70 Catalina in el Paso
 

Just placed a few days ago at the west side pick a part. ‘70 Catalina sedan . Viewed yesterday it is still nearly complete. Even wing nut was on air cleaner. Very good front clip and bumpers, front and rear.
400 2V engine is complete. Brackets power steering etc. Power Drum car. Perhaps there is someone within a days drive who can benefit from this. Rain this week so the usual crowds and vultures are less in number.

That alternator is minty! Always liked those wheel covers on the driver’s side.

Good ole El Paso, my old stomping grounds when younger. I am going to be around SW NM a lot more, so EP will be in my range of travels. You remind me it is the land of clean sheet metal.....

That car is loaded with good straight parts. Very unusual to see a car of that age in a pick and pull, at least around here. Both front and rear bumpers are very straight and great cores.

The alternator condition tells of approximately when someone may have last worked on it. No corrosion showing. May not have been long ago when someone tried to get it going!!!

That car looks like it could be a driver without too much trouble. Looks can be deceiving but just saying...

It is fairly rare to see fifty year old cars in yards down here. They are almost always large bodied four doors. Or strange odd balls such as Renault or AMC. The pick a parts have burned through a lot of remaining old cars in the 10-12 years they’re been in operation here. Most cars in these yards are belly button 00’s fwd, suvs, and a lot of discarded trucks of all kinds.
The alternator was likely swapped out for a chain store reman unit. Yard said it “runs” with white marker on windshield. The interior is pretty bad, dried out, cracked, with gooey steering wheel from sun exposure.
Am not trying to sell anything from this, just posting it up. My days of buying inventory to try to sell are over. Too difficult. “Junkyard Dog” and “row 52” were almost complete busts. I do know a full time seller who maybe? would be willing to pull parts and ship, but cannot guarantee anything. Maybe someone within a days drive could benefit from this car. Dave S

I check the inventory list every week to see what they dropped down and went out today to check on a 68 El Camino / manual trans that was laid down a few days ago. Coastal rust bucket. Rear axle and interior already gone as was the power steering gear which is what I was looking to see. 327 was still in the car and what appeared to be an automatic. Clutch pedal was cut off. But I did get a drivers side fresh air vent for $7 so it wasn't total bust.

Had some really Golden Oldies in the yard.

yep southern california is where the "pick a part" concept took hold, from what Ive heard. Just wish they would have had the idea to attempt to sell some of the older cars, whole. Instead of dumping them in the "general population". Too much bother, I guess.

Lotta rules on that one. Some states won't even consider a car in a salvage yard as something that can be brought back to life. Others don't care. Most yards in SoCal had a holding lot for selling their complete cars that had some intrinsic value at the time - in the early 2000s it was 2nd gen Trans Ams\Camaros and random '60s 2 door cars they would hold for often ridiculous prices - but everything eventually goes out into the yard.

It depends on the individual state. In Florida there are two kinds of salvage titles: salvage rebuildable which can be restored to roadworthy and salvage cetificate of destruction (COD) which can be used only for parts.

If you can take three different COD cars (different VINs) and assemble one, a deputy can certify the result and Florida will issue a new VIN that can be titled, registered , and insured.

Asssembled cars have little value but it can be done. A clean Florida title with no branding adds about $300 to the value of a car. Some people here (mostly who have been burned before) won't touch a car with an out-of-state title. It took me over a year to get a proper title for the Judge and I had all of the paperwork.

Padgett, are you saying an out of state salvage or a running car title? When I bought my 74 Grand Am from Pennsylvania, I drove it to south Florida and transferred the title with no problems. Easy, peasy..

Was at the U Pull on Friday, had a few hours off. Someone had taken the hood hinges, the carb, and air cleaner, and removed the steel wheels although not much else had been taken.
Seems that they were after miscellaneous front end hardware. The front clip was loose, hanging loose. The front skirts were lying on the ground. Bottoms of front fenders were good, only a tiny hole at extreme bottom rear of heel. Inner braces are fine. The headlight bezels were on the ground!! so I did buy those, and the alternator.
Alternator # is 1102491 did a search but only thing that came up was a joint called "ram air ranch" selling one for $299! Guess it had a more favorable date code, this one is 6 B 4.

Is externally regulated. (Delcotron 10SI) A google search was inconclusive, but am going with Feb 4th, 1966. guessing general application.

Possibly the front half with the ID numbers is mated to an earlier external half.

That ID # is for a 1975-77 37 amp alternator usually 6 cylinder application). The date code is for 1976.

Yep guess then the rebuilder put a 10 SI and a 12 SI half together. Thanks for the input.

No, it would be a 10SI front mated to a 10DN back half.
All the main components are in the back half.
The ID is on the front half.

If it works, use it as an external regulated alternator.

Have to wonder - what in the heck is the Ebay one from "ram air ranch" Another ebay guy was calling his a Chevy / GMC truck alternator.

All the front clip parts are loose, on ground. Easy pickings. The front doors are gutted, probably for someone’s impala sedan project.
