just see them on ebay, claim to flow 289 @ 600 lift. look like maybee ehead knock offs but also look like nice combustion chambers. anyone check them out yet?


ill stay with sd butler or kre for heads but still interested in how these are. i mean those are better flow numbers than eheads out of the box

I refuse to buy a product made in China when there is an American made alternative. Add to the fact that it is almost an exact copy of the Edelbrock head which is designed, engineered and built in the United States. Vic Jr spent a pile of money to bring us Pontiac guys a pretty darn good cylinder head, and for us to buy a cheap knock off of his effort is a slap in his face.

You will see a similar response from me in each of the Speedmaster threads because it is a subject important enough to me to do so.

Let your conscience be your guide.

It has been said years ago Vic, jr tried to produce in Mexico. The quality was damn near impossible to control, so he built the state of the art foundry in the U.S.

I dont disagree with you as the Chinese have stolen lots of products from the usa... however, I tested the quality of the aluminum and it was spot on...
Not saying buy it but it is a quality product based on tensile test and spectrometer....

Allot of people running eagle rods and cranks. To each their own. I have 4 sets of e heads so I have made an investment in their product. When your looking to save some money on a build and as Scott stated they are as advertised it's good enough for me. Just my opinion

The reason I have never bought a set of Edelbrock heads is because they are too damned high priced. AMC and olds heads are significantly cheaper from Edelbrock than Pontiac heads are. I'm just not convinced Pontiac heads should be the most expensive street type aluminum head that Edelbrock makes. I'm fairly certain that olds and AMC combined don't sell a larger quantity of heads than Pontiac heads do. All 3 are orphaned engines so there is no advantages to the lower priced offerings.

All my projects have iron round port, and D port heads because of the expense of buying aluminum Edelbrock heads.

Edelbrock also jumped on the D port bandwagon after Kauffman went out on a limb, and brought aluminum D ports to market. If you want to talk about someone else copying the guys that made the first aluminum D port heads look at Edelbrock, they aren't that much different than Kaufman D ports are.

If Larry Wenzler hadn't started the ball rolling would Edelbrock ever have made a Pontiac head?

I've heard that Arnie and other people high on the Pontiac totem pole begged Vic Edelbrock for years before he finally gave in and started production for Pontiacs, and was still not 100% convinced he'd sell enough heads to make money. I think maybe that is why he set the price so high, then he kept it high. $2-300 higher priced than olds and AMC per head. I've never heard a satisfactory reason why they are so high priced over other street type Performer heads.

I don't expect Pontiac heads to be priced like a SBC is, but they are easily the highest priced aluminum street type head Edelbrock sells. maybe the Speedmaster will bring Edelbrock to a more realistic price, but maybe not... :noidea:

Capitalism has been known to cause competition, and bring down prices on inflated items. Look what happened to GM sheetmetal prices once they had competition for body parts.....;)

Hate to sound like a broken record but...

To set the record straight, these heads are designed and tooled in Australia, raw castings are cast in a state of the art gravity die cast foundry in China, the raw castings are shipped to California where they are CNC machined and assembled.

We have sold plenty of these heads and have a set running on the Injun for the dragster right now. Zero Issues.

i seen on the sm sight they are offering 78cc heads now, i wondered if its a typo for 87cc but i also see there 230cfm runners vs 215. think if the bare castings go on sale black friday i might snag a pair just for the helluvit

They're offering CNC ported runners that have been flowed, around 300 cfm IIRC.

I emailed Speedmaster. They confirmed after CNC the comb chamber they are 78 cc.

the cnc ported head had a different chamber than the cnced standard offering 72cc? someone must have confirmed this in 12 months they have been available?
is 78 any better than 72? still cant use it on a 455 wo race gas or e85 i wouldn't think

91 octane pump gas on all of mine with no issues, Race gas when spraying.

