421 Repo Bathtub intakes
 

Guys,for those that missed the first batch of intakes,John will have a fresh shipments of intakes to machine next week.It will take about 4 weeks to machine and ship.John ships according to when checks get to him.Not sure what his plan will be for e future as he has to order 20 intakes and 30 tops at a time.I believe there are 3 spoken for at this time.Contact myself or John if you need any info.Tom

Neither Tom nor John asked me for this tribute but IMHO these intakes are the nicest of them all. I've owned or handled them all (restoring them for people) and these repops are made up from the nicest castings, the machining is top shelf, and the internal design is superior to the originals. I am not the expert on bathtubs Dimitry Toth is, but as said IMHO these are the bathtub to have if a person desires a PMD bathtub intake. Just saying.

Is a dual Spreadbore possible? :)

John received late style castings yesterday and will be on the CNC this weekend.So you can have one in a few weeks!Tom

We have had a few days of nice weather here in Ohio. I have now put about 150 miles on the late style intake. This is my first 2X4 set-up for mostly street use. Like Tom has said numerous times in the forum, this intake has excellent street manners and driveability. After really dialing the carburetors in, I agree. It just runs great. I have a pretty healthy solid lifter cam. 251-259 duration @ .050 on a 112 LSA. But it idles steady and true at 900 RPM's with 12.5 " of vacuum. I have it set at 1000 RPM at 13" of vacuum. Excellent off idle transition to the main metering circuit, smooth acceleration and cruise at any speed and load. 4th gear moderate acceleration from 1500 RPM, smooth. Overall, just a much better driving intake than you might expect from a tunnel ram.

Hood scoop required on a Catalina or GP unless not running an air cleaner. If you run NO carb spacers at all and just the Ram Air IV screens over the carbs, they will just sneak under a flat hood.

Late style intakes are avil.Early I believe also.Tom

I don't have any pics on this computer of the engine in the car, unfortunately. I have some build pics and a few on the engine dyno. I will try to get some better ones on soon.

Actually it is the intake we 3D scanned to make the "new" intakes!Only real diff is the change number.It is on a set of 96 heads.It was a early style and Jim Robertson made the conversion and the magic computer work was done by Jon Schmit and John Cogger 3D scanned it and Jon did the solid works to make the patterns.This I guess you can call the "Mule".Tom

I noticed the division lines on the runners which I was surprised didn’t end up on the new castings. I must admit, I was very impressed when I got mine!

I think Jon took some liberties as he has done a lot of castings and might have made those changes to make the molds more EZ to make and pour?Tom

Who makes the air "strainers"?

Tom, do you know if your intake would be legal in the FAST class racing series? Seems a lightweight Tempest would be a nice combo to build.

I doubt it,they were never a installed intake on a car.Only OTC.Tom
