Pics 72 Lemans with hubcaps

Anyone have a 72 Lemans in stock form with hubcaps and/or whitewalls? Would like to see pics what it looks like, not many around like that. Thinking of going 14" Rally II's/whitewalls and switching back and forth once in a while betw. hubcaps and R II.

I wonder if the hub caps would fit on the rally wheels? then you could just remove the trim rings and put the hub caps on. No need for 2 sets of wheels. Just a thought.

Here are a few of low mile 72 T-41 car :D

Do you mean hubcaps or wheelcovers? There must be an HO out there with hubcaps, which went to an uglier design for '72.

My old 72 with hubcaps and 15x7 torque thrusts.

Hubcaps

No offense, but those hubcaps are hurtin'. The rally II with Wide ovals changed the whole demeanor of the car!

Here are a couple shots of my old '72 LeMans GTO with the factory style '72 poverty caps on 15x7 plain steelies.

Car was originally equipped the (also shown) "KR" 15x7 Rally IIs.

The factory wire caps look good, especially on a convertible. Gives it that "I'm not trying to look like a GTO look"

sglemans 11-17-2014 04:25 PM

Actually poverty caps or wheelcovers, but especially the 72 full wheelcovers with the concentric-circle design

I think sglemans is referring to the custom cap, a shallower version of the 69 GP cap. If so a heck of a lot nicer looking than the deluxe cap.

sglemans 11-19-2014 01:45 PM

Yup that's the one I'm talking about, wow never saw one polished that well before lol :jaw:

The best thing is that I can take the wheelcover on/off the Rally II wheels and basically be able to switch back and forth between them

Does anyone have pics of a car with that hubcap? Mine is not a lux lemans, no fender skirts

Interesting looks like that wagon has 71-style hubcaps, must have been avail. in 72 as well

The Boss 11-19-2014 09:00 PM

Uniroyals on the Lemans T-41 vert.

(I won't mention that GOD awful body side molding!)

I got the pic off of eBay, NOS for sale now

Squidward 11-20-2014 06:55 AM

Lloyd's poverty caps/steelies got my vote for coolest.

sglemans 11-20-2014 10:18 AM

Yeah those are cool looking, but must be very difficult to find. I think they were only 1972 maybe 1973? No repros either as far as I know

A more common alternative is the 69 GP ones, look very similar but have a nice deeper look. They are easy to find.

my first 72 - one with rallyes one with the orig hubcaps (red PMD centers). Still have the hubcaps and havent seenmany of them..

north 11-28-2014 09:52 PM

Those wire caps can look good but not with white letter or black walls!!

sglemans 12-01-2014 01:25 PM

LLoydTX, I wonder did they make those poverty caps any other year/model other than 1972? Might be easier to find that way.

The wire caps look good as well, prob. just as hard to find though.

One more question, were the trim rings on RII's in 1972 satin finish like the 1969's or polished/shiny?

north 12-01-2014 08:17 PM

Surprisingly the wire caps are the easiest to find. Maybe because they were identical from 67-72. They weigh a ton though, well made and they don't rattle when you drive like the 80's versions.

sglemans 12-04-2014 10:04 AM

LOL, that's a good one :pound::pound::pound::pound:

Are those 71 caps or were they avail. in 72 as well?

CDN2PLS2 12-04-2014 08:15 PM

I think they are right, shows them on the window sticker.
