65 Grand Prix Tri Power
Hey there - looking to purchase a summer cruiser and narrowing in on a 65 or 66 GP. I ran across this one and wanted to get thoughts from this group.

It needs some love, and within talking to them for 10 mins they went from 30k to 24k. They sent me all the PHS documentation and it does come up as a 421-376 car. HUGE thanks in advance for any advice. |
Wrong 8 lug caps. Tons of bondo around the rear wheel wells. No engine shots. Don't know if it is a real 421 under the hood.
I would like so see more information. They are not even close at $24000. |

The trim tag and firewall look pretty ruff......previous rust?
The vacuum line set up looks hinky.....so do the plug wires! NO side trim or WW trim, what does PHS say? I think you can find better for that amount of money!! I don't think those dealers are selling quality cars! |

From the looks of that trim tag, i'd say that was one crusty car at one time. I'd ask for shots of the trunk and under carriage to confirm.

People have been known to doctor up the PHS.........did he give you a pic of the engine code and head codes? There are lot of dates you can check on to see if they match the cars build date.
That's 128,000 miles I would bet. |

The '66 is a better candidate, but it still is probably priced too high. If you have the $ to spare and don't care, the '66 is the clear choice, but you will never get your $ back out of the car.

The 66 is a MUCH nicer car. I just don't care for the color combo or the cloth interior.
But I am not buying it. |
it sounds like youre looking for a clean driver. find a humble one for under 10 and just dump the rest in repairs. the meanest paint job, a proper tune up and new interior would probably be well under 10k.

Guy I bought it from bought 2 cars from an estate sale in WI - this was one. It is a California car originally though. |

Does this mean it did not have a vinyl top originally and it was turquoises on turquoises? Or was it a vinyl turquoises top. K code is for turquoises. Guessing since they where all hardtops (or convertibles) in 67 it was a vinyl top.

Yep - looks like they are pretty obsolete. Looks like best to rebuild the one I have.
