Here you go. This came off a low-mile, '70 Ram Air III. The ink stamp is white.
I also have the original lower hose off the same car. That one has a yellow ink stamp. The original tower clamps are dated 2nd quarter of '70, just as an aside... Let me know if you'd like any more specific pics. Thanks for making these available by the way. |
Awesome, but could you pull the clamp off so I can see the whole thing? Also is there a stripe? Need a close up of that.
Thanks |

I don't see any evidence on THIS hose of a stripe, but I know a lot of them did have one/two stripes running down the length of them. It does have a "serrated" groove though (second pic). |

Are you questioning my work? LOL

i know this has been tossed about before and please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, but its my understanding that the original part number for at least an 71 upper is 483115 code NS.
i *think* that the 1776 came into play a few years later on down the road and has been a correct Service Replacement to the 3115 as it ultimately superseded that original 71 number??? the lowers appear to be the same 480200/480201 but the uppers i'm not too sure. see enclosed photos.... |
What book is that you posted? I cant find that # anywhere. Will look into it.

According to Pete McCarthy, we can draw a pretty close year correlation by the first 3 digits asssigned to a 6 digit part or casting number. So this is what he shows:
1970, 478xxx, 479xxx, 480xxx. 1971, 481xxx, 482xxx, 483xxx, 484xxx. 1972, 485xxx, 486xxx, 487xxx. 1973, 488xxx, 489xxx, 490xxx, 491xxx, 492xxx, 493xxx, 494xxx. As someone mentioned, if there was no need to change a part or number assignment, an early (smaller) number could be used for later year(s) production. |
bossbirdta, what car is that on? And what month and plant?

Well, I had Gods helper look up the # and it doesn't exsist in any parts book or part # history book or my GTO assembly manual or the PY part # look up, but i see what you sent me looks legit. Soooo, I don't know what to tell you except the one im doing is in all the parts books and part# history book as a 71 all # and have had and documented more than a few survivors and original cars so yours must be a minority, not to say it never existed though.

70 ps hose
Are you going to do 70 ps hose, with red line?
I am. Have stamp and hoses.
I think the PS hose with red line is 71-72 as well..I know my 71 has it.
Yes, 70-72 with red line is the majority ive seen. However the GTO hose and the TA hose is slightly different and I am getting those now. Have the GTO hoses in stock.
ORIGINAL REPRODUCTION HOSES
for the most part I never considered this (n.o.s., repop ,) just need a replacement hose...but after seeing one on the 165TH car..I want one..I suppose its that yellow pinstripe

For the 71 Trans ams there is an early and a late date. The originals I copied from had a 69 date code on them and I also made up a later date on some of them of July 70 for the later cars and up. At this time Chuck Henley still has a few left of the batch I made in the NOS material Gates hoses. These pictures are them. When his are gone I will have more ready.

adding another fly in ointment; fortunately both My V.N. built 71's have their build sheets intact, one being a pretty early build (08) and the other later on (02) and both show the exact same two letter codes in their respective box's for the hoses which correlate back to that 3115 number for the upper....not to mention the photo I posted earlier of the 04 built car with what looks to be its as-built-with 3115 upper hose.....in all these examples it appears that NS is correct for at least 1971 and maybe a bit beyond that. ....:2cents:
Late 72 Trans am also shows "NS NT" on the build sheet.
Maybe its just a Van Nuys plant thing. Anyone else want to chime in with their original hoses? Maybe I will do them too but need to find out more about em.

Well, all of the survivors and original hoses I've seen are the ones I'm making and were mostly Norwood cars. So I think the majority would have this hose and im sure the Judges wouldn't points off for it either way. If I get a large request for the one you have maybe I can do it but like I said, its probably the minority because there were different suppliers.
I now have a set of nos upper and lower 1970 Trans Am rad hoses in my possession. I will be making stamps this week.
What judging standards do you address?
The Norwalk? TA Nats are more of a beauty contest.. |
Not Norwalk LOL, that's a joke. Hopefully the TA nats will get up to speed one day, I know their working on it. As far as GTO nats, POCI and MCACN go, these should pass.
I've hit a snag on the lower hoses. Cant find a supplier with the original shape hose. Anyone have any idea where to get them?

Fairly close doesn't cut it for me. I've gotten hoses from Dayco, Gates, Goodyear and AC delco and one other off brand and none of them are the correct shape. They will work but whats the point of doing concours correct hoses if their not shaped properly? The Parts Place had 2 listings a few weeks ago on ebay with both the correct and incorrect shape but the one with the correct shape in the pic is gone now so im not sure anyone can even get the right ones anymore.
What's wrong with the Goodyear hoses? Could you post pictures comparing a current Goodyear with an assembly line original?

I have sent all of them back so I don't have a picture but their not close enough for concours judging, the shape is just not the same, they are kinda goofy looking. Here is an nos one.
upper hose
NOTIME..I am a little slow...are you selling 1972 upper radiator hose with the markings for a T/A and what hose are you using...close enough is fine as are you saying they do not make an exact repop?...I recently got one from AMES so that is wrong regarding shape? ...I DO LIKE YOURS AND IT WOULD LOOK BETTER!..can you PM a total price..thanks!!
These are an exact replicate of an original, if you look back at the pictures, 1 of them is an original. However, Chuck Henley still has a few left in the NOS Gates hoses that I did for him, you will need to contact him to get an upper. When he runs out, I will be selling mine. That was our deal, we kinda did this together.
HOSE
THANKS!!...when you say N.O.S. most likely an expensive item...sounds like I will have to live with all black for now...and when all the N.O.S. are gone how about a close enough repop!??...thankx & T/C
The price for either one is $100 for the upper. I was just saying that the ones chuck has is in the original rubber material that I striped and stamped, they look like NOS. Get em while you can.
hoses
I have 3 van nuys,70, and 2 71s so I can use, if you do them,
QUOTE=notime;5364750]Maybe its just a Van Nuys plant thing. Anyone else want to chime in with their original hoses? Maybe I will do them too but need to find out more about em.[/QUOTE] |
That was a 71 number that he was showing us that was different. The 70 is all by itself and I am picking that stamp up today and am ordering more hoses so I should have the 70 upper hoses ready in a week or 2.
How much are the NOS 70 hoses going for? My only concern would be the age of the rubber.
$
that's a great price..some how I was thinking more...good deal and thanks!
The 70 hoses are brand new. $100 for the upper shipped to the lower 48.
Thats my NOS 480201 lower hose.. tell Chuck to send it back to me , I am about to need it. He will know who this is....
And that 480201 was used on 70 and 71's..
...and out of nowhere Bill emerges shaking off three months of winter hibernation. Welcome back Bill.
Bill, I gave it back to him a while ago, its sitting on the back of his RA III work bench. I will mention it to him when I see him this weekend.
I was wondering what became of Mr. Bill.
