Anyone still have them where you live? The one that I went to as a teenager is now a shopping center. :( a lot of memories from those times. :) I really wish they’d bring them back. Any fond memories from those days? And do you still have them in your town? My big memory from those days, was I got my first kiss at the drive in. :eek::D and it was in a black and silver 1979 Ranchero. :oogle:

There's only one left in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. I haven't been to one in probably 40 years or more, but they were always fun. Of course, back then we had to listen to those scratchy speakers that hung on the window, instead of the FM radio they use these days, and mosquitos were always a problem on hot nights when you had to have the windows rolled down.

Chicago area has one left. The other did not open this season for good.

The closest one we had has been closed for years. Sat vacant for awhile, then they built a Walmart, Walmart moved to a bigger building then they built a medical center in the old Walmart, now that is vacant as well! The last time I was at the movies there, it was a bit advanced and the sound came through your radio. My battery died (72 grand torino), I had no jumpers, I was one of the last people to leave, dont ask me why :D, and no one had any cables. Finally a guy did stop and all he could come up with was some heavy speaker wire. We tried that to no avail. Finally we took the battery out of his car, hooked mine up to get it started then put it back into his car. I have carried jumper cables with me since then to this day. I did see one in SWestern PA. I was working in Pittsburgh and passed it on my way home.

We have one in flint. I havent been there but my brother has and likes it. Had 2 real close and of course they closed yrs ago. Used to sneak a giant cooler of sody's in under the hood of my old chevy straight 6 pickup. Good memories for sure.

I have a set of those old silver speakers packed away somewhere, that I want to display with my car stuff. Thanks for reminding me, I had forgotten all about them, now I have to go hunting for them. Bought them from a member here in the garage sale forum. :D

I literally just found one an hour away!! We plan on going this weekend in the 90 Suburban if the weather holds out. We will take out the 3rd row seat, drop the middle seat, add some pillows throw the dog in the car and back in to watch!!!

The wife want to see The Lion King. I'm eh on the movie, but drive-in, I'm IN!!! When I was a kid we used to go to the Berlin Drive In on the Berlin Turnpike in CT. Must have seen 100 movies there.

Two multi screen drive-ins in the San Diego Metro area. My daughter takes her female youth group out to see a movie with my truck every few months to have fun.

Went out just about every weekend at the local drive-in up in Redding when I was a bit younger. Usually took my best friend's 57 Chevy. Both the Chevy and the drive-in are long gone now, but the best friend is still around. 1500 miles away but we still manage to see each other at least once a year.

Guess I must be lucky. There are two in the county that I live in. Haven't been to either in years. Maybe I should go before they disappear like the others, Carmine.

My dad came to Gainesville after WWII and went to UofF on the GI bill. We had one drive-in not too far from where we grew up. I was born in 1951 and at the age of 1 year, I along with my older brother @ 4 and my sister @ 6 along with my mom all went to the drive-in on dad's Cushman scooter!! They tell me that mom sat behind dad and held me, and my brother and sister stood on the platform in front of dad while he sorta drove the thing. Today you could be cited for all manner of violations if you tried that one on for size. But at the time dad was still working night shift as one of the 2 Alachua County deputies so we got a pass. Those were the good ole days.

Local 'Highway Drivein' name,closed. Lot,driveway,still there CVS out front. About 3 miles from home.,My parents, 64 Catalina 4dr, backrow in middle, Friday nights.Girlfriend and I in front seat,her cousin and boyfriend in back! Always made sure she was informed about movie! Her dad was tuff.Closest about 1hr away now.How did we survive? No air conditioning!!

Used to go to the "Miracle Mile Drive In" in Murrysville as a kid when I lived in PA. My wife and I went to our "local" (Ceres CA) years ago, but it's now closed. Just Googled and found one about less than an hour here. May have to take the family some time.

OK, I had to Google Montana Drive-In. Seems we have two, one in Butte, and one in Billings. 240 or 450 miles from me in Kalispell. Maybe if Cow Truck is touring the east side I'll hunt one down.

The one that's nearest where I live now has been closed for about 35 years.
The concrete base for the screen is still there and the 'hills' for the rows of cars are still present. I only went to one movie there, back in 1980, to see The Jerk with Steve Martin.
Spent most of my drive-in time in Michigan. There was one in the next town over from where I grew up and it had an unofficial nickname of 'The Passion Pit".
There were better ones farther away that I would go to a couple of times a summer. I never minded the inferior quality of the speakers.

The first time I ever saw Thunderbolt and Lightfoot was at the drive-in, in my sister's '68 Tempest.:)

They would sometimes show oddball stuff at that drive-in. Once I went there and one of the early shows was a collection of Hollywood bloopers hosted by William Conrad.

Apocalypse Now was the last thing I seen at the drive in, wow, that was 79.

I grew up in the Hampton and Newport News area of Virginia. In the early to mid 70's we had several options for drive-ins. My favorites were the Anchor Drive-In and the Peninsula Twin. During that time a local radio station (WGH) offered a deal where a car load could enter the Twin for 1 dollar if they displayed the WGH Flicker Sticker on the glass. (This station is so old that it has only 3 call letters!)
I still have the Flicker Sticker on my left quarter window.

There is one called Haar's Drive-In just off of U.S. 15 in Dillsburg. For anyone that is at POCI in Gettysburg this weekend, it's only a half hour drive north.

