A/C. As Bill points out above, Toyswedo's shroud is the version for the 3-core.

I haven't been able to get the seller of the NOS part to tell me what he wants for it. I don't know if anyone else has contacted him, but I've thrown some numbers at him well north of 70RAIII's estimate, and his response is "thanks for the offer but I think it will bring much more". I'm not sure if I'm supposed to keep lobbing numbers over the fence until I get a note saying that's the number but I'm not interested in playing games.
Good luck to the others interested in the part. Let me know if ya'll have better luck than I. Meanwhile, I'm still looking for a pristine shroud. Thanks all. |
Well.. there is a member of this board who should be quite happy with his purchase from me last month. I sold a NOS TA shroud for $500. Has the overflow hose clip broken, but was NOS,still had a pull tag on it..
And the 479086 is without a doubt the TA shroud. someone said it wasn't TA specific, well FS and FP radiators are the only radiators assigned to TA's, and the '086 is only for these two codes, hence a TA shroud. 165 PM me. I have two more, may sell one for your car.. pretty special car.. deserves the right number on it.. |

Could the service manual not be accurate and somehow my car got a correct original 3-core shroud with it, sure, anything as possible. It would be interesting to hear from people with original cars that can verify this issue one way or the other. |

why state you don't have a price when you have one all along ? good decision to move on.... |
the 3 core radiators that I have seen on TA's have had the larger FP tanks on the side, I really think the FP FS designation is the tanks not the core ..
and I agree with others, funny "no idea on price" now has a price. if 165 offered him more than $500, the seller was getting a fair price.. funny funny funny.. |

If you will re read my post, you will see I said FS and FP radiators are assigned the '086 shroud.TA only came with the FP or FS radiator, hence '086 is a TA shroud. Your espirit had HD cooling, which I listed in one of my initial posts that the '086 would be supplied if HD radiator was an option. Again, the other shroud is for the 350 or base non RA 400 engines w/o HD cooling. I am pretty sure the tanks on the FP,FS radiators are larger than tanks on the standard 3 row radiators. Eitherway doesn't matter.. I think we have hashed this out to its end.. the pdf file I attached shows all anyone will need to know what is correct.

Should my 71 stick, TA, non ac, 342 rear, have a 3 or 4 core? I need a rad, if anyone can help, and a 8436 starter. I have a 086 shroud. Is that correct?

What date coded 8436 were you looking for? |

Does your radiator still have the tag? Can you tell what the tank codes are? If your shroud is original too, which one is it, the 114 or the 086? |

I'll start a new thread there. |
