Heads up to all you East Coast Pontiacs! Hot Rod Drag Week is going to be in your neck of the woods next year! They announced the tracks early this time, so you've got plenty of time to get that "street car" ready for some fun.

13 hour drive for me and I still hope to be there.

How to you sign up?? someone told me I would never get in there is a waiting list.

They will announce when pre-registration opens. Usually in March. Once pre-registration opens, the first 400 to sign up online, get in. If you don't get in, get on the waitlist and show up on registration day. So far they have not turned anyone away that was there on the property on registration day.

As Greg said, show up. There was something like 300 people on the wait list but that honestly doesn't mean chit, at least up to this point.
400 signed up and paid on the day of registration (sold out in like 5 minutes). only 320 showed that originally registered. 60 others that were either on the wait list or just showed up at the track were still able to register and compete in the event. At $400 a pop, they aint turning anyone away with cash in hand! ;)

Thanks for the tips! It is a hard decision for me because I need a roll bar to run, but do not want one in the car. It's a street car. My best friend and I always wanted to do this, he is fighting cancer now, and it struck me hard. Feel like we need to do this before we can not. Just got to come up with some $$ for the roll bar and of course new drag radials.

Do you guys tow a trailer or just stuff the car full??

Too far east for me. If I can fit the tires in the trunk I prefer going without a trailer, but with the Firebird's lack of trunk space a small utility trailer works well. Only thing in the cab of the car is suitcase, ice chest and backpack.

What ET's does your car run? You could always sandbag to 11.50 if you don't wamt to put a bar in it. If your friend is healthy enough to handle it and has wanted to do Drag Week with you, my advice would be to do it sooner rather than later. It is really a great experiance whether you win anything or not.

We don't pull a trailer. Seems to be plenty of room in my trunk and back seat for everything we need (and don't need, lol) for the week.

No support vehicles. Everything you need has to be carried in your race car or the trailer it's pulling.

It's only about 250 miles farther for us than this year. Only 10% more for you. 😉

Depends on my boost level ;) Had it to the track 2 times and broke on the 1st run. I have an automatic in it now but have not been back to the track. The closest track is 3.5 hrs no traffic, last time it took 7 hrs to get home, it's a long day.
My plan is a high 9 second pass, but I think I need a license for that too.

All good tracks, best of luck to everyone driving/racing this event. Do they let you pick the route between tracks? Or does everyone have to take the same route?

They set a course with specific checkpoints that you have to follow. Generally try to average out each day to about a 250 mile drive between the tracks. One day might be a shorter route and normally one of the others is a long route. 2 years ago we had to travel right at 300 miles between the tracks with all but maybe 10-15 miles of it on the interstate! It sucked!! They will run you all over the place and thru all kinds of towns and traffic and road conditions. You must follow the course or you can be disqualified, and yes, its policed.

How does the registration on Saturday work ? I want to make sure I get in.

Click on the link I posted in post #15 above. All the info you need is there. Basically, click on their registration link when it goes live, fill out all the info including payment (credit card) and hope you are one of the first 400 to complete it. If you don't get in, get on the wait list.

63 lemans coupe B gas. It's all apart now but it should be ready. If it's not, I have a 69 firebird or 34 Pontiac coupe. If they let you change cars. Your firebird goes good. what are you using for a transmission?

That's awesome! Yes, you can change cars, classes, and about anything else except who is registered. That person has to compete.

I'm running a TH350 with a few upgrades that was built by a local guy that builds great transmissions. PTC 10" converter that flashes to 5000.

Do you book motels through Anthony travels or do it on your own?

We have always booked hotels (fully refundable just in case we can't make it) as soon as the dates and tracks are announced. I know some that don't reserve rooms at all and just take what they can find along the way.

I didn't make reservations, I got in with another racer's reservations....

I always winged it and got hotels the day of. There's enough people dropping out due to issues with their car that I never had an issue doing this.

hooter are you in? I will throw this out there now, ANY pontiac guys that need anything during this event let me know I will pull stuff off my cars if neccessary to help you guys get going. I am about a 5 -6hour drive from the northern tracks and plan to be at one of the tracks to spectate anyway. Id like to see the show.

If anyone knows of anyone the got in and can'y make it please. I would love to do this this year as it's in my backyard. Also as Mystic said if anybody needs help or parts give me a shout I'm in Maryland and will travel to help.

I sat this one out along with last year. I’ll be back next year. Car will be ready, just too many other commitments between my son playing travel baseball and a wife who hates my car hobby lol.

We made it in with the Camaro but the date of birth glitch got us when registering the Trans Am. We're, of course, going to show up anyway with the TA. We live about a half hour from MIR so if anyone needs to use a well equipped shop with lift, mig and tig, transmission jack, engine hoist , lots of th400 & 4l80e parts. Lots of Pontiac engine parts etc. Hit me up on facebook (Erik Wiegand) I can have someone at the house in short order.

Last year, I believe we got her to average 10.75 or 10.80 for the week/event, really can't remember. SME quick 32 car break was even faster in 2018 and all we were doing was just spraying enough in high gear to make sure she got in the special race at the end of the week. On the last day, she did run a 10.30@130 with a 125 shot in 2nd and 3rd.
This year we are changing heads and going to a roller (no more flat tappet!) which should put the car easily in the 9.90-10.0 range.

This will our first Dragweek, looking forward to it... I won't be driving my Pontiac but Lowell will have his '67, we will be all BOP at least!! ;)

Drag Week starts in 2 weeks! I can't wait to meet some new Pontiac Drag Weekers! If you're not entered but want to see a huge collection of badass street cars from all over the world, get to one of the tracks and check it out. Sunday Sept. 8th is tech day and you will get to see all the cars. They usually have test and tune that day also so you'll get to see some cars on the track as well.

I talked with Dave Hoover a couple nites ago and he is going as a alternate. He seems confident he will get in and has done this several times. 3700 pound stock block pump gas engine running low 10s . If it's not raining Monday I'm going .

This is the fastest work week of the year for me. I put the livestream up on my phone and listen to it in the background while I go about my day. Week flies by. One of the gnarley Sweedish cars with a big block ended up on the roof today.

Anybody know about the Brown 67 Firebird running 9.30s at Drag Week? Heard its a 535 N/A?

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Yesterday was at Cecil County Dragway. About 5 miles from my house. My neighbor took his son yesterday and had a great time! Good luck to all of the drivers.

That is Tyree Smith's 67 Firebird. N/A 535 with wide port E heads. 3150 race weight. He said it should be running in the 8.70's but they were having some issues with the EFI system. He did get it to go 9.12 @ 148.82 on the last day. He won the fastest Pontiac award for 2019. A badass N/A street car for sure!