There's one just down IN 64 from our home in Georgetown, IN. Been here for decades but is only open Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Got one right here in beautiful Milford NH. 2 screens. Always a fun time

Another in Lehigh area - Becky's Drive-in in Walnutport. Been wanting to try it. They have a couple cruise nights there too.

There is one called Skyway Drive-In Theatre located right off of hwy 42 in Fish Creek, WI. It's a very nice place that my family goes to every time we visit the Door Peninsula. Last Wednesday we saw Toy Story 4 and Aladdin while vacationing.

There is still the remnants of a drive in theatre located a mile up the road from my house. It saddens me to see it sit in disrepair every time I drive past. In my early teen years, one of my best friends lived across the street from the threatre, and during the daylight hours, we would jump the fence and turn all of the speakers in the back row all the way up so we could sit on his parents roof and watch for free. The threatre has been closed for 30+ years, but the framework for the screen and the projector house still stand. The same owner still owns the land, but most of the land around it has been bought up and developed as a medical complex. It's for sale, but I'm guessing that he is asking a small fortune for it.

There is a drive in in Mendon Mass. that is still open, and it was started in 1954.

Went as a kid in the early 1960's, took my girlfriend there in the early 1970's, and took my kids there in the 1980's.

They have a big car show there as well. I think there’s a drive in in schnecksville? Right on the 309? Very close to Trexler Game Preserve.

When I was in grammar school, back in the '50's, my family went to the one just South of Jonesboro, LA. I think the first car we went in was a 4-door Stude, with the rear suicide doors. Only show I remember seeing there was Gone With The Wind.

It must have closed before I was old enuff to date, in the mid '60's. By then, the only one I remember was in Ruston, LA, about 25 miles away. Not aware of any in this area for a LONG time.

The only time I remember going in my '69 GTO, was in either '71 or '72, during NG summer camp. It was at Camp Beauregard, in Pineville, LA, which is very near Alexandria, LA. So, the drive-in was probably in Alex.

Wow ! In looking at those in surrounding states, I found this one in TX, which didn't open 'til '04. They now have 7 screens, can have up to 800 cars, and are open every day of the year.

This one, built in '13, has only 4 screens, but has a 1300 car capacity. I had no idea that ANY were built this century, much less any that big. Would be interesting to know what is the most cars they've had at one time.

We have one outside of Springfield OH that's about 10 miles from our house.

When we go to Eldora Speedway to watch the sprint cars we pass one on the west side of Dayton (Rt 49) going up there in the afternoon. Returning in late evening (usually 11-12 midnight) we can see the movie playing on the screen from the road as we drive by it.

Consulting the local Yellow Pages, we have 4 in the area, 2 that I wasn't aware of.

We still have on here wtih two screens, about a 10 minute drive.Haven't been to it in over 20 years but they are still open year round.

I haven't been to a Drive-in in years. One question for those that still go to the Drive-ins that are open. Do they still have the Hot Toddy chocolate drink in the can? That was my favorite.

Just checked and there is one in Vineland, NJ about 50 miles away from my house.

Delsea Drive-in. Reopened in 2004 after closing in 1987. $11.00 admission. Open Spring thru Fall. You can bring in your own food, but you must buy a $20 food permit from them to do so.

There are still quite a few drive-ins operating in the Pittsburgh area, including in Butler PA and Moon Township.

They built a drive in on the outskirts of Richmond a couple of years ago.... you have to get there 2 hours early to get in.... it's a huge hit here... other than that they are all gone

On a non-related topic .... I watched a 2004 "Punisher" movie tonight ... main character was driving a 69 GTO ... even showed a few shots of him building the engine ... and yes it was a pontiac engine.

There is one in Long Prairie MN, about 30 miles from me.

We also had the Rustic DriveIn. Near Greensburg, actually Norvelt,Pa. They had security that would walk around and keep you,welllllll up and up!!!

Got 3 here in Melbourne. One is only a few years old I believe. I'm told it was resurrected after laying dormant for years. I should make the effort and go sometime.

50 years ago, they were very popular but not so sure how many cars were actually watching the movie. Used to be a lot of steamed up windows as I recall. Including mine....;):D;)

There is one in Greenwood SC about 30 minutes from me.

We have one about 35 miles from us in Coldwater, MI called Capri drive-in. We have been before and it’s a nice double screen. My wife just checked current prices a couple weeks ago. It’s now $10 per person for anyone over 11. That’s $50 for us to just get in. Would love to take the 66 GTO but I don’t like driving it that far after dark. It would be a drive through deer park funland...

It’s cool to see there’s so many still around. I remember the ones I went to had a playground for the kids in front of the screen. These days that wouldn’t go over so well. Kids today are very coddled. But then there’s more weirdo’s out there now too.

As recently as ten years ago, the one everyone called "the passion pit" in Hartford, MI was still open. It's real name was The Sunset Drive-In. How original.:p

So I searched it by name: Yep, it's still in business.
It was built in 1948, so this website says it's one of the few remaining from before 1950.

Man, this brings back a bunch of memories for me! I worked at Sunset Drive-In in Evansville IN back in high school (82-83). This was a couple years before it closed down for good. That was a real learning experience for a high school kid. Met my first and only pimp and his "employees". You did NOT want the morning clean-up detail! Absolutely disgusting. We looked like haz-mat workers out there!

To get an idea of our clienteles tastes, we showed "Take this Job and Shove it" for three weeks straight! Packed every night.

Just saw a cool drive-in in Paris KY this last weekend. They were showing "The Lion King" and "Toy Story 4". Nice looking place.
