Norwalk PY Forums 11th annual Friday Night BBQ is ON!
Norwalk is less than 4 weeks away and PY (now Max Performance) wants to officially announce that we will again be hosting what is now our 11th Annual PY Forums Friday Night BBQ compliments of Max Performance, GTOG8TA.com, Snappin Turtle, Cold Case, Fast Auto and Pypes.
The ONLY change for this year is the location. Our BBQ kicks off BEHIND the Cold Case and Pypes trailers located in the main row of the Mfg Midway. Figure around 6:00 pm. We will be bringing, all the way from Hatfield PA, our now famous BBQ rib sandwiches, our pepper and Onion sweet Sausages, burgers, dogs, a couple of crock pots of bbq pulled pork, condiments, plates, utensils, water, soda and chips. We'll also be releasing a couple of new drinks in - The Violator (formerly RED RUM), M-80 and Pype Bomb. :usa2: However, just like most picnics, attendees always surprise us with various contributions. These contributions really bail us out because it adds a great family atmosphere to the bbq. I expect the crowd to be a little lighter this year as literally only Forums members that read this will know about the bbq. I'm pretty convinced that even some of you who read this will miss the changed location and wonder what happened to the bbq this year. ;) If you want to bring a food or drink item please post what you're planning to bring. If you don't, that's ok too. All you need to bring is your appetite and maybe a chair. Items we always seem to need for the bbq: ice, bottled water, Chips, beer, any side dish and an extra grill would be nice! I am also again looking for volunteers to take a cooking shift. Emily and Kelly have been grilling machines for years. If anyone else wants to volunteer so they can have a break, we can use some relief pitching. I'll also be able to do a much better job of making and distributing some of the new drinks. :) We hope to see everyone there. REMEMBER, THE NEW LOCATION is in the midway around the Pypes, Cold Case or Snappin Turtle tents. Also please check in with the poll above so we can get a good head count. |
Chris, Denise and I are in. She will prepare a big bowl of pasta salad like we brought to the Open House a few weeks ago.
Just a thought... maybe bring back the name tags? It may help to keep out Free Food Freddy and will help us get to know more forum members. Name tags are a nice touch ;) |
Will bring the usual liquid refreshment :beerchug:
|
Yep will bring our usual Canadian refreshment as well :beerchug:
As long as all goes well ....might need your help like last time Gary with our refreshments |

Its sad to watch people who have no affiliation with the group come in and stuff their cheeks with food and not contribute anything!!! We contribute every year as well as the group we hang with and most of the time I don't get a thing to eat or left over table scraps people save for me because I'm off racing in the gamblers, but we still contribute! Chris goes above and beyond the call when it comes to hospitality at anything he puts his hands on and is EXTREMELY generous with his BBQ's! I hope everyone who plans on enjoying this event support him by bringing something to contribute regardless how big or minimal it may be. If you can't, people understand, if you haven't before, maybe do this time, If you just won't....well i hope you sleep good at night. |
Carole and I will be bringing the usual pile of homemade CC cookies, a pasta salad, and who knows what else. ;)
|
Bringing beer! :D
|
Bringing Norwood!
|
We will bring cookies again this year, CChip, Sugar, Fudge. Yumm!!!!!
I agree that name tags would be great, would like to meet all that has helped me on the great forum. |
Name tags would be great. I know I missed some good salads at Hatfield. All gone early. Didn't know we had so many PYer's!? As usual Chris went above and beyond at cook out. Thanks Chris.
Not sure what I can bring but will post when I know. |
I've done the name tags several years in the past. I'll track them and Rob can print them. Of course, Ccass needs to approve me doing it ;)
|
I'm fine with name tags but I dont' want to treat them like 'tickets'. You all need to remember that a lot of people bring stuff early in the day stealth. A lot of people are customers that we invite during the day on Friday. Let's not punish those people because they don't bring something. :(
Bring stuff because you want to promote a family environment. No strings. If you find yourself looking at plates that are too filled, you need a Pype Bomb! It's all good! Another thing you don't see is that a lot of these people don't even know they are suppose to contribute but after a few times, I see them figuring it out for themselves and then they feel bad and cross over from the dark side. Your contributions bring in new people and convert people over time.....not everyone but we don't need everyone to 'get it'. Lastly, this year is in a different place with a different landmark. I think you will see a more representative sample of PY forums members than in the past. But even if you don't..... Just look at the big picture. All our contributions foster and promote some serious good will for the event and our hobby. :) |
I'll try and pop in.
|
I'm a bit upset and confused. I do not want to be looked at as "FREE FOOD FREDDY"! First off I am a member, second, I did put in the poll that I and a friend would be at Hatfield for the BBQ. When we got to the BBQ on fri. I looked for a member check in sheet. Was told is none. So we started to walk around and check things out. Everyone I spoke with I would introduce myself as a member. Yes I did say to my friend that the BBQ is free to members as we stuffed our cheeks. So with that said, if anyone had a problem with anyone why not just ask who they are.
PS. the sticky buns are really good. Thanks, Trans Am Greg |
I will be there with a couple cases of water

