Calling all Formulas..MCACN 2017 Display
I was talking to Bob Ashton (MCACN President) about the idea of a '70 - '74Formula Display and he loved the idea. The cars would ideally have the highest performance motor (RAIII, 455HO, SD455, and RA455) and represent the myriad of colors and options offered by PMD those years, from strippers to loaded cars. He suggested that we would need 10 - 12 cars for the display and they have to be nice cars, not necessarily trailer queens. I would enter my Canyon Copper '71 and my brother's Ascot Silver'74 455 RA Formula. Now we need color and power for the other 8 -10 Formy's....any interest out there in PY land???

There is a special yellow 74 SD that should be ready for it's debut.
|
14 month notice should get 8-10 nice ones!

You might ask Larry Weymouth. He just got his 71 Fluffed up and is now on the road.

I guess I'll be 14 months early since I'll be there next month!
|
OK, we have Mike's '72 Sundance; my '71 CC, Dan's '74 Silver; maybe Larry's LG '71, and Chris' yellow '74 SD. Not a bad start.
We still need a couple of '70 RAIII cars and '73 RA 455's or SD's, and another '71 and '72. Anyone know of some '70 RAIII's nearby that could make the show? or another '71? How about Bob's black '72?....(Bentwheel) Bob, would this be something you would consider? Dennis |
Count me and the Black Car in for this. Although I am preparing to exit the "car scene" to become a big game hunter, I would love to be in the mix at this show as my farewell. My new goal is to get a picture of an elk or deer across the hood of the each Fbody I own. Hah, hah....

That's almost as many points as the red car ;)

I'll wait to see how 2016 goes with my 73 SD Formula. I might be in with the 73 Ram Air Formula 455.

Thanks Bob and James for volunteering your beautiful Formulas! So now we have:
1970: TBD & TBD 1971: Dennis' CC & Larry's Green 1972: Bob's Black & Mike's Sundance 1973: James Blue & TBD 1974: Chris' Yellow & Dan's Silver So, still needing both '70 and one '73. We may have to make it a 455 motor display if we don't get any RAIII's and add one more of each year for 12 cars. Thanks, Dennis |
Bob, I forgot to mention that rack would make a hell of a hood ornament for any car...
Dennis |
Not mine Dennis but you know the owner.
|
I was wondering how you got a Yellow '74 when I know of two others...I should have known it was 'you know who's'! Thanks Chris.
|
I would enjoy having my '71 Nordic Silver HO but I think it's too much of a driver condition car for MCACN. Although it is super rare and all there with a solid body but paint is marginal.

Another majestic animal that will bellow no more.
Wizard/Jamie has an SD Formula at Steve's, but I think that one will be at MCACN this year. |

Maybe I'll buy a 70 ;)

Someone's guilty of having a SD Formula?
Will he have it done before then and show it elsewhere? |

But I'm looking forward to coming to the show to see everyone else's! |
dreamn69, Cool '79 Formula, but, unfortuneately, this is for a limited pre-cat display with the baddest motors of those years. It started out as a 455HO Formula display, then evolved to all year small rear window Birds. You may want to consider a '75-'81 Formula display with Bob Ashton, but I'm not sure he invites post '74 cars...maybe he does, but I don't recall ever seeing any.

Just to clarify, this is for next year - 2017, not this year's show. I don't want you to be disappointed if you went there this year to see the Formulas only to find there aren't any! Dennis |

Be safe and bag a 24" 12 pointer! Dennis |
If I want deer, I'l just pull out of my garage without looking and honking the horn tomorrow morning. Those darn things are like giant, long-legged rats around here in western Jersey. Dozens of them hanging around in my yard.

I talked to Bob Ashton (MCACN Organizer) and he is totally on-board with the Formula display for 2017, so I will be keeping a list of the people that have agreed to bring their cars and updating it on the fly.
Where are my RAIII Formulas??? I suppose this could be a 455 only show, but I hope not! Dennis |
This one sounds incredible. I am trying to plan one 2017 Poncho trip so TA Nats may win. If I could do two events I would be there for this one absolutely also. What a gathering. Not to dis you round port boys, but a RAIII 70 is really needed. No spoiler, 14" rims (likely) are my weird thing. Also the odd Round Ports are cool. The 14" rim, non RA 71 HO's are weird and cool.

would love to see these hood functional... |
Not a fan of 79-81 noses, but with the Formula graphics and dark bottom, it works well. A 79 WS6 W72 like that would be a fine car.
|
Just a thought;
The 70-RAIII are really not that far of of the performance of the std 'L78 cars - maybe you could even find some nice non-RA cars to fill the slots ~ I mean not all '71 455HO Formulas were "ram air" equipped, and it is very easy to breeze over cars which are really cool in their own right... 71-74 Formula 400 & Formula 455 cars were no slouches in their own right. But, what would be super cool is if someone could find that cool gold '70 RAIII/3spd car that was in HPP years ago - that was a really unique car! http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...9BBDA9578C.jpg |

Yep, if you drop the RA requirement, you would open the field up a little.
Min is a 73 Formula 455 L75/M21 with 24 options and to my knowledge the only Admiralty Blue D98 over Saddle ever. Not much of a candidate for your show as although a great driver I am proud to own, it has been panned pretty hard by some folks here. It's really not a show Car. It is however complete and Original (Except for NOM Block) including all of the specific 73 items. Might not be a bad idea to include one of these as they only made 227, 4 speed L75 Formulas ever and all were in 73. Mine is done (as far as my wallet allows) but I assume better ones are out there. I also know that this is not considered a performance Car by many. Perhaps, but in 1973, other than the SD, it was the Ass of the Cat. I do think it's great that a spot light will be on these Cars. They deserve it for sure and I personally think (with Bias for sure) they are one of the best looking cars to come from the era. |
dadsformula, Your Formy is fine w/o Ram Air if it is presentable. It doesn't have to be a trailer queen to be in the display. The color combo and options make is very cool and it is every bit a performance car! Do you have some pictures to share with us?
Dennis |
unruhjonny, If I can't find any RAIII Formy's, I would definitely consider the L78 cars. But for now, since we have the time, the search will continue for the rarer variant. Don't think I have no respect for the L78 cars, because I do. My very first car I bought was a Coronado Gold/black std. TH400, 3.07 open L78 car. I wish I still had it.
