Pontiac Log style modular header
1 Attachment(s)
Has anyone tried these Turbo headers? It says its for "Air Boats" however I dont see why they would not work for vehicles... as long as it leaves room for accessories.

Nope
Built my own a year ago |
Actually ordered some today. I'll let you know. They'll be going into a second gen T/A
|
|
Looks very nice! If they fit.
|
I could have them made by my Fabrication Shop cheaper than $1600 and made using one of my blocks and heads. But they are very nice looking, and I already have a set made by Turbo455 years ago. (that fit perfectly)

I really like the modular part of it all... Cant wait to see how you get it all built up... I hope they leave room for AC and the rest of the accessories... SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM |

Cool, Erik. What was the price? $799 or $1600? |

Ill purchase them once I'm ready to mock everything up... SPEED SAFE, NICK |
$799 is a very good deal for a PAIR of stainless manifolds,
Could not tell if the add was saying one piece or two pieces. The first link shows ONE header, not TWO Headers and the Number of parts says ONE Why I assumed 1600 for a SET. Tom V. |
Personally,I can't see any benefit of these over a set of decent cast factory manifolds or the Ram Air type cast headers at half the price, especially on a street car. I used a set of ordinary cast iron manifolds many years back on a budget turbo combo, I reversed the manifolds so the outlets were at the front and made a short J pipe to the turbos.
|
I was looking at the Ram Air type however could not tell what position they would land the outlets... And I cant afford to buy a set only to find out they do not work. Topped off with the fact that you are literally the first person to date to say they do work reversed (That I know of).
Do you have any pictures of them installed? Where do the outlets land? One thing I like about the Stainless ones is the fact that they are "Modular" connected with V-bands... I dont need to pay anyone to weld me any custom exhaust pluming. So there is that... If you have any pics of the Ram Air headers installed I would honestly love to see them. Thats what I was searching for when I ran across these. SPEED SAFE, NICK |

I like the basic design, with two headers for $799 you are at the bottom of the $$$ scale for that kind of fabrication work. I have had a lot of stainless fabrication work done over the years at McLaren Racing, Watson Engineering, and Technosports. I did not pay for it, my old employer did.
Thanks for the updated info. Tom V. |
Air Ram, I used ordinary factory cast iron manifolds reversed-I don't think the Ram air manifolds were out then, it was over 20 years ago so I don't have any pics, sorry. The manifold outlets pointed down and came out near cylinders 1 & 2, I had the T4 sized turbos set up in front of the engine and used 2" 'J' pipes to the turbine housings. This was in a European car so I can't say how they would fit in your car, but later on when I switched to naturally aspirated,I swapped a set of Hedman headers side to side so that I could bring the 90 degree collectors out through the front fenders . (it was too tight to get the headers under the car pointing rearwards).

I imagine they would be pushed up and out board... Not exactly where they end up... It would be nice if someone who had a set of the ram air headers and a mock up engine could mount them reversed for a visual... .... .... .... .... ... SPEED SAFE, NICK |

And yes, they were $799 delivered for the pair |

Got a build update picture today from the guy building my headers. He said they'll be out the door today. :D He took that picture last night before he went home. Very nice guy named Steve.
|
Wow... those are some thick flanges! cant wait to see them completed!!!
SPEED SAFE, NICK |
Good day to be a Pontiac with that log manifold!!! You guys have no idea what I have to deal with to get my headers done. I had to make a header and he made a jig out of the one I made and made the bend better as he has access on some tight bend tubing..
|
Yes it is. I was just going to make my own when I saw these available. They will save tons of time and headaches.
|
I have been looking at these as well. I wonder if I could make them work with a March Serpentine system.
|
I reached out to Stainless Header Mfg the other day and here is the response I received.

Good info, I hope he does d ports too.

This will probably make this thread width large but you can see the welding that the gentleman does.

Nice work fair play.
|
I'd be in for a D port log manifold, from here I could get my local to finish the rest with the DP. $800 with v band outlets would be ideal.
|
Web site says they make d ports too.

Guys, Steve from Stainless Headers gave me a breakdown on pricing for a possible Group Purchase.
This is just an estimate, but should be close in terms of pricing: Here is an optional Group Purchase breakdown... Qty 1: $799.90 Qty 3: $784.90 Qty 5: $764.90 Qty 10: $734.95 So I will start the list below. If you would like to add your name... simply copy and past the most current list into a new post and then add your name. I will start: 1) AIR RAM (Nick) (Round Port) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) 9) 10) SPEED SAFE, NICK |
**Not compatible with standard Pontiac "D-Port" heads. Meant to fit stock Ram Air IV heads and all aftermarket variations, i.e. Edelbrock Performer and KRE High Port cylinder heads**
|
Agree, you need to make sure that the "D-Port" applies to Factory Pontiac Cast Iron "D-Port" heads.
I am reading that it applies to aftermarket "D-Port" aluminum heads or to Factory 455 HO and RA-IV Round Port heads as well as Aftermarket Round Port heads. (No RA-V heads or stock cast iron street type Pontiac Heads). Tom V. |
1) AIR RAM (Nick) (Round Port)
2) mysticmissle (JEFF) (roundports) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) 9) 10) |

Similar to how I did my manifolds for d ports. They work fine...
|
This is GREAT stuff! I think there should be posts to link in to the Street, Race, and Exhaust sections to get more exposure...
I SO want to do this, but I'm upside down, cash wise, right now :-/ The D-port (REAL D-ports, not the Round port as a D) design sounds very promising. I'm guessing A, F, X, and B bodies could use the same manifold. |

Cast Iron Log Ford GT manifolds have powered 5.4L engines to 200 plus MPH on the street and at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Custom Built Pontiac Manifolds should be just fine. Tom V. |

jut to confirm ehead dports or kre dports can be accomodated in this group buy? I am trying to drag some of my buddies in lol

SOOO my advice would be to start a NEW list with D-Port guys who are interested in a set of TURBO manifolds. If there is enough of those, it may be enough to verify the market is there for them. Heck Ill even start the list. Quote:

Round ports manifolds look nice....
I really hate seeing all that sealing area being wasted on the latest d-port design... I'd try to make use of all that area plus adding the center bar into it as a structural aid.. pipes can be as intended though. Porous casts and various back pressures will concur with me on this... not to mention other potential factors. Kris |
thanks Nick, i will keep pushing, one has kre ds the other has ehead ds

Ok, I made posts in the Street, Race, and Exhaust sections, plus my IG acct— all directed here. Hopefully we can generate more interest.

I'm interested in a set for round ports. Do you think they will work on the driver side with a March Serpentine kit, along with power steering? Or will I need to do away with the power steering? I want to run a single s480 turbo mounted on the passenger side.

So I pitched a design idea to SSH and Steve said he could definitely do it however it would be more work and the price would reflect. The Idea was to indent one tube into a "D" and then cut another tube into a "C" and weld them together to form a "CD" This would give some distance between the exhaust ports and improve overall performance although the single tube design will work fine with most street performance applications the "CD" design would be an improvement over that.
