Best bushed solid roller lifter ?
I was wondering your experiences with bushed roller lifters. I know they are not for very high spring pressures and I will not be running them in this engine.
I would imagine Jessel makes the best, if they even make a bushed lifter. But they are very expensive and not needed here. So is it Isky Red Zone ? Crower ? Other brand ? Who makes the best one for the money ? No offset, std bore. Thanks for any input on this. |

"Just a note on the EZ roll bushing lifter and longevity; the bronze bushing lifter is not really made for "street" longevity. They are very sensitive to oil contamination and they will wear. They were really designed to withstand extreme rpm and extreme spring pressure in an endurance app, but they are a maintenance item, not a drop in and forget item. If you run a bushed lifter wheel you better make darn sure you have plenty of oil going to them

We had very good luck with Crower bushed lifters in .903 and .937 configuration. Very high spring pressures, 450-480 lbs. closed, just over 1000 lbs open. No failures of roller, bushing, or body.

A lot of the Dragweek guys are now running the Bam lifters.

I use the BAM DLC's . There a real good lifter. They measure dead on ..
I know a vendor that gives really good prices on them .. I found him on Yellow bullet .. BAM doesn't sell to the public . |

I bought a set of BAM bushed lifters from Kelvin Poe a few years ago now. He ran them for 1 dragweek season from memory and I put them into my street car. No restrictors in the lifter bores or restricted pushrods. Haven't checked the valves in a few years now but everything is still quiet as a mouse so no reason to assume anything has moved. 260lbs on the seat. 580lbs open. After my surgery I might bust off the valve covers and throw some feeler gauges on the valve stems, but it's not a priority to be honest with the way it's running.

Isky red zone, Crower enduremax, and BAM all are good choices. Like dealing with Brad. He will do specials on request. Just got some .903 +.005" with .180" intake offset for SBM.

It looks like DLC stands for"'diamond like coating". Some sort of carbon coating. A lot of the name manufacturers are making lifters using it now.

Crower # 66494X903E-16 The Crower lifter were using are HIPPO oiling They also incorporate a .010 groove on the side for oiling from the oil band to the oil supply hole for the pushrod. It's just for additional oiling all through the lift range. The hole for the bearing or bushed wheel is feed from inside the oil band. They are cross drilled and one side is plugged. This definitely has to be check if cross drilled on new lifters. The side facing the lifter bore is plugged during manufacturing. Thank you Mike for pointing this out. From what I understand these lifters are edge oil oiling and is based on clearances in the lifter bores or in my case the installed bushing. We don't run any Restrictors in block or pushrods. So far so good. |

BAM has 2 bushing options, Bronze and Solid Steel DLC. Brad mentioned that there are multiple dragweek guys running the Solid Steel.

Took over 10 minutes of priming and slowly turning the engine over to get oil everywhere I wanted. I figure I need to restrict oil to the top end at least some and the HP heads have good drain back. |

I primed the engine with the lifters removed and there is lots of oil comes through those holes in the bushings. May I ask what oil pressure your running? Thanks |
20/50 oil at .003 3in main clearance and .0025 rods seems to net around 35 psi hot idle and 75 ish psi at 6500 with a 80 psi pump. I used a .070 shim on the blower engine and nitro 50w oil. That engine was started at the burn out area and did not build much oil temp. 100 psi was common.

Thanks for posting Chief. I just was looking at my build and here is a bit of info. It's a 505 cu in. The hole in the lifter bore bushings is .081 We have 65 to 68 psi at start up. drops to around 35 when hot. Running a 160 deg thermostat. Bearings are at .0035 on 3" mains. Rods are at .0025. Were running Amsoil 20w-50. I'm running a 60 lb oil pump with a few mods to it.
I have been wondering if we should change to an 80 lb pump? |
WE did pre production testing for Isky on the bushed lifters,We have them running with 400#plus seat pressure,1200# plus open pressure at 1.00inch plus net lift some at 1.100..They were the first to introduce this style .They did a lot of Spintron hours on test pieces.Isky is our first choice ,

OK so I’m glad I came across the thread I’m sure I would’ve found the oil feed hole is just a little too small. .I have the crower EZ roll max bushed red zone series roller lifters going into a new build they are .904 sizing my aluminum block has been nicely bushed but the oil feed hole is only .021. Has anyone ever had to open the hole up with the bushing already installed? I am very doubtful I will be able to do installed but was wondering if has anyone tried it. Thank you for any input you guys may have for me.

I don't have any suggestions, but my thinking is that is way too small as well. Guys have mentioned .100 and I know mine are .081 as it's on the build sheet. I flowed mine with the priming tool on distributor with the lifters out and there was plenty oil moving inside the bushings. I wish I would have taken a video. You would almost need a dental drill that would fit in the lifter bore. Need something like this.
