930 hp as cast Super Wedge
Cut and pasted from Facebook.
This is the first testing of the NEW KRE Super Wedge Pontiac cylinder heads. This engine is a 541 cid with a 50 mm cam, STOCK / AS CAST KRE Super Wedge Heads with a 1150 Dominator. This engine made 926.8 HP at 6900 rpm and 777.4 ft lbs of torque at 5300 rpm. The dual 4 (1050 dominator carbs) combo made 937.8 HP at 7000 rpm and 785.9 ft lbs of torque at 5800 rpm. |
927 HP seems quite high for 6900 RPM.
6900 RPM seems quite low for 927 HP. Holy smokey! |
That can't be right, it's KRE. ;)
KRETTF! |
It's interesting it only picked up 11hp with tunnel and 2 carbs, and peak hp rpm only went up 100rpm but peak tq rpm went up 500rpm
|
Where are these results?
|
|
16.1 comp too!
|
The heads sound like a really good opportunity for some builders.

Why not? A 541 ci @ 6900 RPM @ 100 VE @ 12.75:1 and 930 HP would have a BSFC of .417. If CF =1.00 Maybe Alex or someone can give some more information on this pull. Stan |
Been waiting for this. Marcella need to get his hands on a set. High Ports started out @ 330cfm. Took them to just shy of 460fm. E heads start @ 280cfm, took them to 414 cfm. These start out @ 400 cfm, you do the math.
All the most impressive numbers come from same guy. Ain't bragging if its true. But for all the rap KRE takes, this just proves they have brought to the marketplace more real Pontiac performance parts than anyone. And that was true before the Super Wedge. Sure do have some long valves and some real long pushrods though. |
What intake was under that single carb?
|
|
Well if that was with them in stock 400 cfm form there making good VE numbers to top 900 hp!

It would be cool to see what Marcella could with these Super Wedge heads. |

Are making excuses for KRE, why did KRE post if not their best ' mule ' engine????? 'One' of the things that bothered me about Jeff is, when he said to me, I can't get anymore out of these HP heads. So I suggested sending the heads out to a head specialist and see if they could get anymore out of the HPs, his answer was always NO. If KRE has a block or a set of their heads that run fast in someone's race car does it not STILL make KRE look good??? John, since you are the KRE know it all and I guess their mouth piece, well you and ken, WHO has the fastest NA door car with KREs HPs ????? I did not post to crap on KRE because I went really fast with their MR1 alum. block ( thanks Bill Mellott ) and their HPs. Every other block and head manufacture gets more sales when someone goes fast with their products no matter who massages these products. All us Pontiac guys have to thank all the Pontiac manufactures like, DCI, All Pontiac, Visner, KRE, for continuously giving us the products to SMOKE the chubbies guys. |
If this head is as reliable as the hp has been it will be a winner

:) I haven't talked to Jeff since Aug., before that it was 5 years. How's the All Pontiac sponsorship doing? ;) |

Sure that a Super Wedge Head ported by Dave B (or John Marcella, or Jim Robertson, will also make great power. Tom V. |

JOHN you did not answer the question John, WHO HAS THE FASTEST NA DOOR CAR WITH HP HEADS????? For your information John, you lame brain, thanks for bringing up my sponsorships, after what jeff and KRE did to me, my sponsor was and always will be Maurizio Campolucci. So John anytime you want to spend $250,000.00 to show case someone's or some company's motor, let me know because I will come to Norwalk even without my car. And John after you dream of spending that kind of money, lets see how long it takes you to recover. What do you have a dragster that runs 11 seconds and when where you last at Norwalk???? Way to start chit John. If you could read yourself not only in pig language you would have read in my first post that I thanked KRE twice. ANSWER THE QUESTION John!!! |

Jeff/KRE doesn't post on this Pontiac sites.......too much BS (my opinion). Anyone running their (KRE) heads or Blocks are show casing their products. John was Norwalk last year, we talked a while. Speed/running Quick is Relevant anyways. John was a hell of a drag racer! A 450 flowing head as cast is a Bad A$$ head.(my opinion) GTO George |

JOHN, I am SURE you know that car and who owns it!!! |
I may have missed this but what was the fuel used for this dyno session? 16 cr would think methanol.

Oh yeah, you did win the quick 16 this year at Norwalk right? |
Your the one who posted all the crap to begin with.
Perhaps start your own thread instead of derailing this one? |

Just answered some questions the knew the answer to......thats all. GTO George |
also do these heads require a shaft rocker system or will they accepter stud rockers?
|
Ya it would be nice to know cam specs.
|
Will these have the same availability as the warp 6's??
|
KRE building a new head putting them on their own test motor, giving results. Great job

It would have been nice to have a raised exhaust port option like the Tiger and Super Chief heads have.

Stan, yea, that 535 pull shows 929 HP at 6500 RPM. Sooo, i'd like to build and rev my 470 based on thaat. Can you PM me the recipe?! |

No kidding Great Job KRE! Come out with a head. They put it on their motor and started getting results/baseline! NICE! |
I'm very impressed... big numbers "as cast" with the traditional eiieeiie valve layout. Looks like you can use the same old round port headers and maybe don't even need a trick custom "only works with this head" intake?
I'm excited. I like the RAV stuff and the CV1 stuff... now this. Nice to have so many choices!! If nothing else, gives the forum members something new to argue about. ;) |
400 cfm fellas. The intake needs to have things done to work. Great starting point.

How will the super wedge work with the Old Faithful cam? (LOL)

A big, tall head with very long valves, as mentioned. Should provide considerable material for port work without breakthrough. The valve length is close to what we run and we haven't experienced any problems with our stuff. Long valve guides, light valves, really thick large diameter pushrods, and killer springs all contribute to a very stable valve train. The inline head design, while a compromise in many areas, produces a very stable valve train at high RPM's. I don't feel stud mounted valve gear is optimum on any head utilizing the parts I mention above. You would be asking an awful lot of the pivot points, studs and aluminum rocker arms.

450cfm
My warp - 6 heads are advertised 460 cfm as cast nothing but a gasket match . My 541 dynoed 1025 at 7500 rpm . I was quite impressed . They are back at Kauffmans shop to be cnc ported in preparation for the new aluminum block 535 . Don't know it I will dyno this spring or fall once race saeson is here it'll hit the track

I thought Warp6 was a billet head?
|
Quote:
Yes & No it started off as a Billet then KRE casted it! Right now its the Best flowing head out there! Also the Quickest/FASTEST right now.......but that could change Boss Birds RA5 are charging hard!! GTO George |

I truly believe he has a gift. Can look at a port, runner and know where material needs to be removed to fill the cylinder. If you look at just cfms those 450 cfm HPs should have made 1300HP NA, But its not about that . I just think its nuts that a "little" E head with factory steel guides made that kind of power NA. BTW, High Port started off as a billet too. |
