Jeff,I had a scammer last week from a ad I had on this site but got a email from him.Asked where he saw the ad and wanted pics and he disappeared.Tom

This person lax whatever is pulling some scam with me right now.Says he has parts wants address.No pics or anything. He needs to go.

I also had a contact with jeff1000, he sent me pictures of a hood latch listed on ebay, I guess the o ly way to buy parts is from ebay or local.

Jeff1000 is banned.

I had a issue with derbykaren400 last week, they answered a wanted ad I had and asked to contact them thru g mail which I did. I asked for pics of the item which they sent. Something just wasn't right so I asked for a pic of the item with a dollar bill next to it and that created a whole sh-- load of problems. So beware of them.

I would never do business with a junior member that has zero posts and joined up yesterday !

That person was banned shortly after they joined the site, I checked their IP address and they were in Lagos, Nigeria.

A tip: for whatever reason, scammers from overseas often use screen names that are made up of two unusual names plus a number (like derbykaren400) so if you see that sort of thing it's usually a good clue.

Doing business with established PY members only would be the safest bet.

Any new members without any posts are highly suspect. No matter how badly you might need something they’re offering just resist the temptation, it’s just not worth the risk.

9 of my 21 years overseas was in Nigeria. I used to like getting the scams about the dead ambassador, etc leaving money, and after a bit of back and forth emails, I’d take a picture of something local and tell them I could be there in about 10 minutes, It would usually end the emails for a while.

Don't trust Kurt parker on here as trynsave. Misrepresented a radio I bought. I sent it back at my expense. Was told by him that he would refund me. Researching him online showed other people having the same issue with him

I had some issues with him as well, but never lost any money.

Make it 50 posts till you can sell things.
Make it so New members can’t see the classifieds till they have been around for a while.

Seriously. I'm amazed that anyone keeps getting fooled by these scams.

That's sounds like a great idea. At least we would get a feel for the type of person it is.

I'd make it 100 posts before they are allowed so sell anything. That way you get a better feel if they're legit or not. Same number to even see the Classifieds.

To Kurt’s credit, I advertised here for some power seat parts. Kurt responded quickly, sent us pictures, he shipped promptly to Australia. Parts were exactly correct and as described.

He can’t be all bad.

I wouldn’t even do business w someone who had less than 25 posts and they better be of substance. These scammers are getting smarter and smarter crack heads can always find a way to get crack money.

Would be nice to require a post count before selling but I’ve also snagged some good parts from new members on other sites before. I just made sure I knew someone close by that could go there there was a guy on here recently that had a RAII block in California spoke w him a few times seemed pretty legit but I didn’t end up jumping because I didn’t have anyone nearby. May have missed out a great deal but I’d rather have my $$$

I think common sense, sometimes fails when some see the magical "I have this part" response and clearly overlook the obvious red flags.

Post throttling / scams
 

Am of the impression "junior members" have their post count throttled, anyway. Have been on this site for five years, but notice most posts go unrecorded. Meaning the post one just made, doesn't register under one's user name. It seems harder and harder, for an honest seller to move stuff, anymore. Has everything moved to the fb marketplace??

Posts in the lobby don't count towards your post count, if that's what you're seeing.

Nope have hardly ever posted in this section. It appears to be all across the website.

Posts in the classified forums don’t add to your post count either.

Your post count is low because your main mission here is selling parts.

Posts in the tech forums are what will boost your count.

How do we report a scammer?
 

I received a PM from a new member (Benson44) that says:

Have you checked with Williams, You can confirm from him, his contact is (408) 713-9568 he has it available. I purchased items from him in the past and they arrived in top condition.

Obviously a scam, how do we tag these people to weed them out?

Contact a moderator.

Everyone should just be cautious, don’t fall for obvious scams.

Quite honestly there’s not much we can do other than ban them, it’s up to the members to not be trusting of everyone who offers up something they need. Someone completely anonymous who you don’t know and will steal your money in a flash.

I googled that ph# and scam alerts popped up everywhere with it.

I posted a wanted ad in the parts section and just received a pm message telling me to contact a certain individual at a phone number. No other info was left. The person sending me the pm had just joined today and had no info at all in his public profile. I googled the phone number and it came up several times as that of a scammer. Be on the lookout!!!!