One is a 464 and the other is a 462
The 464 is 11.7 something and the 462 is 11.98.1 cams are simuliar

12:1 on 91 octane pump gas, this goes against the limits generally accepted. I'm curious about this maybe the accepted standard is incorrect or it's the cam duration and LSA that is critical. I am building a new engine right now that has E-heads with the earlier style combustion chamber and my compression is coming in around 11.75 with a zero deck and .04 thick gasket. I would like to have a pump gas engine even though it a track only car. I have been told 11.75 is too high for pump gas so I was planning on milling the heads for more compression since I would need race gas anyhow. If I can use 91 or 93 pump gas at 11.75:1 That would be my preference. Comments? Thoughts on this?

That odds of you being able to run straight pump gas all the time and not knock the rod bearing out are slim. You'll need to spike it with race gas to be safe.

My motor is 11.2:1 static CR with a cam similar to Tim's and I have run straight 93 pump and a 70/30 mixture of 93/110 octane without any signs of detonation. I've had the motor apart and the rod bearings were all good. It's not 12:1, but is a data point for reference.

I am curious how/why blueghost gets away with 12:1 on 91 octane. I'm not going to risk hurting my new engine by trying to push the limit. I think I'll stick to my original plan and mill the heads to get about 12.75:1 and continue to use 110 race gas. The engine I'm building is to replace the previous engine which I was using Sonoco 110 and that engine had 12.3:1. I will use the same cam as was in the previous engine but will put 1.65 rockers on the new build and the previous engine had 1.5's. The previous engine had valve to piston restrictions, but the new build will not.

I'm also curious about that! Why not just bump the comp to 13 and run E85?

People sure like that E85 once they make the switch. The nice thing about it is converting your system/ carb over to it is not near the undertaking converting to straight alcohol is.
I wish it was available here without the 4 hour drive.

I know that alcohol is corrosive I am not sure about if 85% alcohol will corrode my fuel system or if I have to purge the system after every event like alcohol racers do. And I don't think we even have E-85 in my area. I would need to re-jet, larger squirters change timing, might even have to go with a colder plug. Seems like a lot of extra work to get an ideal tune. If they had E-85 in my area it might be worth the fuel savings. It's a thought but most likely I will stick with race gas I get it by the 55 gallon drum so that is convenient.

Sacramento is done. Samoa Drag Strip (Eureka CA) is going strong.
Trying to keep it 1/4 mile as Redding CA has went to the 1/8th.

from the high percent of overlap which in turn lowers compression and
with the alluminium heads which you can run more compression makes it
able to get away with the higher compression if that makes any sense.
All I kmow is that it works for me and a lot of my friends in the same situation
I've always used race gas when dynoing my motor for the ease of reading
the plugs, they stay cleaner but the next time I use the dyno I'm going
to run pump gas first and the race gas and maybe even E-85 just to see
what kind of power it makes over gas.
And some thing I've found that usually any thing under 200LBS of
cranking compression is usually safe for pump gas. I hope this helps
any one trying to run pump gas and higher compression.

When you dyno it next time, what do you think about running race gas first and get you max power number. Then switch over to pump gas. If my theory is right your power should be the same or go slightly up if you are not detonating.
E85 you are going to need a different carb unless you want to do a bunch of work on dyno time. It would be cool to compare it all.
I am a pump gas guy and my High Port 461 is 11.5-1 static CR. I have started out with 99 octane mix and will go to a 95 mix, Finally 92 all pump gas if everything looks good.
It cranked 175 psi, but that was before the engine was ever started. It might come up a tad with broken in rings.
Can you post a cam card ?

My RAIV 400 I was racing in the old NMCA Top Stock had no audible detonation on pump gas but picked up 8 hp on race gas at it's 10.25:1.

Could you, run lower static compression, smaller cam to build more dynamic and end up at the same place, power wise?

With a longer duration cam the valves are open for a longer period of time allowing more complete cylinder filling and more time for exhaust scavenging which increases volumetric efficiency (VE). With both valves being open longer during overlap allows the gas discharge to speed up and creates a super charging effect which further increases VE especially at peak torque RPM. Also the more compression the more VE. With a smaller cam and lower compression all these properties decrease so to answer your question, NO.
