I’ll just take a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, shaken lightly over ice. :drunk::cool2:

Simple Man 06-14-2019 04:31 PM

Jim Beam, on the rocks, if you please. Bulleit is also pretty decent.

hurryinhoosier62 06-14-2019 05:21 PM

Sounds like a good night to uncork the Willet.

geeteeohguy 06-14-2019 06:07 PM

Baker's when I'm feeling rich. Booker's as well. The usual go-to is Evan Williams......I prefer it over Jack Daniels a whole bunch, and it' about half the price.

Whisky (Whiskey) is the name of the game in this household.

My wife, son and I are all Kentucky's Maker's Mark Ambassadors. Our house brand since the 1970s.

Woodford Reserve is also in the bar.

If I want to go to Tennessee, Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select is hard to beat.

Simple Man 06-14-2019 08:50 PM

Guys are mentioning a lot of great sippin' whiskeys, but bourbon is bourbon.

I’m a bourbon (and rye) guy....neat or rocks. Lots of good bottles out there these days. Knob Creek is probably my goto that you can get out on the town. Have a variety at home.

I thought the "clear ice" video was cool. I'm gonna try it.
I prefer 1 ice cube in my mixed drink so I make these.

Verdoro 68 06-15-2019 02:22 PM

Dang, Bentwheelbob knows what’s up. Whistlepig, Willett and Elijah Craig is good stuff. My go to recently has been Angel’s Envy.

Jack Daniels, if it was good enough for Sinatra it’s good enough for me.

When I was younger, we used to drink Jack Daniel's. The green label was 86 proof and the black was 90 proof. Now they're both 80 proof.

Interesting read. A few years ago whilst visiting the Lexington area we toured a couple of distilleries. They were preaching propaganda that to be called "bourbon" it HAD to be produced in KY. I took that as fact until reading this article.

David Jones 06-19-2019 10:40 PM

Bourbon is named for the county on Ky but is in fact the basic method used to produce the whiskey.
I prefer Jack Daniels, but a good bourbon whiskey is hard to beat.

Crown, Makers, Beam in order of preference.

Had some Pappys a month or so ago. Its damn good stuff, but waaaaaaay out of my price range.

When I was in my 20s and broke, I found my dinner one night to be odd. Ramen noodles, mixed with mushroom soup. My drink was Jim Beam mixed with Cream Soda. Wasn't bad, but sometimes the cupboard is bare and you make do with what you have.

Not really, David. By law, bourbon must be at least 51% corn based and must be aged in charred white oak barrels. It is not filtered through charcoal like JD. JD is a Tennessee whisky.

beertracker 06-20-2019 06:55 PM

Weller, good beverage!!

Finally sourced a bottle of Eagle Rare. The wife put the hurt on that. Gone. Son gave me a drink of Old Forrester Single Barrel when I went to visit. Really liked that. Four Roses Small Batch Select really got my attention.

Simple Man 06-20-2019 09:01 PM

Chris, I haven't had Old Forrester in years. That bring back some memories, some good, some, well.....

All of those are good. I really enjoy Old Forrester and drank their rye tonight. Their Prohibition is also a favorite. I’ve been drinking bourbon for years, and am really enjoying all the good rye’s that are coming out. Willet 3 and 4 year old is great, Knob Creek Cask Strength rye is wonderful, they’re all good. Outside of rye, the Elijah Craig barrel proof A119 batch was just released and it’s a very tasty addition to this series and not too expensive. Lastly, I just got the new Blood Oath Pact V which I am saving for the weekend. I’ll report back.
