My hooptie, maybe it will be painted by summer time?? It's currently lowered but I think I will go back to the raised stance, has more of a 70's look to it.

I probably should be working.... The pic that is hard to see is actually a dual axle 6 wheeled crazy thing. Wish I had more pictures.

I used to have pictures of, I'm guessing, a carousel red? 73 GTO at the drag strip parked by its trailer. Likely a national event. Car was super clean, big tire tubbed car, fitted with glass front end and decklid. Cant believe I cant find them. That car has been an inspiration to me for many years. I would love to see those again if anyone has them.

All of Paul's GTOs are spectacular. He's had several of his cars on the cover of Hemmings Muscle Machines.

This '73 was built as Pontiac should have done it- Super Duty 455 with the ultra rare functional Ram Air and a 4 speed, all done as if it were factory correct. I thought I had more pictures of it, but all I can find right now are the above and this one with my kids blocking it, :p You can see the Ram Air setup at least.

Looks good. Interesting that it looks like it's actually a Luxury Lemans with GTO grilles put on it. It has all the LL body side moldings and trunklid molding...and Grand Am tail lights.

So what actually makes a Colonnade, a Colonnade?

I'll be honest, until this thread, I've never heard a LeMans called a Colonnade.

It applies to all of the 73-77 GM a-body cars. It's a name that GM coined for them because of the thick B-pillar and the stationary quarter window. More sturdy in a roll-over. I have a picture from the 73 Pontiac dealer brochure that I'll put up in a minute.

Notice under each picture, they have "colonnade" in the description:

I finally got to go and meet Paul. I scored some outer wheel houses for my 73 off him. He showed me his collection. I was floored to say the least. Never did I ever see so many ready-to go-tri power intakes ready to go. His place is a like a museum, and as you said, all of his GTOs are indeed, spectacular cars.

I may have shed a tear seeing that '73 you speak of in person. I've never see a nicer one in my life. Going out there tomorrow for some more stuff.

1975 Pontiac Lemans Sport I paid $75.00 for in 1993. The 350CI smoked bad, but the car ran. Nice black body that was straight except for the crunched nose - seems most Pontiac A-bodies of this generation have the nose busted. Never did anything with it as I went through a divorce shortly thereafter and the car, along with a couple others, went to the crusher. Life goes on.

1976 Pontiac Lemans I bought off my brother in Florida with 78,000 around 1995 after my divorce. I drove it for a number of years until one day a car in front of me did a panic stop. I had some good distance between us. The brakes worked fine, but the tires let me down as I slid into the rear of him like sliding into home plate in slow motion, not able to veer off the shoulder because of a 4-foot deep drainage ditch and telephone pole. Messed up the right side nose and bent the frame rail. Still drove it a little before parking it in 1998 with 150,000. I drove the heck out of that car. It sits behind my house in sorry shape because I can't bring myself to scrap it because some day............................... LOL

Hmmm, I haven't seen that in my experience. Over the years I've rarely seen a wrecked nose on a Lemans, so not that common to me, yours being a rare exception. Mabye a regional thing?

The Grand Ams are a different story of course, with noses that rarely survived due to the bad urethane that cracked and broke up over time.

Hope you get that 76 going again someday :) .

I bought a '77 Can-Am when I lived in CT, same deal, took a hit to the nose and frame was bent. The frames are made in such a way to collapse.

I have been in a number of scrap yards years ago, always keeping my eye out, most every one had a smacked nose, at least here in the southern region - even several Grand-Ams which I would have used. The cars weigh so much with all the anti-rollover protection, side door impact bars, and crash bumpers that I attribute it to tire choice. The brakes work great for such a large car, but if you run a narrow tire or a low cost tire, the tires just can't hold the heavy car back. I think the old 70 series tires should have been the smallest tire to use. I had 15" tires and they were not very wide compared to a 70 series tire of the day.

The only parts I have seen are on complete still running/driving cars and no sense buying one only to rob parts to get my running again. It was a great car. Crappy gas mileage around town with all the stop and go making the 350CI work hard to get the 2.73 geared sled rolling, but on the interstate @ 70 MPH, I could squeeze 20 MPG (no A/C on the car) on my long trips to visit family (with the Q-jet I added).

My work in progress, 74 Lemans GT Honduras Maroon with Burgandy Interior. 350 2 barrel carb with Manual 3 speed on the floor with Bench seat since switched to a M-20 4 speed. P/S with manual brakes, Disc front drum rear 3:23 rear. Have all orig paperwork from dealer, I added the Naca hood.

My first car... 75 Cutlass S with white interior with the swiveling front bucket seats. It had the Olds 350; ran great once "de-emissionized" and running dual exhaust with cherry bombs :)

I will forever have a soft spot for the colonnades, and hope to get a Pontiac version someday when space permits.

Mark, I still have the Can Am you posted the picture of. Incredible for me to realize that I took that picture over 20 years ago, when I first got it.

I am still the admin of the defunct ABodySite, I tried to log into it for the first time today after taking it offline at least two years ago due to overwhelming spam. (All the forum data and posts were still there, just locked in time.) ... Go figure, the site was down -reliability is just like the old days.

I bought the Admiralty Blue one new in 1974. The Ascot Silver one I bought in June 2019.
