Thumbs up thumbs down?

Does everyone have these choices under a post? When did this happen?

77 TRASHCAN 10-16-2019 12:55 PM

I only have a thumbs up....I only noticed this one or two days ago...

oldblueponcho 10-16-2019 01:38 PM

Same here with only a thumbs up, but I didn't notice it till I saw this post.

Firedup6975 10-16-2019 01:53 PM

I have both they are blue like the blue thumbs up on Facebook. I have a thumbs up over the word like, then a white square with a blue number in it, that keeps changing, then a thumbs down. Hmmmmmmmmm interesting.

Firedup6975 10-16-2019 01:59 PM

Someone in the office is playing with upgrades today. :)

Stuart 10-16-2019 02:29 PM

It just showed up in the last day or two. It appears to only be a thumbs up, or thanks option - I don't see a thumbs down. When you click on it your name will appear underneath the post showing you thanked the person.

Here is what I have on my posts. If you scroll over the thumbs down thumb i con, it says dislike.

dataway 10-16-2019 03:38 PM

I think old format has only thumbs up, new format has both.

I like the idea of both.

eric_cspan 10-16-2019 04:03 PM

I am tinkering with it. Be patient. It's a good feature to have making it more like Facebook.
You will also be able to 'share' the post/thread much more easier.

Simple Man 10-16-2019 05:43 PM

Wasn't something similar tried a while back?

I have found that the majority of the active members won't hesitate to voice their opinion on whether they like or dislike the contents of a post - and will continue to do so.

Will the like/dislike icon, when hovered over, also show the names of those who like/dislike a particular post - similar to F?. Maybe if an opinionated but less knowledgeable member gets a multitude of dislikes the member will cease to post on a thread. That would be good.
Also, if it would impact on those who's posts deviate from the intent of the thread, it would be good.

BOB VIDAN 10-16-2019 06:11 PM

Do I have to use my thumb only?

242177P 10-16-2019 06:17 PM

Making it more like Facebook seems counterproductive.

hobbygto65 10-16-2019 06:22 PM

I think it's a bad idea. If you don't have something good to say don't say it. Thumbs down will just cause bad feelings.

Bentwheelbob 10-16-2019 07:01 PM

I’m not a fan as currently configured. The thumbs up/thumbs down is relative to the overall thread so it doesn’t need to be repeated on all posts. In fact it is overly repetitive having it on every reply, and having it jammed right below the reply with no space is distracting. Just stick it on the original post in the subject line and those that are inclined to vote can go back there to voice their opinion.

The ability to thumbs up or thumbs down each individual reply might be handy if and when Chef of the 60’s get’s out of PY jail.

unruhjonny 10-16-2019 07:07 PM

I too just noticed this!

I liked how in the past you could "like"(??) a post if you found it helpful, so I see no harm in this...
I prefer the "PY Online 2015" theme, so I'd hope that if changes are to be implemented, that they would work for any/all themes.

Thinking likewise. Why the need to make it "more like Facebook"? Have you visited the "improved" Classical Pontiac site?

Firedup6975 10-16-2019 07:18 PM

Personally I like the....rate the thread option better with the stars rating. However I am open to trying this new Administrative decision to add the thumbs up or down and see how it goes.

Ohhh and I will be horribly upset  if people thumbs down my posts.

NOT! :pound::D

No, making it more like Facebook Sucks!. JMO

'ol Pinion head 10-16-2019 08:41 PM

Get rid of it, nothing but trouble down the road.

ANDYA 10-16-2019 08:51 PM

I vote for getting rid of the thumbs. Lets keep the forums simple so we can just enjoy them without the extra drama.

Heybuck 10-16-2019 09:03 PM

NO THUMBS.:gag:

Why on earth are you trying to fix something which is not broken?????:confused::confused:

I agree!!

bird72 10-16-2019 09:05 PM

All good, until someone pokes their eye out :)

tooski 10-16-2019 10:13 PM

It looks like you can only do it for the thread. Liking/disliking an individual post cannot (so far) be done. Therefore it is not needed to appear in every post. My personal opinion is it is not needed at all. I remember a thread titled something like this: 'Facebook Shmacebook'.

brut4s 10-17-2019 09:49 AM

The thumbs up is good, but the thumbs down might cause more conflict. A like button may be better

napster 10-17-2019 10:19 AM

Do away with the thumbs.

