I've been tending bar for 36 years ..... just got home from another of my countless Friday nights. I drink $8 a bottle, room temperature, cheap, straight gin.

Everything else is pansy booze :) Real men drink stuff that sucks :)

True but the Bowmore, Laproaigh and Lagavulin would be my choice. Lagavulin is the absolutely best you can offer me.

Get it while you can. WSJ says Chinese are putting a hurt on the supply.

I'm going to give those a try, and enjoy a nice taste test...laproaigh has been tasted before and made me a happy man!

I enjoyed a sip of Balvenie DoubleWood last night on the porch. On special occasions I breakout the Balvenie PortWood - real smooth.

I'm a Bourbon guy - just can't do Scotch. I've tried all kinds of Scotch, highland, lowland, expensive and cheap. Yuck. Guess I'm just a weirdo.

Now, pour me a snort of this with one or two rocks and we can have a conversation:

Dalmore 12 is my go to Scotch. I'm a Highland and Speyside guy.

For Bourbon, the best I've ever had in my life is the Rhetoric 21 year...it's an orphan barrel...limited supply. I guard my bottle of it jealously.

Macallan 12-year single-malt is my favorite scotch, drunk neat. Woodford Reserve is my on the rocks bourbon, always keep a couple bottles in my bar. Willett is my neat sipping bourbon.

Macallan 18 but in the past year its gone from 175 to 225-245. I had a hard time spend the 175. Went to the 12 yr old and Glenn now.
Seems like all Scotch prices have gone up in the past year. What gives?

Scotch is a one way ticket to "Hangover from Hell" for me. I've tried it enough times to know that it's not for me. My father in law got me drunk on beer and talked me into trying it . It sounded like those tom tom drums were hell bent to beat their way out of my skull. Never again! I usually take him a bottle of Glennfiddich 18 year old every time we go over to visit and every time he tells me that it is not proper to not have a "Wee Dram" with him. So, on our first night I'll force down a shot and I don't drink again that night. Just can't do it.

I couldn't imagine getting Hammered on Scotch.....just a sipping drink for me...2-3 drams and Iam good.

Same here, I had had a few beers when I was asked to try a dram of it and probably only drank about 2 maybe 3 shots. I haven't had a hangover like that since I was 18 years old and drank that Habu Sakki in Japan

There should be a booze that sucks thread. And yeah Jeremiah Weed would be on that list.

The latest rage among service industry employees is Frenet (sp?) ... god that stuff takes like a used sneaker, have no idea how people drink it.

We usually keep only about three kinds of single malt on the shelf .... we don't really have any regular drinkers of good scotch that come in ... so problem is, it gets slowly given away .... and the profit margin is already pretty slim on that stuff.

Kids these days have to have flavors, flavored everything ... now it's flavored bourbon the last year or so, used to be flavored vodka, before that flavored rum.

Dataway, why give it away? It is still good if it the cap or cork is put back on, right?

If no one buys it .... it eventually gets consumed by the staff, the owner or someone else that doesn't pay for it :) Sometime the occasional "celebrity".

Bacardi Black, which used to be Bacardi Select, which before that was Bacardi Black. Go figure. I drink it neat with a ice water chaser. A nice varient is to put the Bacardi in the freezer, but that's not absolutely necessary.

I have a friend who occasionally drinks Crown Royal with coke. What's the point in that? Just buy some cheap whiskey and mix it with coke.

Got 1 memory of Jack Daniels. It wasn't good. 18 years old at my first Marine Corps Ball. I remember getting all done up and my buddies and me headed to the ball. We got there and had a few beers, then the festivities began. Now the rest is a little fuzzie so some of my story is from eye witness accounts. One of my friends said they were calling my name so I stood up and was told to come to the stage. When I got up there I was standing looking at my Sgt. Major. He was the most decorated man on the base, he had medals and ribbons all up his chest nearly to the top. Anyway he tells me that when they announce us we are to go out and watch the cake being cut and then by tradition we ( the youngest Marine and the oldest Marine ) on the base get the first pieces of the cake. Well, he didn't tell me the whole story. When we got out there they hand us the cake and then someone hands the SgtMjr a bottle of Jack ( pure devil water ). He unscrews the cap and hands it to me. Now I had never had Jack but I love Jim Beam, so when I get it I took a kind of medium size drink from the bottle and try to hand it to the SgtMjr. He chuckled and said take a mans size drink, so I took what I thought was a big enough drink to satisfy him but he chuckled again. When he took the bottle and drank I though he would drink the whole thing. I honestly think he drank more than a third of the bottle. Anyway he hands it back to me and with a look in his eye that was taunting me to take another drink, so I did and I don't know how much of a drink I took but it was way more than I should have. And that was the last thing I remember about that night. I do remember waking up in my Dress Blues cover in puke and thought I was having an aneurism . I was told a lot of stories about what followed that fateful drink, but you can't believe a bunch of drunk Marines. The one thing I learned about Jack is to leave it alone and let everyone else talk about how great it is. The smell of it still makes me want to hurl. So, David enjoy your Jack and never worry that I will drink up all there is . It's all yours!

An old friend I hadn't seen in over 20 years stopped by the other day and gifted me a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label. I had forgotten how good it was. So, that's the current choice. The normal standard is Evan Williams sour mash....great stuff for the price, superior to Jack Daniels, IMO. My favorite bourbon is probably Baker's, but it's to pricey for regular consumption.
