Steve Ames has passed away.
 

For those that are on Facebook, there have been a few posts by Ames Performance and I think the GTOAA that Steve Ames is fighting for his life. Sounds very serious. Just wanted to let those here that are not on FB know. Keep him in your prayers. Thanks.

Our founder and a huge supporter of the hobby, Steve Ames, is currently fighting for his life. Steve has given so much to the Pontiac world, there is no way in telling where we would be without him. We ask that everyone keep him in your prayers during these trying times.

I met him at a local swap meet in 1985 in Massachusetts. I thought he was old then. My guess is he is in his late 70's or early 80's.

I believe that he is 77/78.

He has done more for the Pontiac hobby than anyone else in my opinion.
I met him at a swap meet in 1978 and we have been friends since then.

I saw this earlier on Facebook. Again, prayers sent for Steve and ll those affected by this sad event.

I've met Steve before when I was just starting out selling the Pontiac T Shirts in I believe 2008. I knew he had a bout with PMD/GM over trademark infringement, and asked him as he was walking through the show field what I should do, or if I was in fact I was infringing on the trademark. He took about 15 minutes out of his day to give me some very insightful information at the Schenectady NY/GTO show. I followed his advice to the letter, and it was great advice.

He didn't have to take the time to talk to me, but did just because I asked him some questions. Very nice man, and I'll never forget his kindness to a total stranger. I of course knew he was, but he didn't know me from Adam.

I recently asked for prayers for my mother, and the people on PY responded overwhelmingly. I will return the favor for Steve. Prayers sent for a full recovery Lord, and comfort for all his family.

It would be a shame to lose someone who has freely given back to this hobby, as he has.

Steve Ames got the hobby going before Casperson and Spotts, and MAYBE Kirban.

I meet Steve in 1988 at Carlisle. Great guy with a tone of Pontiac knowledge. We all have many stories of how he helped us out. I was finishing up my 70 GTO and asked him if he had saddle carpet at Carlisle. Told me to follow him over the ACC vendor got my carpet from them and sold it to me for his price. Just one of many things Steve has done for a lot of us.
So get well my friend get strong and see you at Carlisle.

Apparently Steve fell, hit his head, had an internal brain bleed, had surgery, and now is in a coma.

This is per an email from Marge Sawruk dated yesterday afternoon.

BTW... as I heard years ago, from talking to him, he had sold Ames Performance and was only making restoration parts to sell. I was trying to get him to make the parking light lenses for 66 and 67 GTOs in amber.

I had the opportunity to meet him a few times he is one of the greats in the Pontiac community has done so much for the Pontiac restoration world. Get well Mr. Ames we all are praying for you.

My Dad and I met Steve in 1995 at our first Tri Power Sunday and he has been a friend ever since!! He is a terrific ambassador for the Pontiac hobby and we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude!! We are praying for him and sending positive thoughts and kindness his way!! We can't wait to see you in Norwalk, Steve!!

Prayers being sent, hope he pulls through.
My brother fell while roller skating a couple years ago and was in the hospital for 3 months. Other than losing his job to Covid, he's doing OK now.

Hoping for a complete recovery for Steve Ames. A great ambassador for our hobby. He has done so much, always with a smile. Best wishes in recovery.

I just got the bad news that Steve has passed away.

Another sad day in the Pontiac world. RIP and thank you for all that you have done for all of us!

Was was the cause?

Apparently he had fallen and hit his head and was in a coma. But he didn't make it through. Sucks. 20 years ago today my dad's best friend, a real car guy, passed away from lung cancer.

Mostly Fords as he had a Model T, 55 T-Bird, 1966 GT350H(SN1899) and a 1964 289 Cobra(CSX2284) and a 1972 Buick 455 GS Convertible.

Where would we be without Steve's forward thinking and the reproduction of parts for these fugitives from the Junkyard? A sad day in the Pontiac world indeed.

Very sad news, my condolences to his family.

It sounds eerily similar to what happened to Dave Bennett (former president of POCI and PY board member TININDN) some years ago, he fell and hit his head.

I combined the two discussions about Steve, and edited the title so all responses will be in one place.

My condolences to Steve's family RIP. Brother inlaw passed the same way fell of a latter and hit his head two years ago. Be careful guy's we aren't getting younger.

Sucks- hate to hear this. While we think of everything he did for us and our hobby, the holidays will never be the same for his family

Condolences to Steve's family AND the entire Pontiac community. We lost a founding member of our hobby. He definitely left his mark on the world, something that few ever get to do. Anytime we go to a Pontiac show and see a large gathering of beautifully restored cars we can thank Steve Ames. RIP Steve.
