US Army - 1972 through 1978.

Spent the majority of my time in Europe - mostly in Germany but had 2 special assignments to NATO HQ in Belgium. Finished my 6 years with an 18 month tour at the Pentagon.

That 6 years did a lot to shape me as a person.

When I was a kid everything was closed on this day, which we call Remembrance Day here. I don't know how that ever changed.

After basic at Lackland and tech school in Amarillo my first duty station was at Williams AFB, Arizona.
The last year of duty at CCK Air Base in Taiwan.

Similar experience - made Chief Torpedoman the same year I was selected for LDO. Surface guy stuck into the submarine community as an officer. 25 years 6 months 18 days in my shadow box. I was a weapons nuke as opposed to a 'damn nuke' ... :D

As Wild Bill knows those first two years as an ensign were like a Chief's initiation that just wouldn't end....

Bill, I'm curious: How did they handle your pay? I'm sure a master chief makes more than an ensign. Did you take a pay cut, or was their some special circumstance in play for mustangs?

I was in the Army and my have things changed since I was in.
My MOS 91h is now 68b most medical MOSs moved away from 91 designations
There is now co-ed basic training
No more shark attack in basic training
It is still the best right of passage I have ever done in my life and others will also go through as well. Home of the Brave and land of the free.

To answer your question Doc they had a "Save Pay" program so I was getting the higher of the two pay checks which was Master Chief at the time. I started making more $$$ when I made 03- Lieutenant. :D
Trust me Mustang Officers don't take any crap from the OCS Officers or the "Ring Knockers" (Naval Academy Grads) :eek:
