flyingn 02-01-2017 01:07 PM

cool! I like the shift light reflecting off the carb

jerry455 02-01-2017 01:42 PM

This made me smile this morning.

Greg Reid 02-01-2017 03:18 PM

Love it!

unruhjonny 02-01-2017 03:32 PM

awesome!
I kept trying to adjust my screen to discern the primary portion of the carb... was curious if I could discern any details about it.

EDIT: ok on second glance I could see that it didn't have the non-RA '"primary squirters" - I can't recall what they're called at the moment.

STEELCITYFIREBIRD 02-01-2017 03:35 PM

some searching around the users channel reveals the car has 180* headers, I like the sound and tone ala V8 euro super car ....from a 68 Pontiac! And the cackle at idle.

Navy Horn 16 02-01-2017 03:45 PM

Great video. Thanks for sharing.

mrrat1 02-01-2017 04:17 PM

If my timing was right it was close to an 11 second run!

PONTIAC LARRY 02-01-2017 04:28 PM

he had another in car vid running 10.7@122 NHRA D/SA 68 RAII Bird

indymanjoe 02-01-2017 04:32 PM

Love it!

Greg Reid 02-01-2017 04:53 PM

Show this to your buddies that thinks that the first thing you should do is the scrap the 'quadra-junk" and throw a Holley at it. That thing has a throttle response like EFI.

unruhjonny 02-01-2017 05:03 PM

HOLD THE PHONE!!!

I just looked at the other videos;

Isn't the "Hard Times" Firebird run by Truman Fields?

If so, who is Todd?

I thought Truman's car was a RAI car?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVFNJKRn7LU

It appears as though my last correspondence with Mr Fields was in 2009;
When I tried emailing him again in 2014, it appeared to not go through - I got a bounce back.

Truman has passed on to that Great Drag Race in the sky, some years ago.

He was an outstanding tuner of the Q-Jets as were Roy and Mike McKinny.

bummer.

I guess that explains the lack of email replies.

Seemed like a really great guy, was super generous in sharing info on what worked for him - he even offered to sell me some stuff- but I declined... the block was more than I could afford, and the "prepped" heads were not correct for my car...

I did try to keep in touch with him, I hope he went peacefully.

unruhjonny 02-01-2017 05:31 PM

proof that I was trying to figure out what happened to him;

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...ghlight=truman

Half-Inch Stud 02-01-2017 09:15 PM

Seemed like 11 or 12 seconds run time.

Anybody know if Mahoney has such a Q-JET video of the 9 sec ET?

Looks like it runs mid 10's

I do not know Truman personally, but just confirmed...................he is still alive!

unruhjonny 02-08-2017 06:46 PM

Can you divulge anything more?

this is nice to read!

pontiacs-r-us 02-09-2017 12:14 AM

Wasn't there two "HardTimes" Firebirds? 1 & 2 ? Seems like other car was Walt Holyfield (hope I got name correct?) Think he was from Charlotte area?

Search you tube for quadrajet madness .. there is a guy trying to tune 4 quadrajets at once on his engine... Looks like possible to much reversion in his intake tract when under load

STEELCITYFIREBIRD 02-09-2017 12:41 AM

Watched that, going to take some BIG lungs to pull them all open.

I believe you are correct.

When I last was speaking with Mr Fields, I believe he was only running his RAI car;
The car in the original video in this post, I believe to be his RAII car.

Cliff R 02-09-2017 03:10 PM

Pretty sure Truman sold off most of or all of the FB stuff and Pontiac parts. He had a good bit of it, including a nice selection of Ram Air carburetors from what I was told.

Todd Hoven ended up with one of the cars, and he is running the car and doing very well with it from what I've heard.

Brent Flynn would know more of the details as he races his Firebird in Stock Eliminator and would run into him more than I would......Cliff
