1966 XS Ram Air

5 Attachment(s)
Digging through my GTO folders this morning and found what I was looking for.

Back around 11-15-2011 this car was researched by PHS and confirmed.
1966 GTO, XS Ram Air (190 produced).
Cameo Ivory with Red interior.

The photos are poor quality.

Good documentation, but no POP to show the block code.
Data Plate, 03C = 3rd week March 66
Block Date, C126 = March 12, 66. “Very tight window”

Everything seems to line up as the real deal.

XS
4.33 Special order axle.
Hood scoop has been crudely cut out.
T.I. wire harness terminal on firewall.

Great colors and options on this Beast.

Check it out and give your thoughts on this rare car.

Chris.

Indeed!!!

Ducks Goat 10-29-2018 11:42 PM

I remember seeing that car listed on eBay.

Ducks Goat 10-29-2018 11:46 PM

There is one in SC that’s in line to be restored soon that is the same color combo. When I first heard about it I thought it was the same car you posted but it’s not, the car here doesn’t have the primered quarter.

Greg Reid 10-30-2018 12:10 AM

I'm liking it a lot. White over red. What's left of the interior looks almost too good to be in that car.

Ducks Goat 10-30-2018 04:38 PM

Well I feel like a dumbass now. This is the car that is at my buddy’s restoration shop waiting it’s turn to be done. Was back over there today and it does have a faded black primered quarter panel and he has copies of the PHS. So now y’all now what happened to it.

60sstuff 10-30-2018 05:23 PM

Thanks for the update.

Would you happen to know if it does have the “born with XS engine”?

Ducks Goat 10-31-2018 07:43 PM

There is an XS engine with it but I don't know if it is the original or not, it has the EUN on the block but as you know that has been removed from the PHS paperwork for whatever reason. I'm pretty sure the owner is a member here and I don't want speak out of place on the car.

60sstuff 10-31-2018 08:13 PM

No problem, just curious.

The only way to tell the EUN in 1966 was with the POP.
The EUN does not show in the PHS of this year.

I’m not sure if this XS car has its POP.

Thanks, Chris.

That's how they hacked up a hood for a RA car?

Gotcha, the POP is missing as far as I know. I know the EUN section itself is missing on the Billing History card for this car but present on a '67 Firebird I have even though the cards are basically the same. I thought I had read at some point that PHS was no longer providing the EUN information, but I must have misunderstood that.

That is a Holy Grail'er right there. Living Legend
The equipment list is about perfect too.

Congrats to the owner
Wish it was mine !

How much did it bring on eBay ?

Some 64's have EUN with the PHS document if Fremont Plant cars
No provision in 65 and 66 on the BHC
All 67's have it.
68's have the provision , but some plants used all 000000's at certain points in year.

A few 69 BHC's have slipped out in the past - they had EUN on them.

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-04-2018 09:29 AM

I'm pretty shocked at the price increase for Ram Air option upgrade.

Tri-Power $113
3x2 RamAir $340 ?

Wasn't it just a little more Cam and a Metal Pan ?
No wonder so few were ordered

The Window Sticker should read 778 for the Close Ratio 4spd , not 77W for the Wide Ratio

Post 389 valve covers?

Ducks Goat 11-05-2018 09:49 PM

That's the same engine that's currently with the car at my friends restoration shop.

BirdBrain 11-25-2018 02:52 PM

Tom Stutzman owns this RA GTO. Your restorer friend must be Lee Barnes.

Ducks Goat 11-28-2018 11:03 PM

Yep, known Lee since about '89 or so. My '65 GTO was actually Lee's first car.

SR-71 03-31-2026 04:58 PM

What shroud are you talking about, the ram air pan?
