73 formula SD
I found a 73 formula SD455,4 speed car, maroon color. It’s been sitting in a garage since 1983. I don’t see any rust, but it needs everything from sitting so long. 48000 miles. Does anyone have an idea of the value?

:eek::eek::eek:
Don't know on price, but need more info and pics? Is the SD engine there? Original engine? What are they asking for it? I'm sure I would never be able to afford it. :o |
It looks like it’s all original and a nice car when parked.
|
I’m unsure of the exact value but if it’s in presentable survivor condition and #’s matching I’d imagine you’re looking at six figure money. It’s one of only 10 4 speeds built.
That’s one hell of a find buddy! |

Here is a similar car for sale, but there is no price listed in the ad. You might want to call them and see what they want for it even though it's an automatic. I called a couple of years ago and they wanted 99K for it, but maybe they want more now.

It looks like that one, but it’s no where near drivable. It is a 4 speed though, which has to add to the value. It will probably take 60,000 to buy it.

Somewhere there is a breakdown for all colors on 73 SD Formula's And it might list their transmission within the color break also. Its a Holy Grail type car in any collection of any collector , being a 4spd. The only one I can recall ever being openly available to the public was in the early 90's. A couple or few have changed hands privately. |
X in the VIN
ZD block code LS2 in raised cast numerals on Intake manifold - quick reference points |
It sounds way worth that. Desirable color. Beyond rare 4 speed. No rust. Dream car. Sounds like one between buy and money put in, there still will be some equity over cost.
Interior: Black? Custom? Console? curious. |
4 Florentine Red 4 speed SD Formulas.
(3 Florentine Red TH400 SD Formulas) 33 total SD Formulas in 1973. |
Red interior, console.

My 74 SD Formula came out of the Easley SC area. I bought it back in the mid-80s.

We would all love to have that car, hope you can get it. |
I guess they’re still out there. That’s one I’d love to own.

I believe its ZJ not ZD code for a 73 sd 4 speed block. Mahoney has one that Tiemann restored with poverty caps.

This one...

Yes sir, that would be the one. He wanted to race me against my stock 4 speed sd ta, title for title. I think your bro (Dan) had done that motor for him and I knew way better. Thus no racing with Rick that day ;)
|
Thanks for correcting the Block Code I posted.
Did / Does - Mahoney also own the Admirality Blue / White Std Interior 73 SD 4spd Formula ? Someone posted pics of it after restored several years ago, and I thought they said it belonged to him. |
I’ve made several offers and the price goes up each time. He now wants 100,000. Its like I’m bidding against myself. He says I’ll take 60,000, I say ok, then he says 75,000. I don’t even know if the engine can be rebuilt. The timing cover is so oxidized the timing chain can be seen through it.

It’s not his car. He’s selling it for the wife of a man who has dementia. He’s actually a friend.

If it’s all there it’s worth 100,000

I do not envy your position in this, but I hope it works out in your favor. |

With so many questions regarding the engine I wouldn't be so quick to agree to his ever-increasing prices. |
He's trying to find your "walk away" point. Basically, he knows what the car is and he wants to find a guy with a big bank account who wants it no matter what (and that guy is out there somewhere). If you go to 100k, then he'll raise it to 120k, etc, etc. Unless you're willing to keep going up 'cause you really want it no matter what, I'd walk away. I agree that if it's all there it probably is worth 100k. But obviously, it is a "holy grail" car as has been said. So, If you can afford it, and you really do want it (who wouldn't) then it's worth it.

Wife has power of attorney? That could cause some issues if he isn't of sound mind And signing over anything. Could be the " friend" gets to " keep anything you can get over xx dollars" If you can see the timing chain, The body / frame can't be that good. Guessing on value of unknown is a crap shoot.. Unseen at 100k? I see a rebody...... my 2 cents |
I have seen cooling systems that were never maintained do major damage to the thermostat housing, and do a lot of damage to the front cover, but never eat through it to see the chain..

I will repeat essentially what has said before;
Wow, I guess there are still cars out there to find. Cool find. Hopefully the guys friend stops jerking you around on the price. |
I would lock up at the 60k and show him the cash ... I'd also demand a "signed" certificate title...
BTW... I'd give my left... well you know.... for mine to be a 4 speed... |
Did I miss a link to some pics ?
|
No but we need them

This is all I have. The car is packed tight in a garage.
|
By the pic it looks like he knows what these cars are worth, He's probably thinking around six figures or close to it, if All is there as far as #matching SD car.
|
:oogle: ... drool
|
He can pretty much name his price considering the pedigree.
They are most certainly still out there! LOL |
Wow, I need a cigarette. That car doesn't look like it would have a rotted through front cover, but I guess you never know. If I had that car I wouldn't let it go for less than 100k rotted cover or not. 1 of 10? Come on...
|
[QUOTE=jhein;6310566]Wow, I need a cigarette. LOL, me too and I don't smoke. What an unreal find, hope it works out!!
|
Wonder what else is in that garage? Looks like she has tight lines and clean exterior. Custom or deluxe interior too. Nice!
