72 Hurst SSJ 4 Speed on Craigslist might be too far gone to restore.

looks like a stick conversion..i dont think any 72 stick GPs where built..

might be wrong..i'm not really up on GPs

I've never seen one, but I've only seen 2 SSJs,

No manual GPs in 72. Very few in 71 as the option was cancelled early in the run.

Would be awfully rare if it was legit.

It looks like a Hurst AutoStick shifter. Just a floor mount automatic shifter that looks like a manual trans shifter. I have seen them in the SSJ literature.

Could be an Auto/Stick car, but that means it would have been a bench-seat car originally. Very hard to tell what's original on that car and what's not.

It's got the sunroof and the correctly placed exterior emblems, but would love to see better pictures...I, for one, can't conclude what exterior color that car would have been.

It kind of looks like Pewter.

Needs a PHS....wonder if the seller has a copy.

Revere Silver and black upper 2 tone ,white stripes with black half roof. Pewter interior bench seat .

My friend just picked it up. Yes, it's got the bench seat with Auto-Stick. He says it's Pewter but who knows?

Silver/ black must be the only one in this color combo.

There is another documented all silver with black SSJ that was given to George Hurst's accountant back in 1972.

Yes, that's it. I believe that's the auction photo from around 2012 and I currently have no idea where that car is, but if I'm not mistaken, it sold at auction in St. Louis. Probably not helpful since those auction cars get shipped everywhere.

I have some paperwork somewhere on the accountant who owned that while working with Hurst.

Those, of course, are the American Racing 200S wheels, not painted gold. And a very unusual decal in the rear 1/4 window. Story has it that George Hurst himself used this car for a short spell back when new.

Are you sure it was this one ? Maybe this new found Revere Silver and black SSJ is the one George Hurst drove around when it was new.

Pics saved from the 'net....looks like the interior is even 2 tone factory pewter with black seats ,carpet and a black headliner more than likely installed at Hurst. .

I'll be taking a closer look at this car once I get back from vacation. My pal in nearby Lakeland bought it and has already retrieved it.

Buckets are wrong for this car. Can't currently tell what's right or wrong on it as of now.

Did he run a PHS?

Will a PHS show what Hurst did to that car ?? If not is there any way to document what Hurst did on these conversions ? A fellow recently sold a black/gold '72 SSJ on Ebay and claimed that Hurst installed Lincoln Mk IV style opera windows in it.

He ordered PHS for both of his cars, so we'll learn about more than this one (although the other one is a "conventional" SSJ).

Guys not too much of a pig! He now has it listed for 18,000 on Philadelphia's craigslist.

Crazy. It's not like those SSJ's are a '70-'71 Challenger or Cuda project.

These are the PHS for both cars in the ad. Interesting the silver car isn't signed off on the invoice by Hurst Research . They must have kept it ? It didn't go back to the dealer for a customer. The black car invoice is signed off .

Make them an offer they can't refuse . ;)

I'm so insulted at their high-ball asking price, I'm not even going to make them a reasonable offer. :confused2 ;) :D

my phs wasn't signed off either. story I got, was the owner picked it up directly from hurst.

Who knows. I heard that a collector/dealer in Florida found and bought the "I Dream of Jeannie" Roger Healey custom Firebird convertible with the Trans Am parts on it , paid about the same as that SSJ and then flipped it on Ebay for 90k. What would you pay for a '69 Judge convertible in the same condition ? I heard another deal where a seller in Florida had a severely rotted '69 Trans Am RAIII 3 spd manual hardtop and was paid 20k for it. So, is this SSJ really out of line ?

not that it matters, I'll give my opinion anyway. Yes, the asking price is way out of line for what it is. a convertible judge, '69 T/A, or Hollywood specialty car, all are very desirable (to a wide range of people) and have six figure potential restored. the poor SSJ doesn't share that desirability among anywhere near as large a buying group, unfortunately. the few nice SSJ's I've seen for sale on the internet, have had an asking price in the mid to high twenty's. even if they were going well into the thirties, at the original sellers 3k price, you'd still be upside down in that car after the restoration. let alone with a 18K buy in.

all that being said, I don't begrudge anybody for asking whatever they want for their car. after all, it is their car and a free market. If it doesn't make sense to me, I'll just move on. knowing what little I do know, I just don't see a path being beaten down to his door by people wanting to buy them. good for him, if I'm wrong.

I paid 1/2 that for a complete, running & driving SSJ with shipping from NV. Only rust was under the top.

He's about 12-15K over realistic value.

With what I know now about restoring these cars I wouldn't have paid what he did in the first place.

Your opinion matters ! LOL You mentioned the original ad this car was selling for 3k but when I first saw this thread and later checked out the CL ad the seller wanted 10k and then the ad disappeared a couple of days later. So how much was it ?

I didn't see the 10k add and have no idea what it sold for. the latest add for 18K is still up on craigs list. just updated after a month.

It appears that someone is buying this SSJ.

do you know if the sale was completed and the final price? it would be great to see it resurrected.

I think its back up for sale........at the high price who would really buy it?