If you're planning on coming out to Norwalk look for us on the race side. |
I haven't been to Norwalk, but I'm thinking about it this year - would just be coming to hang out and see the cars, not race mine. Is the BBQ open to anyone, or just PY Forums members? What time does it start?
|
Bean dip
Ill be there - anyone Up for some Nitromethane bean dip?
Bring your Nomex underwear!:jumping::jumping::jumping::jumping::Pea ce: |
I hope I don't jinx it but if all goes well I will be picking up a travel trailer from Paul (389Goathead) tomorrow and will be there with my 17 year old son and one of his car buddies. No car to race though (we'll be on the non-pit side). I will bring some New York pizza (not really a BBQ item) but couldn't think of anything unique otherwise.

Just confirming to everyone that we will be in the Mfg Midway middle row. The bbq will be in or around the Pypes, Cold Case or Snappin Turtle tents depending on the wind! Just look for the smoke. We're going to be pretty hard to miss. :) Figure 6:00pm unless there are extenuating weather or track circumstances.
Racers, even though we start at 6:00pm, we almost always save stuff for racers until at least 8 pm. |

Had a great time, Chris. Thanks for hosting another BBQ night. And, thanks to all those who helped out too.
|
Sooooo.... How was Norwalk? Did the weather cooperate? Good turnout?
|
It was a great weekend. The first time I can ever remember 3 non weather threatening perfect Summer days. Because of that, I also can't remember seeing the parking lot, Show field and Pits so full!
Thanks for all who attended the bbq and thanks especially for all those who dropped by with food and drink donations. Because of that, this year we literally had enough of everything until the last person was served. 2015 was the year of No lines and no waiting either! Amy, Kelly and Emily literally cooked their buns off. :) And as soon as rib sandwiches, pepper/onion sweet sausage, burgers and hot dogs started disappearing, they got replaced. All but about 4 oz's of the 25 lb of bbq pulled pork we brought was gone when it was all over. A monster crock pot of meatballs went quick and my lips are still numb from what I assumed was the annual Hammer time Racing Chili. I can't be the only one because that giant crock pot was empty when we cleaned up too! But wait, there's more! Rustie the potato salad making machine somehow, right at the track, made 3 giant trays available. In her spare time between racing, about 50 deviled hard boiled eggs appeared. Pasta Salads, chips, beer, water all magically appeared from various attendees as well. The now old standby Anti-freeze 'killed' (get it) Redrum this year. If you missed either, you didn't look close enough that the Cold Case trailer counter had been turned into a temporary bar. ;) I'll venture a guess that we had a slightly smaller crowd this year(lots of people thought there was no bbq because there was no PY) but we steadily served for a good 2 hours. Also, when was the last time you saw the Ames crew at the bbq. Who would have even thought about that happening. :) We liked the new location there in the midway. I already started my grocery list for next year and have a couple of ideas that will REALLY add to what has already become a long standing tradition. Stay tuned! Our Pontiac hobby is alive and well and it's all simply because of everyone's participation. Keep spreading the word. |
Glad to hear that Chris. Sounds like I missed a great weekend!

You gotta start planning now. You've been away too many years now. we miss you. :) |
Lol, well thanks Chris. I think I will come next year!
|
Warning to all, don't be to late! (lol...)
The wife and I did not get over to the BBQ until after 7pm, and we were lucky enough to get a couple pork sandwhiches and some potato salad. Only a few die hards remained so we left a couple trays of cookies for them to enjoy. I assume that they did not go to waste. ;-) Sorry I missed meeting everyone, but it gives me another reason to look forward to next years event. Thank you again to Chris and all the folks that put on the BBQ! |