Firedup6975 10-17-2019 10:43 AM

I did NOT intend to make this a debate on wether the up and down thumbs should stay or go, and it’s not up for a “vote” the Administrators decide what may or not be a good or bad upgrade to this site. It that we’re the case there would be a poll posted. My understanding is this new feature is something Administrators are tinkering with at this time.

My initial reaction to seeing this under my post, was to see if others could see it as well, not to create a debate that’s not our decision unless it’s posted as a poll.

That being said, I embrace and respect the Administrators decisions on trying possible upgrades to the site.

I don't like it.

Baron Von Zeppelin 10-17-2019 12:01 PM

I only have a "Thanks" icon with a Thumbs Up

i LIKE the implied suggestion of Bob Vidan - offering use of other fingers could get fun
and inspire more replies/interaction/team spirit/humor

Firedup6975 10-17-2019 12:11 PM

Not sure what if anything more the thumbs up and down may possibly be able to do other than rate the post, but we will have to wait and see when the Administrators finish tinkering, but as of now I view it as the same choice as the rate this thread stars choices, which I see members are still using.

I cannot recall what I was seeing yesterday, but that's what I am seeing now;
I actually prefer this over "like".

middle finger !

wow i enjoyed that one , sorry MA
lol

61-63 10-17-2019 01:50 PM

When I bring a thread up, any thread, I'm seeing 42 likes and 8 thumbs down. On and and all of them. I tried voting an up and then a down and could do it both ways, once, for each one?

This whole deal is unnecessary clutter IMO.

Firedup6975 10-17-2019 02:03 PM

I too am seeing the same on every thread, not sure why, but it may have something with the Admins tweaking it and watching to see what the up grade is actually doing?

Especially for those that do a thumbs down with their name shown. That is not a good idea. Besides... this isn't Facebook. ;) If it was I wouldn't be here... I hate Facebook, Twitter, and all the other crap like them. You couldn't pay me to have and use any of them. :gag:

To each his or her own Gary and I get it about Face Book, but I found a Cousin I haven’t seen since I was 11 years old and I’m 63 now. :)

Oh and as far as the thumbs down thing, it appears the thumbs thing is just like the rate a thread thing with the Stars, you can’t see how or who is giving a thumbs up or down. but I give you a thumbs up Garykins. Lol.:poke::D

bird72 10-17-2019 08:29 PM

It is more the norm, than not, to have that feature on blogs, news comments, and FB and more. I see it as no big deal. It also is a way to compliment / agree with a poster without posting a response itself. On FB Pontiac sites, it is a way to compliment someone's car without posting anything. So a newbie with 100 likes on their car feels good. I don't really see it used as a doomsday evil weapon on the car sites. I am surprised at the opinions against here, it is so common anymore.

Baron Von Zeppelin 10-17-2019 08:55 PM

I just want to put in another plug for the middle finger option that Bob V. suggested. ;)

And in our user profile it can keep a running tabulation of how many times someone shot us the middle finger.

"This user has been shot the rod 527 times in 14 posts" .. etc..

Firedup6975 10-18-2019 04:51 PM

So I see the thumbs down choice is now gone, and just the like or thumbs up thumb is there. :)

beertracker 10-19-2019 10:05 PM

I don't like the thumbs up or down. Making it more like Facebook is counter productive. Everything Facebook does is not good and should not be copied: tread gently when it comes to intellectual property. If you don't have something good to say don't post it. Thumbs down will only lead to negative feelings. I feel this entire post is thumbs down.

Once again I find myself in agreement with bird72.

I've been wishing for a thumbs up kind of feature as it's really handy to be able to just give a good post a bit of a boost rather than having to copy it then write "well said" or "I agree" or "that's right" or "right on" or .... whatever. Doing that clutters up a thread a lot more than just hitting the like/thumbs up button. This works well on other car forums I belong to. Nothing says you have to use it if you don't like it.

I do like the idea of the middle finger button... LOL!
