Requirements for racing Street class Tri-power Nationals
Can someone direct me to a website that has the rules for street class at Norwalk? The only thing listed in the official website for street class is DOT tires and closed exhaust. I have GTO George's old car, which has a cage. I guess I specifically need to know what rating my helmet needs to be (Date and Snell) and does cage need padding in the driver's area?? I have run this car before at this event, but has been ten years. Also my five point harness is more than two years old, will that matter in street class? Any help appreciated to see if I can make it.

How quick is the car, ET ?
|
Cage needs padding anywhere that helmet can contact.
Helmet can be SFI or Snell rated, to the 2010 or 2015 spec. 2005 helmets or earlier are not allowed. Aftermarket belts must be within 2 year time limit. Eric |

Make sure your neutral safety switch and battery disconnect switch work (if applicable)
|
Everything mentioned already WILL be checked during tech at Norwalk and you WILL NOT be allowed to run until any issues are fixed. Many guys last year failed tech and were not allowed to run with inoperable Neutral safety switches. If the car has a cage, it need the correct padding rather it runs 9.0's or 15.0's.

NHRA rulebook states no driveshaft loop needed when running street tires and slower than 11 .49 . Do they consider MT SS and MT Street R street tires ? They are dot approved according to MT . Using a strange driveshaft , don't want to drill any holes in floor of street car .

The car use to be legal got run in the 10.80's at one time.

At 10.99 you need a tranny shield. I doubt if they will check, let alone how old it is !
How many racers don't have one ?? And don't forget the locking dipstick. |
Locking dip stick Norwalk will not bust you for.
No tranny blanket, they will. |
My track checks for tranny blanket

Guys I think its a 13 - 12 sec. car now!

A few years ago "MR. Tech" at Norwalk couldn't find anything wrong with my 10 sec. car.
So he suggested I put a clamp on my gas line to the firewall. I told him I'd look into that. Sometimes they "nitpick". :noidea: |

When was the last time the "GOLDEN GREEK" won first round ?
Granted he can drive the car down the track.. Reaction time ? Deep pockets/sponser go a long waaaay OR, back to topic ! |
should i have a neutral safety switch with a stick shift car ?
|
Yes.
Put a switch on the clutch pedal. (like a brake switch setup) :) |

wd45gto, I think I was wrong on the neutral switch.
With a stick I don't believe you need the switch. :) |
Correct John; nothing in the NHRA manual says about having one with a stick and I’ve passed tech at Norwalk without one. It makes perfect sense to have one but not required.
|
Has things chanced at Norwalk for teching? I've been twice 2014 & 2016 only 1 of those times i was tech and the 1 time i was the guy just walked around the car and that was it. Does the tech guy still go through the pits teching or do they have a tech location now?

Last year they did the tech on the return road. Who knows where it will be this year ?
|
cool, thanks.one less thing to worry about.times running out
|
I have seen them go through the pits and tech cars also . They have checked our cars in pits last couple years .
|
Yes tech was in the staging lanes on Thursday. He checked my belts, helmet, roll bar padding next to my head area, neutral switch, and shutoff switch.
NEVER looked under the hood. I know of one 9 sec. yellow car that made at least 2 time runs before being teched. :noidea: |

Dad talked about transferring, seems like Gary, Indiana was the probably target. He got a job a chemical plant though, and stayed here. Sorry for the thread hijack, I've just never come across anyone that actually retired from USX! |
