It's been a long time since I posted anything on the Tempest. Her name is "Rita". Named after my late mother-in-law. A truly great woman.
Rita runs 8:60 at 157 mph on 5 lbs of boost as of the end of 2020. She is getting more boost for 2021. Shooting for low 8's.

Rick,

Nice Tempest and 8:6 to boot.
Where did you run this year since Joliet was closed?
Sure would like to see you run it sometime.

Fyi, we both work at the same place.

Clean.

Tasteful.

Incredibly quick and fast!

Beautiful factory styling on these early Tempests that’s all too often overlooked.

Congrats on a perfectly executed race machine.

Bart :)

I could have bought a red convertible but turned it down. :(

The Tempest looks amazing!

Does your car have the stock front end or is it done away with and a modern coil over modern type installed? I'm thinking a modern one but wanted to ask to be sure.

Ya' know, 61's and 62's are not my cup 'o tea style-wise but I just love the looks and stance of this one. Very well done! Bravo sir.

Ran mostly at Byron this year. It's a bit of a trip for one day but it was the only option. Joliet is only 20 minutes from me.

Damn ! About 50 years ago I sent 2 '62 Tempest's to the junk yard. 1 was a Lemans. Maroon with Black buckets.

I turned down a '63 Wagon with a 326 in it for $600!!!:(:(:(

Had a big dent in the quarter panel but otherwise solid.

I’m kicking myself now!

1971. I bought the 62 Lemans . The owner said reverse was not working.
I paid him 10 bucks and drove it home 65 miles.
TRUE STORY !

I love the body lines on the 62. Very wicked looking!

What a beautiful build!

There is a 62 wagon in Houston for sale cheap and it looks solid- your build makes me wish I didn’t have so many projects!

Your car is badass!! As an owner of a 62 this is the best yet. I have hopes of running my car on the salt flats some day? Obviously going to require lots of work.

Darren 639 12-29-2020 05:10 AM

WOW. Is that front clip one piece fiberglass? I know the 63’s do. not sure 62 molds were ever made? I think I see the hood a deck lid are dzus fastened. maybe just the hood and deck are available fiberglass? Reason for asking I called VFN a few years ago (probably 25 lol) and they didn’t seem interested in making anything for the 62 at that time. Extremely nice job on whole car.

thepontiacman 12-29-2020 09:13 AM

Nice looking car . Very clean , well done.

Good luck toward low 8's and have lots of fun with it.

Looks like Arnie likes it.

Chief stole my thunder with this post. I was going to post the same pic and say virtually the same thing. Love the look of the car.

Hope you have some video to share of your car flying down the strip.

RA462 01-06-2021 01:25 PM

That is the nicest 62 I have ever seen. Who did the chassis work? I'm building a 63 right now. More details please.

brut4s 01-06-2021 07:46 PM

Love the looks of the early Tempests but too damn small for me.
