Strange Flower in the Yard
Anyone know what this strange flower is that popped up in my yard?
No leaves, no plant, just the stem with flowers on top. Pictured is what appears to be a mature one, and a new sprout. Mature flower is about 18" tall in total. https://i.imgur.com/InStivX.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uWIgVaO.jpg |
Well, spent some time looking around ... appears to be a ..

Those are beauties!

We learned a couple years ago - many lilies are poisonous for cats. Ours made it through - but the vet still calls her “our lily survivor “.
Just in case you’re a cat person… |
Resurrection Lily , sometimes called a naked lady. They put ou the bloom stalk first, then the leaves grow. They will multiply. I have them in my yard, but ours bloom in the spring.

My wife calls them naked ladies as well. We have an abundance of them and the blooms hold up for a long time when put in a vase.

More of these popped up in front yard now.

The only way I'd have naked ladies appearing in my yard is if I won the lottery.
You guys must be doing something right |
Looks very similar to Stargazer Lilly’s. They are a rabbit delicacy around here, very frustrating when they are about to bloom and get chewed off at the base .

We had a bunch more come up in the same location this week. Lots of rabbits in the yard, they seem to be leaving these alone.

Very nice Lillies. I don't think we have them here in Delaware. I've not seen any in the garden centers and there are none in the garden I work in. I've got to find some so I can keep the deer out of the garden. They've eaten all of the Hosta leaves they can get to and other stuff they usually don't eat.
"Lilly Oh Lilly"... remember that song? |

The spider lilies are blooming in N Louisiana now too. When we lived in S Louisiana, these were called hurricane lilies because they bloomed around peak hurricane season.

I just saw these today here in SC growing out in nowhere land.

I have the red spiders coming up in my yard too. I never planted any so I can only guess where they came from.

There are bulbs in the ground. They come up every year.
