Hello all, new member here.

I'm Tommy Farmer, 57 years old from Wilmington NC and currently evacuated due to Hurricane Florence.

As a young man, I owned a 66 GTO. Bought it as a junior in high school and drove it for about 5 years. It was a VERY cool high school ride... :) Car was totaled, and life went on. Fast forward almost 40 years, my wife and I have reached a point in life that we decided to look for a muscle car. I knew what I wanted... :)

We started looking back in may and by late June had found the right car. A fully restored 66 GTO down in Florida. Had an inspection/appraisal done, flew down took the test ride and made the deal. Put the car on a transport and brought her home.

We love the car and have found out that Pontiac people are just great.

Thanks for the great forum,

Tommy

click "go advanced" under the text box instead of "post quick reply";
on the next screen there will be a button to upload pictures under the writing area...

A few shots of goat. Can you post short vid clips here?

unruhjonny 09-19-2018 12:26 PM

no videos have to be hosted elsewhere, and can be linked - just pictures.
Care to share more about he car?
Is it numbers, or correct, or just modified tastefully?
389/4bbl?
transmission?
gearing?
What made this '66 GTO stand out to you?

Here is the story...

When I was a young man I owned a 66 gto. Bought it my junior year in high school(1978). I drove it for about 5 years before it was totaled while parked on the street (rear ended by an older gentleman at 45 mph). Life moved on, wives, kids, career. I thought about the car, even an occasional GTO dream. But that was all it was, a dream.

Back in the spring my wife asked me a question that floored me. "Have you ever thought about getting another muscle car?". We had reached a point in our lives that it was a doable thing, so the search started with basic criteria.

1 - It has to be a driver
2 - Don't want a restoration project
3 - Don't want a trailer queen.

I looked at a bunch of cars, Chevelles, 442's, even a Grand Prix. But I knew what I really wanted, another 66 goat. We found a potential car in Fl. I hired an appraiser and when it came back GREAT we hopped on a plane for Tampa. Met the owner who had meticulously restored the car over a 5 year period. Body off frame, interior, engine. We test drove it, came back and made the deal. Put it on a transport and brought her home to NC.

It is NOT a numbers matching purists car. It has a 1970 400 that the owner built himself (another story there). Edelbrock performance package, RPM heads and performer intake. The cam is the edelbrock #7157 RA4 clone. The transmission is a M20 Muncie 4 speed with a 10 bolt posi 3:23. It was a factory AC car and is outfitted with a vintage air system that blows cold.

Plenty more but that covers the basics.

Tommy

Welcome.

I pray things settle down for you soon.

BEAUTIFUL car.

How well does that RAIV clone cam idle in a 400 with the A/C on?

unruhjonny 09-19-2018 01:36 PM

thanks for the details!

I understand not many care about number ect, but for some people like myself, it's nice to know how cars are setup... Call it curiosity if you will.

It is possible, but as far as I know, I'm not.

barrierblue66 09-26-2018 07:17 AM

Tommy, welcome to the best Pontiac forum around and congrats on your GTO purchase. Sold my '66 3 years ago, and have moved on to big Pontiacs. I owned the GTO for 25 years so let me know if you have any questions, I'm sure I've been through that area of the car. Also, I'm in Wake Forest, NC and if you're looking for a club, check us out - Tarheel Tigers (of Raleigh) link below. We have a great annual show in June and it's almost Fall cruise season.

Hopefully you can soon get back to normal after Flo came through, and didn't encounter too much damage. Really feel bad for all the folks that took a beating down East. Look forward to seeing you at a meeting or show sometime.

Contact me anytime!

Ken

Nice car! Great to see 5 spoke look on a GTO.

prostreet64 09-26-2018 06:01 PM

Beautiful car! Had a friend with a '66 SS396 that was my first exposure to factory muscle cars, but it was the '65 GTO and later a '67 GTO that my brother owned that got me totally hooked on Pontiac. I never looked back. Would like to have a stock '65 or'66 GTO with the 4-speed and posi of course. Great memories of those days. Best of luck with your GTO.
