I almost installed white in my 68 Camaro....but decided against it...:cool:

Looking at the pics you have a fine example of a restorable car there. You got lucky!

Guard that front bumper with your life, they are kind of tough to come by. The rear ones you can get easily, those fronts are few and far between. (I had one swapped when I took my original to a rechrome shop, was NOT happy)

If you're going to have it painted, you might want to consider dropping the frame and having it powder coated, it's not that bad to do.

I consider myself Blessed! As far as the bumpers, the front is pretty good...I need to straighten it a little in the middle. I hope I don't crack the chrome, but the rear I am going to replace...:D
I already have split the frame and the body. I am now replacing all the bushings along with all brake and fuel lines and return lines. The frame is now painted and ready for me to start the reassembly...;)

Thanks for the compliment! I've had it since November of 2016! We found it at Elwood, Indiana. I hope by my doing this complete rebuild and posting some info for others, it may help in some small way. I have learned so much in such a small amount of time....being a Chevrolet Guy, this is my first Pontiac. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her!
When done, she should be a head turner!...:cool::oogle:

We removed the Rear End with some of the best help in the world! It is now on the floor of the garage and I can get to cleaning and paint. I will install the new Yoke Seal, and I might even install the new disc brakes, lines, tabs before re installing....
Thanks Jackson and Clint Minglin for being with me yesterday!!..

Time for some photos of the painted front end parts along with all new Moog bushings, links, Ball Joints, etc....
Should get started reassembling the front end sometime next week.
I have decided to once again purchase 4 wheel disc brake kit from Pirate Jack in NC. I will post the kit I am going to order...should look outstanding against the blue finish on this car along with the AR Torque Thrust D/BFG tires...:D

I spent the afternoon cleaning and wire brushing the rear end from end to end. I have posted a few photos of the numbers, but did NOT find any numbers on the axle tubes on either side...any ideas?...:confused:
Also have a photo of the vent hole for the vent valve...check it out. It is on the passenger side tube...:Ithink:
I'll be taking the cover off and counting teeth...:rolleyes:

I hope you don't get tired of seeing the progress! Can hardly wait to show some of the pretty parts...getting the underside done, brakes on, etc...:cool:
I am being very positive the 71 LeMans will look every bit as good as the 68 Camaro did. I have posted a few from it's underside....:first:

Worked on completing the cleaning of the underside of the 71. I also removed all the body bushings and only had two that broke off...the two under the interior. I removed all the interior and used a cutoff saw to open the two locations..I have them soaking in Mr. Blaster. I have some other tasks for Owen Machine and Welding. We'll catch all this in one trip....:D
Went to NAPA today and picked up all the bearings, seals and U-Joints for the car. Now have the Pinion Seal installed and will be working on getting the Axle Bearings and Seals installed...Then it's time to paint and install the new 4 Wheel Disc Conversion...;)

GM made it easy to figure the ratio...do the math...:p

I was asked if this is a complete 4 wheel disc conversion kit. It sure is and I purchased it from Pirate Jack Hot Rod. The rear rotors would not fit over the rear axle hubs, so I asked Owens Machine and Welding at Monticello to turn the hubs down. They now fit like a glove....:cool:

the journey for me is where all the fun is..... my 70 rear has numerical faint date codes on the axle somewhere, but here is a shot of 2 letter ID. XH for 1970 I believe = 3:55 saf-t-trac.

I have been all over that passenger side axle tube and it is NOT there....I even went back over it today....NOT TO BE FOUND!!....:noidea:

Things are now starting to take shape. All the pieces are getting both cleaned and painted. Shouldn't be long until I begin the "resurrection"...:D
Mocked up the rear end with the axles installed w/longer lugs. Needed to check if the disc brake calipers and brackets needed spacers...non needed.
Also painted the front springs along with the front stabilizer bar a smoked grey. most of the other parts that needed to stay neutral, I cleaned/wire brushed and squirted them with Matte/Clear Sealant! They look outstanding....:cool:

nice to see someone else hanging by bungee on garage door track. there goes my patent...lol.

As a tip, regular Krylon enamel paint will flake off and/or peel in an engine compartment or suspension parts, you should be using engine paint, like duplicolor or the like.

Hey there Kurt looking good but can you take a break please! :D Trying to get my 71 Lemans project back on track and you've passed me up. Anyway thanks for sharing and posting the pics. It's nice to follow along with progress !

Today I made some progress on getting the rear end done and ready to go back under the LeMans. Also installed both U-Joints and sealed the driveshaft. Did some cleaning, painting and sealing of the front springs, front sway bar and the new tie-rods on the center shaft.
Should be getting to the end of the clean up detail and will begin to reinstall everything so I have a complete rolling chassis and get ready for Clark Gick to shoot the "Blu"...:cool2:;)

Norm, 😉 I can't wait to get her back together and get ready for paint!

I will keep that in mind going forward! I have had pretty good luck with this Rustoleum Paint on my 68 Camaro...and it is not a trailer queen. Having said that, I hope the Matte Clear Sealer will assist in the longevity of the paint.
