What color is your Pontiac
1 Attachment(s)
Like the title says, what color is your Pontiac? Brand and paint code would be great but if not just the color. Mine is a 91 Ford color called Deep Emerald Green. Planning on changing it in the next few years and I am always looking for great colors to sample.

Dark blue sapphire metallic, I believe it was a late 90;s trans am color.

I would always go with a color available from the factory on the car I was painting. If you keep the car forever, it makes no difference, but if you ever sell the car, chances are the buyer will use the "wrong color" as a bargaining tool--I know I would.
When I redid my '64 GTO, there were thousands of reds I could have used, but thought "Why wouldn't I use the factory color?" So Grenadier Red it is. Now, I'm restoring my wife's '64, which was Gulfstream Aqua when new. I had no problem going with this color for the restoration. Now, if you have a beige or light yellow original color, I can understand why you'd want to change it, but still, why not use an OEM color? Sorry, but that's my rant for tonight. |
Original color..Montego Cream ..code 11.. I thinkhttp://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/...psglxaqtcz.jpg
|
Looks like what was in earlier years called Cameo Ivory. Nice car!
|
Teal turquoise over parchment- just like when it left the factory.
|
Mine is so far gone as far as being factory correct I went with the Ford color as I really liked it from when I raced a 5.0 Mustang. I also don't ever plan on letting this one out of my family. I totally understand wanting to go factory color and some of them are really nice. I love that Montego cream color it sure is a nice car. It is great to see some paint colors especially on Pontiacs, it's a lot better than trying to look at paint chips to pick the color out.

Lamborghini Orange with a pearl base. I just started to wet sand it. It is coming up like a mirror!! Getting closer to being on the road.

Tyrol blue. Not sure of brand or code. Went back and forth on what blue to use. Went original and glad I did.

this color came from the 'Colour Max ' paint system M6027G .. the closest I could find to "Tiger Gold".
I find it changes colour with the sun,..can look yellow at noon, and can look light brown at dusk |
My 67 GTO was originally gold with a black vinyl top. It is now a PPG DCC 9300 black.

The '66 is as close to the original Code K-REEF TURQUOISE as we could get it.
Painted in late 1994 with Good Ol PPG bought at Matty's Auto Parts Matawan NJ, One of the best paint dealers in the area at the time. I still have the labels somewhere. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...-6/RESTO16.jpg At the time the shop I chose had just started using the computerized color matching scanner. We disassembled the car and found the front inner cowl to be a perfect spot, so it was used. Sam (Body-man) wasn't sold on the system but we went with it anyway. I was very pleased with the results. Fast forward to 2007 and I put my car alongside a friends all original 1965 Code K GTO and our colors were almost exact, this made me even more satisfied with our results. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...DPOCISHOWa.jpg And 22 years later she can still hold her own. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...PRINT-6/2D.jpg Thank you Sam Wilson, We just wish you could have seen her all back together. |
My 73 GTO is Florentine Rd Met. & is code 74. It is chroma base & chroma clear which is of course a 2 stage base coat clear coat. I repainted the car myself in 1997 by taking it all the way down to bare metal with a bunch of 3" scotch brite pads & an angle die grinder. It took FOREVER to strip the car but the finish was well worth it , but it needs to be repainted soon as being out in the sun for the last 19 years has sun faded the paint to where the paint on the cowel is still bright & the car finish is a little dull even with the proper care.
|
My '64 GTO - currently in old epoxy primer that the last owner sprayed...but it is a factory "Saddle Bronze" car with the Saddle interior...
Trying to decide if it is going back to that... (My '70 Buick Wildcat is "Fire Red" - repainted to the factory color with Valspar base/clear) |
One of my first cars was a 76 Toyota Celica GT which I paid a hefty 500 bucks for. I spent 300 bucks on a Maaco paint job and did it in Guards Red which is that really bright Porsche red. To a 16 year old it was the best paint job ever. I would think about using that color again but not on this Lemans, I just don't need any unwanted attention and that color screams pull me over.

My 65 started life as a Teal Turquoise then somewhere in the 80's someone painted it GM Metallic Racing Green. As of today (I mean it was actually painted today, at least the body) it is a Toyota color called Absolutely Red, 3PO code. Now my car is no way near stock so I wasn't worried about keeping the paint correct and stock. I wanted a bright true red. I painted my 66 Porsche Guards Red back in the 80's and that color was a little too orange in certain light. This color is about the purist red I could find. I included a picture of the car when I bought it a few years ago before I started its restoration.

Buccaneer Red. Its a repaint but its very close to the jam color.' Piss Poor camera. Pic 2 better represents the real color.

Ken, not to take anything at all away from the other cars on this thread, that has to be one of the best looking GTOs of any year on this site.

Najavo Orange

I don't get out to car shows very often so some of these colors are new to me and you guys gave some very clean nice looking Pontiacs. Due to budget I have been putting all of my money into drivetrain and interior pieces. It's really nice to see some that are done show quality. Thanks all of you for sharing your cars.

1968 Lemans HO Meridian Turquoise, still has the original paint on it...and it has Ivy Gold interior if you can believe that! I bought the car because I thought it was so unique...350 HO, 3 speed manual, posi, Ride and Handling package, PS, PB, deluxe seat belts, tinted glass, custom PMD wheel covers, special ordered radial tires...yes radial tires in 1968...although I have redlines on it now cause they look so cool. |
1964 Tempest - Original Cameo Ivory Paint
The original paint has a few older body shop touch-ups, is a bit thin in some areas and has more than its share of chips and flaws but it still remains quite presentable. If I ever decide to repaint it I will stay with the original Cameo Ivory.

Two non factory correct paint jobs. (Bright Red-GM Chevy color & Squeezed Lime-Ford color)
I don't plan on selling either one in my life, so I built them to my taste, not original. |

3 base, 2 clear coats Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000. And I get A LOT of compliments. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...417_161752.jpg |
Painted my first 67 GTO In Tyrol Blue in DuPont lacquer in '83. Still have it, but it's in pieces. Current 67 vert is Tyrol Blue. Still get compliments on the color. Looking to build one more 67 and I keeping coming back to Tyrol Blue. 68 is Matador Red. 19 years on a DuPont Chroma Base, Clear Coat. Looking to try SPIs clear next.

Verdoro green X2 for my '68 Firebirds. Both were that color from the factory(hardly surprising).
My 1970 Buick GS 455 project car was Bamboo Cream from the factory. It is the same color as Sierra Yellow for Pontiacs or Gobi Beige for Chevys. I've always been a put it back to factory guy, I may be changing that for this vehicle. |
Mine is 1988 Lemans "Brilliant Red"
Sherwin Williams Acrylic Enamel rubbed to a glass finish. |
My 92 GTA is "Dark Jade Gray Metallic", it was a 25th anniversary Firebird color. Only 16 GTAs made in this color, 18 is the paint code. It uses mica instead of metallic flake.

In the past, i have had a hard time finding the correct color match from the old lacquer to now enamel. I would like to see a new section on this forum listing correct paint, formula's,correct color names and years and brands that people have figured out.

My 73 GTO is Florentine red met. I painted it in 97 with Dupont Chroma base & clear. It doesn't look bad fro almost 20 years old but could use a redo as it's starting to show some age along with some scratches & dings.
