Hibernation Time
 

The time has come up here in the Midwest to put some of the toys into hibernation for the cold weather months. Yesterday I had some time so I moved things around, got the "winter" G/P out of the corner and moved the Firebird into it's spot until spring.
I do have enough room behind it to swap tailights with the new led panels that finally arrived (6 month wait). They were probably in a container floating off of California all that time.
The Solstice will still be usable until they start salting the roads. Then it will take it's place right next to the Bird.

I shuffled summer and winter cars around in the garage yesterday as well. The weather is still fine, but this time of year it could change any day.

Yes that time of year has come. I put my 64 away a few weeks ago, but I use the same system you do, put it on dolls and push it over towards the way to make more room. More things to go in there as weather turns.

Mine is ready to drive All year long. Sometimes it may be 3weeks before the roads are clean enough in winter however. I try to drive it for 30 minutes or more within 2 week period.

Until they salt the roads mine will still be driven occasionally

I used to wait longer in the fall to do the switch, but my garage isn't heated and at some point I realized it was an easier task when it wasn't freezing outside. :) I'm sure some of the guys in southern states will chime in about how they drive their cars year round, but in our defense it's kind of like getting a new car every spring when the weather moderates. It also helps to have a fun winter car.

I've driven my cars in every month of the year.

Having said that, my cars left my old shop (sold house/closed on Thursday) and I was able to find storage at a racing buddy's dad's place. Heated, private storage for the GTO and the Camaro until our new home is finished sometime next summer.

Our temporary townhouse rental only has a 2 stall garage, so that wasn't an option.

New home plans currently show 1530 sq ft of garage space - subject to the final design. When done, that will give me the option of driving whenever the urge and the weather allow....

I used to do the same ritual when I lived in Wisconsin for many years but not anymore. Actually down here in FL the next 6 months are the best for cruising as it is a bit too toasty in the summer months for long drives! It was neat though in mid April or so in Wisconsin when you could finally start driving again. Stay warm all.

I'm like dpoltzer. Here in south Georgia about the only difference is I won't be running the A/C as much and I will be doing more top down driving as the weather will be more favorable for it.

As long as there’s a clear driveway mine will be started once a week and backed out and driven out one driveway into the other then let run until they warm up good, and back inside. If it’s a warm day above 50 and the roads haven’t been salted, I will go for a little cruise through town and back. Birds gotta fly.

Hibernation Time
 

Forced hibernation here. Scheduled this Monday the 1st for rotator cuff surgery. (Right shoulder and 4spd car ouch) not looking forward to more pain. Today I managed to cruze the city for over an hour. Had a great time but gasoline is around $5 a gallon in Los Angeles.

Rain has caused a long pause. Maybe some drydays this coming week.

Hoping the temps stay decent, want to go to the Chariots of Fire car show out at Morgantown Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, in November.

Going out today , do some road art….. . It’s coming to a swift end around here also . Last day our track is open , not sure with colder asphalt if it’s worth the effort.

Luckily here in the beach, we have little to no hibernation time, and our events run right into Dec.

Things have changed. When I was 16 I went to look at a '64 Corvette for $2000. Looked great till I move to the passenger side and the RR 1/4 was half there. Seller said the "chains" came loose.:drive:

Floor is ceramic tile. It has been down for over 10 years and holding up well (yes I do use the garage for projects).
The "bird" is inset ceramic tile and has a 36" wingspan. My avatar is a photo of that medallion.

I look forward to the winter months. I drive my cars more regularly then. The summer heat here in the CA central valley can be brutal. Old cars don't like heat and baking sun.

Wow vega’s must have shipped with no fluids. You would think every fluid would leak at those angles.

Well, just washed her and put her away. She's got a fresh, full tank of ethanol free gas, fresh oil, fuel stabilizer, trickle charger. That's it I guess. Nothing but rain here for the next few months.

It is not bad putting the car away for the winter, it allows me to get things changed or modified for next year. I plan improvements during driving season and then work on them over the winter. I drove my car yesterday, in the 60's, until the cold front came in, to the gas station to fill up with non ethanol gas for the winter. They are saying possible snow this weekend.

Think I set the record this year in Mi. Had the GTO out for a ride this week after I had already taken the battery out. She's back in hibernation now with her other Pontiac relatives.
