Old school radiator shop master list.

Good old-fashioned radiator shops are getting hard to find. So I decided we need a Master List of the remaining ones to help keep them in business.
Please post any you have used or know of.

Here's my local one for the Portland and Vancouver area. Two thumbs up for
Wilson Radiator since 1946.

https://www.wilsonradiator.com/

They built the radiator in my Burban, two 67-72 C10 heater cores, a 51 GMC heater core and a heater core for a 52 F1 all for me. We have also used them for at least 20 years at work.

Here's another one near Portland. Hart Radiator in Kelso. Family business, been around for 50 years. https://hartradiator.com/

Razzi radiator In Philadelphia PA did one for me that came out really well. Correct core for my bird.

There’s also Bristol radiator Bristol Ct. 06010. Id have used them for the bird radiator but the core was already in PA in stock when they were very hard to find.

There’s a place in LI I spoke with that seemed good too but don’t have the name right now I’ll see if I can find it again.

In the past few years I’ve used Jantz in Kenosha Wi and Driveline in Dubuque Iowa. Both did excellent work. Driveline did a recore of my original ‘71 GTO radiator, but also fixes them.

Ace Radiator in San Diego.
Shop has been around since 1921.
Located a block from the bridge in Barrio Logan.

I've had three radiators and heater core recored there.
Quality work, American parts.

They are out there and you can find them in the old school yellow pages for us old guys. Stans in Lake Stevens, WA.

Note to others - it will be more useful for the purposes of this discussion to list radiator shops that are still in business, rather than ones that aren't around anymore.

It used to be you could just look in the Yellow Pages to find them but that doesn't exist for most locations anymore. You may have luck by doing a web search on 'radiator repair near me' but you'll have to sort through the results.

A couple in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area:

Borgen Radiator Company
312 Johnson St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413

Tom's Radiator Repair
316 W Main St Suite D, Anoka, MN 55303

I'm not sure if this place repairs old radiators or just sells new ones

lol even mods get double posts.

Used Wilson Radiators many years even had them recore a all brass heater core
for my old 1985 colt as I could not find a new on anywhere locally .
Excellent work.

Stan's is a small shop in Lake Stevens WA, about 30 miles north of Seattle, a few miles from me. I have used them several times over the years and will continue to do so. They don't have a website and the only advertising I know of is a homemade sign along hwy 9. There is always a row of radiators leaning along the wall waiting to be picked up which reflects their reputation and word of mouth advertising.

I missed Drag Star Le Mans input

I think this is one reason these kinds of places can be hard to find - they tend to be old school, run by guys who aren't Internet savvy.

Their sign says "Great place to take a leak".

In business for 54 years. Run by family.

They have repaired and cleaned two radiators and heater cores for me in the last few years. Great work and customer service.

Advanced Radiator, West Burlington IA. Decades of great service.

On related challenges to us all, starter alternator shops are rare today. My go to is Harvey Brothers, Galesburg IL.

Walked in with a Motorola made in France that was on a French built John Deere diesel. They walked me out to a 71 year old, one glance he knows it, identifies the post I needed for my two wire connection, throws it on ancient 1950s tester and it passes. I'm in and out 2 minutes tops. Not a single shop or internet could help me, I had wasted hours. Owners are likewise upper 70s or 80s. Remind me of the core in this hobby. "you can pry (My Pontiac) from my C.D. F."

An easy process to fix most leaks. A tough process to re-core at home.

Luckily my Harrison Brass and Heater core were excellent originals.

Norcini's Radiator Shop (was). Now there is a Norcini's Autobody Shop in King of Prussia, and elsewhere.

3 years ago they re cored my 1971 GTO heater core in less than 24 hours with an NOS core they had in stock in the basement. They have done all of my radiator and heater core work since 1971.

Not sure if this would be close enough to you ... but I used these guys to recore my 68 GTO radiator.

https://northcountryautoradiator.com/

The result was nice, but I cannot give an opinion on their work, because like many radiator shops they just sent out my radiator to a re-coring facility somewhere. A lot of shops that offer recoring are not doing it themselves, they send it out to a facility that does mass, industrial re-coring.

Last shop in our town where you could go watch them actually do the work closed 20 years ago.

I've had several radiators repaired and even a gas tank out of Ben's 1967 Pontiac station wagon done here. One of the radiators was out of a Bobcat about 10 years ago which at the time was over $600. for a new one.

Thanks everybody for all the great information posted. You may never know who you have helped down the road. So sit back and have a cold one and toast yourself for a job well done.

I hope I don't get into trouble now. I started a twin to this thread on the 67-72chevytrucks.com forum. I will post a link to that thread so anyone looking for a radiator shop will have a larger database to locate a shop.

In the New York region (not upstate, but on the Island) there is Cap-A-Radiator:

https://www.caparadiator.com

They did my Harrison radiator in my '63, and I'm planning on a stop there tomorrow with the radiator and heater core from one of my '56 Safaris. I'll post back with my current experience.

VCho455 02-05-2024 10:08 AM

As I have previously posted I have this same thread running on the 67-72 truck forum. I have complied a list of all the radiator shops and a moderator has opened up the first post of the thread and posted them for easy reference.

I don't know if that is possible on this forum or not but, if it is I can forward the list to whomever can make it happen.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

A correction, then, to my previous post. Cap-A Radiator in Farmingdale, NY was acquired in 2023 by Acme Radiator in Islip Terrace, NY:

https://acmeradiator.net

49 Carleton Avenue
Islip Terrace, New York 11752

631-581-9199

I just dropped my '56 Safari radiator there on Monday to be re-cored, and they tested my heater core for me (which, amazingly, was good).

Hopefully, this will make its way into the "next" update to the master list. ;-)

Fingers is very good. They recored 1 radiator, boiled out a gas tank, welded a drain bung in another one, did a couple other small things for me over the years. I think they've been in business since like 1922.
