One less Classic Pontiac on the road
 

Don't know much about this incident today in Toledo, Ohio. But the driver clipped a pole, cut power for some residents and shut down the road for a while with his Classic Pontiac....

Hard to see how the pole snapped up so high? My brother hit a pole with a '68 Caprice split it at the base wires took it up in the air and it came back down and landed right next to him in the front seat. He was lucky that day.

Pole snapped that way as primary power on top is tensioned and held pole top in place while base snapped and caused mid point snap. It also causes whole power line up and down road to harmonic bounce like crazy from impact.

Stupidity on the driver's part...so sad to destroy a vehicle that can't be replaced.

Maybe no stupidity was involved, perhaps a deer or child ran out in front of the driver and he/she took the best option. Just because it is a muscle car does not mean they were into the throttle. Possibly, very much so, that is the beauty of our cars. I hope the driver suffered less than the car.

Looks like a '69 LeMans. Too bad. Agree that without the facts, we can't say it was stupid. Guy may have had a medical emergency as far as we know.

For a Child I would swerve, a deer I just hit the brakes and hope it gets out of the way. Not worth the possible results for a deer.

Or mechanical failure. Who knows. Accidents happen. Bummer about the car. Hope he was OK.

Looks like another job for the Wichita Lineman.

And if it doesn't get outta the way, the results for the deer could be worse. You hit it, take out its legs, and it deflects up and through the windshield and ends up like this fella.

Personally, I'm swerving.

I swerve AND brake for deer. I've hit three in my lifetime..NO fun. If it's practical, when I see one standing on the roadside, I stop until he decides which way he's going.

For me and deer I just motor on by if they are stationary but if they are moving at all I am on red alert. I try to save them for hunting season where I can then slip an arrow into them.

Hard to tell just how much damage was done from the picture, but I've seen pretty bad hits resurrected before. (There's a local guy with a pristine '69 that has been restored from totaled 3 times - including 1 rollover.)

Was he towing that trailer? What concerns me the most is that large piece of plywood that seems to have found it's way through the windows - I wouldn't want to get hit by one of those.

I've hunted deer enough years to learn they seldom move in broad daylight without a predator chasing them. I'm willing to bet someone got "silly" and had more horsepower than common sense or reflex speed.

From the angle on that A pillar, that one won't be resurrected.

That's what caught my eye right away. The right cowl got seriously jacked to throw the top up like that. Probably buckled at the quarter lead joint too.
No, it won't be coming back.

Confirmed. And I bet the door is stuffed back into the quarter panel.

Looks like the trailer may have been a 'participant' in the accident....judging by the sheet of plywood in the passenger window. Hopefully, nobody was sitting there at the time.

That wood hurt. :drum:
