When I was about 12 years old the mother of one of my friends drove a Scout, back in the early ‘70s.

Wondering if those have anything like the following that the early Broncos have.

I could see a Pontiac powering that!

Anything left of the body? Those things loved to rust.

An old coworker of mine had and early ‘60s Scout and had a Jeep frame and drivetrain swapped in under it. Had the interior brushed up but left the outside looking weathered as found.

I had a friend that had a Scout II with the 345 V8 .. thing was a beast, like a piece of construction equipment.

The four cylinder is a lot like the Pontiac, half a V8. Restored there in the same range as the Bronco's. 70- 80 k. Needs rocker panels and I'm not sure what else. Haven't picked it up yet.

Love Scouts! I tried to buy one and the deal fell through. Shook hands on the deal then he backed out! One of my good friends has owned one for 30 plus years. It's his property vehicle. Has 44's on it. Powered by a four cylinder. The thing will go anywhere! Good luck!

I see you are in Brainerd. A friend from years back had one up there. I will see if that might be around if you may need parts. Pretty sure it was a 61-62. Who knows, maybe that was his.

It was only driven around my son inlaws hunting property. So shouldn't have a lot of miles. Its been sitting since the 90's but not lock up. Son inlaw is going to take more detailed pic's. I'll post them when get them.

I'm pretty sure they are POSI front and rear, great plow trucks.

I plowed a lot of snow with a 62 Scout back in the day, they were great work horses.

My wifes dad was service manager for Skarlids
International Harvester here in Brainerd for 20 years. He drove nothing but Scouts.

I remember when I was young the local IH dealer tried to sell my dad one.

The good thing is, IH Scout, and Jeep, shared a lot of driveline components, so at least the running gear has a lot of interchangeability. It doesn't have to come from a Scout if you need running gear many times.

Springfield OH was the site for many of the IH plants, so there is a few businesses around here that specialize in IH, and Scout parts. The Scouts were built in nearby plant in Fort Wayne Ind.

They also have a IH show at the fair grounds once a year in Springfield OH that includes all the on road vehicles that IH made. While it's going on you'll see a lot of very rare IH vehicles on the road attending the show.

The engine is as has already been said, a slant 4, that is half of a 304 V8, 152 Cu in, @ 93 HP.

There is still a Navistar/International plant here that builds medium duty trucks for Navistar, and recently they have started building medium duty trucks for chevy also.

My father-in-laws rusted in places you'd never think would rust! Bought it new and within a year it had rust thru on the front fenders. (Ohio salt did it no favors)

That's got character! Nice find.

My dad was an oil & gas exploration scout (yes, that was the title). His job was keeping track of other companies' exploration (testing, drilling, seismic surveys) so he drove wherever they happened to be when I was a kid in the sixties. It was often rough going. He would check out a vehicle from the "pool" and I remember he was happy when he could get a Scout.

Where was Skarlids? Dont remember that one.
Also there is one sitting out at Kols. Not sure of the year or what shape it is in but been there like forever.

Skarlids was before Northstar Plating on the end of the down town part of Laurel street. I'll have to check out Kohls, I know Kelly.

My dad had one that looked exactly like that when I was a kid. Forgot all about that thing.

I will have to quiz my dad. I grew up a mile south of the dirt track and would have drove by that every day.

It closed late 60's, it was North Star plating in the 70's. Are you still in Brainerd?

Very cool. Went deer hunting about 15 years ago with a friend who had a '62 with a 289 Ford in it. When my '83 Hi Lux wouldn't go any further in the snow, his old Scout kept going like a champ. These little rigs really do well off road. Perfect size and geared low. Good luck with the project.

Live in Little Falls. Work 10 miles south off County Rd 2.
Guess late 60's means I was under 4 yrs old. May explain why I dont remember them.

Cool Scout! Never owned one, but have wanted one for a while.

I'm currently wrenching on a '69 Bronco barn find project; similar vibe.

A friend of mine just restored one of those an then turned around and traded it to a Ford salesman for a brand new F150. straight up. All of these are bring big bucks.
