Wenzler Gutsram manifold

Is this manifold still being made? I've emailed them but no reply as of yet.
Does anyone here have one for sale, I want the one with the tapered runners and cast in nitrous bosses, I don't need the dual quad top. Thanks.

Mike Davis 03-10-2019 08:21 AM

Yes they are still being made, I bought one from Larry about a year ago. Did you try to call the shop?

Would that be the number cast in the manifold..

Bnick166 03-10-2019 01:19 PM

I would think that even a internet novice would be able to gleen that info on the information highway. By simply typing in wenzler manifolds I was able to find it.....took all of about 5 seconds:
http://www.wenzlerengineering.com/PONTIAC.HTM

If the O/P was savvy enough to send an e-mail.....he can easily find the # to call. I would assume it is much cheaper for him to e-mail than to call (since he is from the U.K.)

taff2 03-10-2019 07:28 PM

Ok, Larry has emailed back, initially looking at his site I wasn't sure if it was just old info left on the net. I prefer to email questions to any vendors so that I have a reference/record of what has been said. No mis-understandings that way.

thirdgen455 03-10-2019 07:47 PM

Just got mine Friday.

taff2 03-10-2019 07:59 PM

Yep, just bought one from him without the top, going to use a Holley LS efi manifold top on it to make an efi manifold for my sons big single turbo combo. Very reasonable at $325 without the top,I thought.

Something about great minds.

Bnick166 03-10-2019 08:11 PM

Nice set-up! Larry might raise his pricing once he sees what is being done with them. ;)

thirdgen455 03-10-2019 08:23 PM

This is the Holley hi ram top 300-217 and 300-218. You won't have to use the 300-217 Blank Configurable Top. I am just for added plenum volume.

Are there any issues with moving the outer bolts outward the 1/2" or is it pretty straight forward? My kre 380 gaskets came slotted already, ive never seen this before.

I haven't got that far yet. I does look pretty straight forward. Transfer punch and a tap should do it.

Taff2 how bout starting a thread step by step on this with photos? Would be cool to see. If I ever go efi this looks like a good path

taff2 03-11-2019 07:20 AM

Thirdgen, yes a good way to get a modern efi manifold with plenty of plenum volume- TomV's post in the street section showed a pic of the Holley top and I hadn't thought of it 'til then. Bnick166, I thought the same thing so bought immediately just in case!
JSPont, yeah we will do , still collecting parts for the engine build at the moment-waiting for our rotating assembly parts etc to come in from KRE , using another '59 389 block for this build too-with the mods I said I would never do again- welded up valley/mains girdle etc, so may have a couple of threads to start!
I'm also putting the Holley 300-218 efi top on my own modified Offy 360 dual quad intake, but siting the injectors in 1" thick ali spacers just under the top - I want the fuel injected up high in my manifold. I'll post some pics of that too when the top comes in.

performerrpm 03-17-2019 11:56 AM

not to hi jack but does this later version need as much work to fit as the original?

Any updates on this intake? I’ve been throwing around the idea of doing one of these without the extra plenum area added for a turbo build. Does anyone know the intake height to the flange where the adapter would bolt to? I could have cnc adapter plates made to mate the Holley piece to the Wenzler piece pretty easily if it would fit under my TA hood.

Be prepared to LOVE that manifold! I was very impressed. It's a little heavy and clunky but performs great. Plan on spending some time with Z-Spar splash zone or some other epoxy making the runners/ports line up. Your work will be rewarded. Good luck with it.

I could get you a measurement tonight.

Bill Eveland 12-13-2022 02:21 PM

If your looking for just the height from the edge of the plenum at the head to the top edge with any top on is 5 1/2" , not a vertical length , just the distance from one to the other...

Not sure what question you are asking. I have a Gutsram on a set of 380cfm KRE High Ports. For me, because I don't plan on going wide-port ever, the solution for bolting a Gutsram to my engine was to mill into the outer runners at the root of the flange and up just far enough to clear inserting a bolt as the runner tapers and gets thinner the higher towards the plenum you go. The runners on a Gutsram in this area are literally 3/4 of an inch thick. One of the reasons it is such a heavy intake manifold.

Thanks!! Sitting on a table how high would it be to the mounting flange for the 2x4 top?

Examples:

Northwind Carb pad 7 3/16” / 7 3/16”
Victor Carb pad 8 1/2” / 8 1/2”

I want to love my Gutsram but I think it might be killing my bottom end. This is on a OEM block 474 w/Hi-Ports that flow 380@800, camshaft is solid roller w/760 lift [email protected], 108LSA. I am running 2 660 center squirters . So after 20+ runs on this new Gutsram equipped combo with ETs averaging probably around 10.25 @ 134.xx w/1.51 60ft, I decided to put a Victor with an 1150 on it to see if the 60 ft picked up. The 60 ft picked up right away with a 1.45 60ft and it even gained over 2 mph. Its possible the 2 mph gain was from better air than any day I had raced previously with the Gutsram combo. And like you said, the Gutsram had lots of work in it getting the ports matched up.

I still plan on using the Gutsram but I have some ideas to make it better suited for my combo. I want to take some volume out of the runners. I saw somewhere on this forum that somebody mentioned port reduction plates someone made for a Gutsram. I cant find that thread or post but would surely be intersted to see what others have done to take volume out of the Gutsram for smaller (474 vs 535) cube engines

We ran ours with with 2 1150 dominators and a 3/4" plenum spacer. But 541 inches and allot more cam. Tiger heads, 318/329 Ultyadyne cam. Just a touch over 1" lift. 1.016" if I remember right. 1.85 rocker arms. 110 LC. It was amazing how well it idled and how great the throttle response was with that intake. Much better than the flat/slight convex floor sheet metal intake we were running.

Sounds to me like you’re under carburetored for that motor. I ran an original Wenzler with two 750’s on a 406” and ran 10.10 @ 130 with a 1.33 60’ time. Cam was only 660 lift. Lots of port work on that one too!

Yeah! That sounds like a perfect engine for the Gutsram! I imagine it was pretty punchy on that monster!

You could be correct as far as 2x4 tunnel ram carburetion goes in that 2 660s might not be enough.

What heads were you running with your Wenzler-1 tunnel ram?

I need to get my 60s to where yours are considering my mph is 136.86 (with the Victor/1150. ) (134.30 with Gutsram ...but air vastly different)

I would have loved to tried my original Wenzler on my hi-port headed combo but it seems a whole new roof added over the top of the runners would be the only way to use it on my hi-ports. I ran a original Wenzler on an iron d-port (48) engine and went 10.60 @ 126.25 1.48 60ft

misterp266 12-13-2022 07:24 PM

Home ported 62’s. I think the original Wenzler was better for smaller motors like mine.

I think he did that mostly on early models of his 1st design tunnel ram.

I own both types of Wenzler tunnel rams and neither of them have the phone number cast into them. But I have the seen the Wenzler like you are talking about with the phone number cast on it. Thought that was hmmm...different.

Measured vertically from flange to plenum mounting surface it's 4 3/8"

If it’s sitting on a table, how tall from the table to the mounting flange where the 2x4 adapter plate mounts to? Hope that makes sense

Bill Eveland 12-16-2022 01:37 PM

R 70 Judge mines 6 9/16" for that height , not counting the 2 x 4 top. The wenzler 2 x 4 top adds another 2 1/4.

Thank you sir. I have an idea that may turn out really cool. I’m going to look into it. Now I need to get my hands on a Gutsram. :cool2:

Where did the name "Gutsram" come from?
